Why should we know about Body Based Sensor Network?

• Cardiovascular Disease is the main cause of death in the UK and it accounts for 39% of all death each year.

• Among patients who had heart attacks, about 30% of them died even before reaching to the hospital

• To get Rid of sudden attacks like heart attack• Late diagnostics may lead to death• To decrease number of death we need early

diagnosis.• Reduction in cost of medical assistance

Why should we know about Body Based Sensor Network?

• Provide the best suggestion whom to contact with

• It provides a unified way of controlling several sensors by a single monitor device

• To enhance the overall performance of the sports man

WHAT IS BODY BASED SENSOR NETWORK ?

Formal Definition by IEEE 802.15

“A Communication standard optimized for low power devices and operation on, in or around the human body (but not limited to humans) to serve a variety of applications including medical, consumer electronics / personal entertainment and other”

How BBSN Works?

Page 9: Body based sensor network and its applications

Types of sensors used• Motion sensor• Temperature sensor• Pulse oximeter• Accelerometer• ECG sensor

Application Areas

Page 11: Body based sensor network and its applications

• Medical Applications• Fitness Monitoring • Real time detection of diseases• ECG : Electrocardiogram• PPG : Photoplethysmogram• Body temperature• Blood pressure• Galvanic skin response (GSR)• Heart rate• It is impossible for pacemaker to communicate without

wires, we actually need wireless network hence BBSN

Application Areas

Future Applications

• The future market of WBAN is growing rapidly in the field of medical as well as in entertainment industry

• We believe than BBSN systems will allow a dramatic shift in the way people think about and manage their health

• This provide more proactive healthcare that will not only improve the quality of life, but also reduce healthcare costs.

Page 14: Body based sensor network and its applications

Challenges• Ethical issues like privacy• Limited energy resources• Lower Data rates• Communication failures• Signal and path performance• Usability• Operational issues

Page 15: Body based sensor network and its applications

Conclusions• Body Based sensor Network Provide a unique platform for the development

of health care and well being.

• Most wearable fitness products are not designed to be worn all the time, and those that are awkward, but BBSN devices are very small and wearable.

• A WBAN is expected to be a very useful technology with potential to offer a wide range of benefits to patients, medical personnel and society through continuous monitoring and early detection of possible problems.

• The current technological evolutions will bring us closer to a fully operational WBAN that acts as an enabler for improving the Quality of Life
