amintroductionThe bondura® Survey & Maintenance Program isdesigned  to optimize equipment performance, reduce downtime planned and unplanned, dramati-cally reduce maintenance costs by identifying  only components that need to be replaced, ease assem-bly and disassembly of equipment also extending equipment lifecycle with bondura® technology.

survey contentThe survey will consist of bondura®  technical staff to do an onsite survey of all drilling & hoisting equip-ment; to map out all critical connections where the customer will benefit by upgrading to the bondura® technology solution.

bondura® technology will provide certified technical staff for a bondura® upgrade onshore and offshore world wide. The survey can be carried out before the rig/vessel heads to shore for maintenance or up-grade, thus all the pins will be on site ready for installation up on arrival.

bondura® technology will provide the best intended design and high-end materials for every machine and pivot connection. bondura® technology will pro-vide detailed CAD drawings (3D models) to ensure a perfect solution, not to experience any unpleasant surprises during installation or operation.

The customer will receive GA drawings; spare parts list, assembly and maintenance procedures, com-plete DNV/ABS documentation and traceability. 3rd party inspections by any organ can be arranged if needed.

scope of work• Inspection of original drawings if available, onsite inspection of measurements, tolerances & structures• Map out and categorize all critical pin connections that will benefit customer using bondura® technology (categorized A-B & C connections)• Present  an execution plan for replacement of pins, categorized in a strict regime to best utilize the bondura® technology for the customer• Engineering bondura® solutions according to equipment design, measurements and tolerances• Plan manufacturing and installation process according to customers project schedule• Update equipment GA-Drawing & spare parts list• Provide sufficient documentation: bondura® technology Material Traceability List, DNV Type Approval Certificate, Certificate of Conformity, GA Drawings, Assembly & Maintenance procedure

statement We are very pleased with the bondura® pins and our experience with the pins is very good. We are continu-ally replacing pins with bondura® pins as this give us less maintenance and nonproduction time. Down time caused by pin failures and extensive play have been reduced to a minimum on equipment equipped with the bondura® pivot pin technology. At the end it is all about production time and lowering the cost for operation. bondura® pins is one factor that has reduced our maintenance cost.

cost benefit analysis bondura® vs standard pin solutionHTV arm installationDuring the inspection we found that the bores were worn to a minimum, some of the bores needed to be machined up 0.5 mm, then installing standard bondura® pins, only replacing the standard conical sleeves with oversized sleeves. In positions where conventional cylindrical pins were used, most bores were oval and the pins were broken, these pin connections created a lot of extra work hours in-volving: sandblasting, welding, machining and painting to get the bore back on tolerance and ready for assembly. As assembly offshore progressed everything went according to schedule (6 days). it is very important to not get unpleas-ant surprises at sea, this as the weather changes rapidly and with regards to safety its necessary that operations don`t exceed planned schedule. In regards to the total pro-ject cost, installation of bondura® pins should be an easy choice to make for any contractor. We managed to save huge expenses for our client due to the fact that there were bondura® pins installed. Here is a cost benefit analyze of this project, comparing costs between using bondura® technology and conventional pin support connection.

DDM 650 AC installationOur experience with the overhaul of the DDM 650, where bondura® pins were fitted in most pivot joints, is that the disassembly of the DDM progressed quickly and efficient, without having any additional cutting, welding, linedrilling work done. If there are no bondura® pins installed we usu-ally need a lot of additional work hours to get the pin`s out, as these connections have 3 passes where the pin`s can be stuck. In some of the connection’s on the DDM, regular cylindrical pins were used, we had to machine the pins out of their positions, due to the fact that they were ceased up in the joint. During the execution of this overhaul we also had to use more than two days in additional work just to free 2 stuck pins in the link arm connections. Using bon-dura® pins in these connections would have reduced the execution of this job to a mere few hours in comparison. There were also some bores that were slightly oval, this was however within the bondura expansion tolerances, and we could easily install new bondura® pins without having to do any line-drilling. If there had been regular cylindrical pins installed in these bores, a lot of additional work would have been needed: sandblasting, welding, machining and painting before the bore would be back on tolerance. There are also a lot of cast steel parts on a DDM 650 where it is crucial that there are no oval bores. Steel cast parts are very expensive and not an easy repair if damaged.
