The Higher School Cer ficate examina ons start this week and I wish all our year 12 students the best for both the exams and the future. This term also signifies a right of passage for our Year 11 cohort who effec vely start Year 12 in Term 4. I am now calling them Year 12 and have raised my expecta ons of them in terms of behaviour and work ethic. I have set them the challenge to step up and be the school leaders. They have already accepted this challenge and have cleaned and reorganised the senior room, their teachers are repor ng improved focus on studies and I have no ced them taking a more ac ve role in the playground with younger students. Well done Year 12, con nue to make us proud. Strategic plan 2018‐2022 The NSW Department of Educa on released the five year Strategic Plan with the vision ‘To be Australia’s best educa on system and one of the best in the world’. The plan includes 10 goals. Each fortnight I have been discussing one of the goals and how it related to Bowraville Central School. This week I will unpack with Goal 5 ‘All young people have a strong founda on in literacy and numeracy; deep content knowledge; and confidence in their ability to learn, adapt and be responsible ci zens.’ I am pleased to announce that we have just appointed a new teacher to Bowraville Central School for 2019 who will be teaching mathematics in Stage 4 and 5 as well as driving numeracy across K‐10. He comes with a wealth of experience in raising the bar including working with Gifted and Talented students. I will do a future article on our three new appointments in 2019 in a future newsletter. In terms of Literacy we will continue the support of our Early action for Success Instructional Leader, Lee Luck, in 2019 as well as a new initiative focussing on writing being led by Kerry Kete across the school. 2018 saw the first steps in growth in Naplan in recent years, we want to build on this growth and push towards state averages in 2019 and beyond. We will also continue to provide opportunities for our students to learn the lessons they need to be successful and active members of society. Combined Schools Fete The Bowraville Central School P&C are busy organising the inaugural Combined Schools Fete to be held at Bowraville Central School on the evening of 15 December culmina ng in Carols by Candlelight and the religh ng of the Christmas tree. I have set the challenge to relight the tree without having to climb it using lasers and lights projected from the ground. The students in both primary and secondary Makerspace are currently working on this. I spoke to Warren Neithe, Principal of St Mary’s Bowraville and his students are very excited about singing carols and se ng up a stall on the evening. It is a posi ve move forward working in collabora on. Hope to see you all there on the night, I am sure there will be lots of Christmas stocking fillers available at the stalls as well as bouncy castles and a visit from Santa. Best Regards, Dave Taylor

2018 Na onal Red Poll Youth Camp
The 2018 Na onal Red Poll Youth Camp was held during the school holidays at the Glen Innes Showgrounds. Thirty Eight a endees aged 8 to 25 travelled from NSW and QLD, with towns such as Bellingen, Bowraville, Armidale, Inverell, Brisbane and of course Glen Innes represented.
The a endees were instructed on a range of topics ranging from parading, public speaking, clipping, heard management and nutri on, as well as junior judging. Students were also lucky enough to do a tour of Ranger Valley Feedlot which houses over 30,000 Angus and Wagyu ca le.
The students enjoyed making new friends, playing
nightly games and learning from experts throughout
the days. On the final day of the Camp students
prepped and showed their cows using all the skills and
knowledge that they had learnt throughout the camp.
Bella Hinton placed third in her age group and Jessyka
Cameron was awarded “Most Improved Overall” at the
show.
I was so proud to accompany these students to the Red Poll Camp, each and every one of them stepped outside their comfort zone and they all did themselves and Bowraville Central School proud. None of these students have ever done public speaking before and they all got up in front of a large crowd and gave very convincing arguments in the junior judging category of the show. I can’t wait to see Bowraville Central school Ca le Team become bigger and more compe ve next year. Lori Wilson

CANTEEN CLOSURE
The School Canteen will be closed this Thursday and Friday due to
urgent building repairs.
Apologies for any inconvenience.
RINGWORM Ringworm has nothing to do with worms of any kind. Ringworm is a common fungal infec on caused by fungi called dermatophytes that live on the skin. Ringworm can appear on the skin or scalp. Ringworm takes it’s name from the red scaly patch or bump which over me forms a ring or series of rings on the skin. It can be passed on through person to person contact as well as contact with infected animals, usually pets or farm animals. If you child has a ringworm, it must be covered to prevent it spreading to other people. Your child may return to school once treatment has commenced.
Wheelchair Basketball
During Year 7/8 Sport in the last week of Term 3, Bowraville was lucky enough get a visit from Jason and Robbie from Ability Links, NSW. They gave the students a chance to try a set of basketball wheelchairs. The students couldn’t wait to get in the chairs and had an amazing me throughout the session. They learnt skills in how to use the chairs and played wheelchair basketball against one another. It was such a great experience for everyone.
We were extremely lucky that Jason and Robbie offered to come back this term in week 2 to give the 9/10 Sport students a go at the chairs. A big thankyou to Jason, Robbie and Ability Links NSW who took the me to come in and allow the use of the wheelchairs free of charge for our Bowraville students. It was awesome!
