Boji Stone Dinner Study
A Creative Study of Creation
Do you marvel at the beauty of the great
outdoors? Do you farm, garden, hunt, or
fish? Are you a hiker, biker, or Boy Scout?
Perhaps you’re concerned about conservation and preser-
vation of the environment. If so, then the Green Bible Trail
Guide is a Bible study you will find compelling.
On six consecutive Thursdays beginning June 2, I will lead
a study at the Boji Stone Restaurant which will focus on the
Bible’s powerful message for the natural world. The study
sessions will begin with dinner together at 6:00 p.m., fol-
lowed by discussion until 7:45 p.m. Registration is neces-
sary and limited to nine persons.
You can reserve your place for this study via my email,
[email protected], or call the church office at 646-
2580. The fee is $20 for your copy of The Green Bible.
The session themes are: And It Was Good, Finding God,
Connected to Creation, Creation Care as Justice, The Full
Impact of Sin, and The New Earth.
With over 1,000 references to the earth in the Bible, the
message is clear. All of God’s creation – nature, animals,
and humanity – are inextricably linked to one another. As
creation cares for us, we too are called to care for creation
and engage in the work of healing and sustaining the natu-
ral world.
Coming in August: “Embracing the Prophets.” Beginning
August 2, I will lead this six-week study, meeting every
Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Room 204. The study features
video segments let by Dr. Walter Brueggemann, arguably
America’s leading Old Testament scholar and theologian.
Led by Dr. Brueggemann, we’ll take a provocative journey
through the poetic prophesy of Hebrew Scripture, examin-
ing such issues as distributive justice, nonviolence, loss
and hope. Warning. This study will probably rock some
boats. But, that’s what prophets do!

Myra’s Reception
May 22nd At the staff/parish committee meeting last month, we
decided to honor Myra with a cookie and punch reception in
the CLC after the 9:00 service on May 22. In lieu of traditional
baby gifts, we are asking members of the congregation to
participate in filling a "money tree" for Myra to use for the
needs of her new baby.

Preschool Thank You The 2015-2016 school year is winding down for UMC Pre-
school. We appreciate everyone’s support through prayer,
donations, and purchasing the Hy-Vee shopping cards. We
will continue to sell the shopping cards throughout the summer
in the church office. We still have a few openings for children
in our Pre-K classrooms. If you know of someone who might
be interested, please send them our way!
Time for a New Look at an Old Dilemma
Is the glass half-empty or half-full?
Of course the answer is both and yet
more than that, if we consider other points
of view. I am sure we all remember that
the Pessimist says that the glass is half-empty, the Opti-
mist says that it is half full.
Yet other points of view might be considered, and other
ways of looking at this issue found. I am sure that there
are at least fifty other such quips in the world. They
include; The realist that might ask, “Who drank my
water?”. The spoiled brat might add, “I ordered ice, I
want my ice”! Even the engineer noted that there was
just too much glass.
For all the fun these quips are, they all do seem to miss
the most basic point. We get a part of this point from the
counselor who says that the glass can be refilled.
Even more to the point for us is the Christian that says
nothing, but gets the pitcher and refills the glass.
This idea is that we are called to follow Jesus and to
have the “Mind of Christ”. He gave up what he had and
gave himself for all of us. May we always have the
Christian point of view.
Love a lot, and serve much,
Pastor Randy
