President’s Message

Another summer has come and gone and soon we will be preparing for another holiday season. It is a busy time for everyone. Schools are back in session and people are once again forced to deal with all of the realities of life including the financial ones. The financial world continues to present us with mixed messages about the country’s economic future. While corporate America appears strong and stock values are completely recovered from the recent recession, we have witnessed the failure of a major city (Detroit) and we watch as their public servants and retirees fight to preserve hard earned benefits. It is yet another shot across the bow of municipal employees and unfortunately it will not be the last. Many state and local governments, as well as our Federal government are struggling against the weight of their debt service.

What is the message for members of our credit union? I think that it is one of vigilance and involvement. Take the time to understand the political process and work with your leadership to support candidates and policies that are both favorable and designed with long term common sense.

The second message is one of personal financial responsibility. The beginning of the school year is a great opportunity to look carefully at your own situation including debts, savings accounts and retirement planning. As you do so, realize that it is our goal to be your financial partner and to help you with the process. The products and services at BFCU are designed to be simple and honest and offer valuable tools to assist with your financial planning. Refinancing personal loans, credit cards, auto loans or even mortgages may be the answer to the restart you need to improve your financial situation.

Christmas Club Disbursement Changing to Early November

8:30a.m. to 12:30p.m.

Starting this year, Christmas Club disbursements will be made at the beginning of November instead of October. BFCU, of course, will make exceptions for members who were counting on the Christmas Club funds to begin their holiday shopping at the beginning of October. If that is the case and you would like the earlier disbursement, call us and we’ll make arrangements to make your money available anytime after September.
