Weight is not everything- it all depends on theright body analyses

In the past, a person’s absolu-te weight was the determiningfactor for evaluatingone’s body. But today, weknow that it’s all about the"composition". Evolution for-med mankind as a living creature, which had to be veryactive while sustaining itselfon a sparse diet."Modern" men and women, however, do the exact opposi-te: Sparse activity and a plen-tiful diet, often a "bad” diet. The consequences are knownto all of us. Many diseases ofcivilization could be avoided ifonly we could program oursel-ves to maintain a healthy life-style.

Usually, we weigh too muchbecause we have too muchbody fat! This means: If youwant to loose weight, increaseyour muscle mass. Duringtimes when food is sparse (= diet), the human bodyreacts with an "emergencyprogram":Before using up its fat reserves, it uses muscle mass. And vice versa, when normalnutrition is resumed, it firstadds further fat reserves, which results in the much feared "yoyo" effect. With simultaneous muscleand fitness training you willbe able to balance yourweight, body fat and musclemass.

The Body Balance will be adecisive contribution to yourhealth. This electronic bodyanalysis scale features thefollowing functions:

The Body Balance will deter-mine your condition in regardto body fat and body watercontent and weight based onyour personal data and therecommendations of healthand body compositionexperts.

An individual evaluation ofthe analysis results with personal recommendationswill be performed.

Memory slots for 8 personsand automatic recognition ofpersons.

    1. Insert batteries.

Note: Immediately after inserting the bat-teries (while "0.0" is still being display-ed), place the body analysis scale on alevel surface and wait until the scalepowers down automatically. Then beginwith data entry. Otherwise, it might bepossible that the weight of the scalewould erroneously be added to the initialweighting process. The same might occurif the scale is held in the hand prior tothe weighing process.

    2. For all measurements: place scale levelon a hard surface (not carpet).

    3. Cleaning and care: clean only usingslightly damp cloth. Do not use solventsor abrasives.Never submerge scale in water.

    4. A country-specific option to switch fromkg/cm to st/in or lb/in is possible bypushing the key on the bottom of thescale.

    Teaching

It is necessary to enter perso-nal data for each correspon-ding person and to step onthe scale with bare feetimmediately after data entryto ensure correct functionalityof this body analysis scale.

    1. Place scale on a table forprogramming.

    2. Start data entry (push key for 1 second).

    3. Memory location (P1 ... P8) select (▼= minus, ▲ = plus) andconfirm ( ).

    4. Enter your height (▼= minus, ▲ = plus) andconfirm ( ).

    5. Enter your age (▼= minus, ▲ = plus) andconfirm ( ).

    6. Select sex using ▼/▲( =male, =female)

Push key andhold for 3 secondsuntil "0.0” appears onthe screen.

    7. Following this, immediatelyplace the body analysisscale on the floor, waituntil the screen displays"0.0" and then step on thescale with bare feet.

The initial measurement isindispensable and servesto store the data and toautomatically recognizepersons at a later time. Ifno person steps on thescale, data entry must berepeated. The first body analysis isperformed after a personsteps on the scale.

This scale is equipped witha Time-Out mode.It will automatically switchoff after approx. 40seconds if no keys arepressed.

    Body Analysis

For most precise results, please step on the scale whileunclothed.

    1. Step on scale. The weightand – for the duration ofthe analysis (5 to 10seconds) - a moving barindicator will be displayed. Please stand still until theanalysis is complete.

    2. After automatic recognitionof persons, the bodyweight, body fat content( ) and body water con-tent ( ) is displayedalong with the correspon-ding status bar. Therespective person’s averagerange of values is locatedin the median 3 segmentsof the bar indicator.Interpretation of measure-ment values: see page 19.

    3. Next, your personal actionrecommendations are dis-played.

Meaning of symbols:+ You should drink more

    fluids+ Muscle growth training

is recommended!+ Change of diet is

    recommended!Your analysis values are ok!

    4. Step away from the scale. After display of yourmemory slot, the scale willswitch off automatically.

In rare cases it is not possibleto automatically allocate theanalysis results. If thisoccurs, the scale will alterna-tely display the memory slotsof persons coming closest tothe analysis result. Sinceweight measurement is alrea-dy completed, you may nowstep off the scale and use thekey ”▼” (for the first memoryslot displayed) or ”▲” (for the second memory slotdisplayed) to select your indi-vidual memory slot. Following this, body weight, body fat and body water content is displayed.

