Boiler Replacement and Plant Room Refurbishment in the Finance Sector

Antac was instructed to replace

the twenty fi ve year old gas

boilers for a leading fi nancial

services customer. The existing

installation consisted of four

separate boilers feeding into

a common hot water system,

where meeting the heating

demand was achieved through

controlling the number of boilers

operating.

The Challenge

They needed a high effi ciency

heating solution which not only

achieved savings in energy

costs, but helped meet its CSR

objectives. Additionally this

offi ce building would be fully

occupied throughout the four

week programme of works and a

temporary heating solution was

provided by Antac’s own portable

gas boiler.

The Solution

Antac selected an Alpha ARES

Tec condensing boiler as the best

heating solution. This is a fl oor

standing condensing boiler that

provides an infi nitely fl exible

solution for buildings requiring

high output heating. It is made

up of a number of self-contained

heat generating modules

forming a series of boilers linked

together within a single casing.

Each heat generating module

is self-contained, with its own

down-fi ring pre-mix gas burner,

fan, ignition and safety controls.

As system load decreases, a

built-in Boiler Cascade Manager

modulates the boiler down to

the combined minimum. As

the load continues to reduce,

individual modules are switched

off as necessary. This modular

design enables ARES Tec boilers

to optimise energy effi ciency

achieving up to 109%.

Installation

An extensive refurbishment of

the plant room was needed to

accommodate the new boiler.

All pipework, pumps and valves

were replaced and the boiler

was connected indirectly via a

plate heat exchanger to reduce

boiler contamination extending

its life. Alterations had to be

made to the roof due to the

newly installed single fl ue. Antac

integrated the boiler controls

into the existing Trend BMS and

re-commisioned the system.
