Each year about this time, I always reflect about what hashappened over the last year. Even though I have been inthis position for many years, I am still amazed of how manylives have been touched and assisted through this work.
This generation wants the truth, without sugar coating. Theylive a life where there are few boundaries and fewer truthson which they can rely. That is why the overwhelmingmajority of our clients tell us that they wouldrecommend us to friends, and that we providetruth in love and support beyond what they couldhave imagined.
Once here, our client is welcomed, loved, andmost of all assured that there is hope for both sheand her child. Offering assistance free of chargethroughout the entire pregnancy, she will beprepared to be a better mother through theeducation and support we provide. She will havean opportunity to learn more about adoption if she chooses. Our trained counselors and nurses will have her fullyequipped to parent with one-on-one teaching in nutrition, prenatal care, parenting skills, breastfeeding education, childbirth and delivery instruction, etc. She is encouragedto make life affirming decisions regarding her relationshipsand that of her baby. This is in addition to the materialassistance that our faithful supporters, makepossible.
What better way to invest in your community than byhelping young mothers prepare for birth, havinghealthier babies, and move their lives forward in apositive direction with new skills and making lifeaffirming choices.
Additionally, money donated to the WRC has a hugereturn on investment because of so much community
support and use of volunteer time and gifts. This allows our organization to stretch yourfinancial investment and provide services thatexceed the value of the actual moneycontributed.
In this edition, we are pleased to share withyou about the wonderful physicians withwhom we work in serving our clients. We arefortunate in this community to have thesedoctors.
Our gala was a huge success again this year. Over 500of our friends attended and enjoyed our delightfulguest, Blythe Newsome, and the delicious dinner.

Touching One Life At A Time
Becky
The evening of September 23 was a very special and wonderful time. Each year we host our annual fundraising event“Celebration of Life” to secure the resources for operations and provision of services for the coming year.
More than 500 of our friends in the community turned out to meet our special guest, Blythe Newsome who wasdelightful, witty, and inspiring in every way. Blythe shared how as a young woman in college, she too faced anunplanned pregnancy. She turned to a pregnancy support center in Tallahassee, Florida for support and help, andrelated how important a center like the WRC is to a community. Her message of hope and inspiration showed howanyone facing obstacles can overcome, particularly, when embraced with support and encouragement. She and her sixchildren were selected by the ABC television network as one of the 10 most outstanding families of 2010.
As always, the dinner catered by Lasyone’s was wonderful and the decor outstanding. We introduced our new cookbook“Serving From the Heart” and copies are now available for Christmas.
Our deepest appreciation to all who made this event possible, especially the sponsors listed below. Thank youour faithful friends for sharing your resources to enable us to continue this life affirming work.
Thank You! The Board of Directors and Staff extend our sincere gratitude to all of thesponsors, guests and volunteers who are responsible for making this the mostsuccessful Celebration of Life gala ever.

Part of the work of the Women’s Resource Center involvesreaching our young people in the community. For the lastcouple of years, our Outreach and Training Coordinator,Beverly Broadway, along with other staff membershave taught at Natchitoches Central High School inthe Phys. Ed. classes. This instruction includessexual health and relationship education. STD’shave reached epidemic proportions in this country, and we are able to share with at risk high schoolstudents the realities of these diseases.
Recently a high school class from Ringgold, LA visited theWRC where they were instructed using our baby simulatorson the dangers of alcohol, tobacco use as well as the effects
of “shaken baby syndrome.”
If you are interested in a presentation to a class, youth group, sorority, etc., please call at 357-8888to learn more about the details.