In the event of a difference inbody weight of more than +/- 3 kg compared to the lastmeasurement, the user is notrecognized and data entrymust be repeated.

Please note that when step-ping on the scale while wea-ring footwear or socks, onlythe weight is being determi-ned; a body analysis is notperformed or performed incor-rectl

You will achieve continuouslyaccurate results if you alwaysstand at the same spot on thescale, if possible.

Difference compared with your individu-al standard value

This body analysis scale determines your individualideal condition in regards toweight and body fat content, based on your personal dataand recommendations byhealth experts.

It also determined your totalbody water content and mus-cle mass. Please remember that mus-cles also contain body water, which is already calculated inthe body water analysis. Therefore, the total result willalways exceed 100%.

    Individual Recommendation

    Body Weight

Whilst the body weight isshown in the display in kg,one of the 9 segments isshown in the bar below it.Here the position of the active segment indicates theassessment of the bodyweight mentioned on thebasis of the BMI figure. The BMI (Body Mass Index)is a measure for the healthrisk resulting from overweightor underweight.

On the basis of categorisationof the BMI, doctors distin-guish between "underweight”,"normal weight”, "overweight”and "obese”.

    BMI = body weight (kg)

    height (m)2

Example:Measured body fat content = 15.2 % of total weight

This value is approx. 3 % above the calculated personal normalvalue.

    Proportion of Body Fat

Whilst the proportion of bodyfat in % is shown in thedisplay, one of the 9 seg-ments appears in the barbelow it. Too much body fatis unhealthy and does notlook nice. What is moreimportant is that a high proportion of body fat is alsousually associated with a raised proportion of fat in theblood and this increases greatly the risk of various ill-nesses such as for instancediabetes, heart disease, highblood pressure etc. But a verylow proportion of body fat isequally unhealthy.Apart from the fatty tissueunder the skin, the body alsostores important fat depositsfor the protection of the inter-nal organs and to ensureimportant metabolic func-tions. If this essential fatreserve is compromised, thiscan lead to metabolic distur-bance.So for instance in womenwith body fat figures ofunder 10%, menstruationmay cease. In addition, therisk of osteoporosis increases. The normal proportion ofbody fat is dependent on ageand above all on sex. In women the normal figureis about 10% higher than inmen. With increasing age thebody loses muscle mass andso the proportion of body fatincreases.

Example:Measured body water content = 62.4 % of total weight

This value is approx. 2 % above the calculated personal normalvalue.

    Proportion of BodyWater

Whilst the proportion of waterin the body in % is shown inthe display, one of the 9 seg-ments appears in the barbelow it.

The figure shown in this ana-lysis reflects the "total bodywater” (TBW). The body of anadult is composed of about60% water. Here there is ofcourse a certain range, witholder people showing a lowerproportion of water thanyounger people and men sho-wing a higher proportion thanwomen.

The distinction between menand women is a result of thehigher mass of body fat inwomen. Since the majority ofthe body’s water is to befound in the fat-free mass(73% of the FFM is water)and since the water contentin the fat is very low by itsnature (about10% of thefatty tissue is water), the proportion of body fat auto-matically decreases with anincreasing proportion of waterin the body.

    Technical Specifications

Load capacity x graduation = max. 150 kg x 100 gDisplay resolution: Body fat content: 0.1%Body water content: 0.1%Body height: 100-250 cmAge: 10-99 years8 memory slots for individual personsLarge LCD screen Batteries requirements: 3 x 1.5 V AAABatteries included.

Analysis is based on the mea-surement of the body's elect-rical resistance. Eating anddrinking habits during thecourse of the day and indivi-dual lifestyle affect the waterbalance. This is noticeable bythe fluctuations in the dis-play.

In order to ensure that theresults of analysis are a accu-rate and consistent as possi-ble, keep the measurementconditions constant, as onlyin this way will you be able toobserve changes over anextended period.

    Other factors can affect waterbalance:

After a bath, the body fat rea-ding may be too low and thebody water reading too high.

After a meal, readings can behigher.

Women may experiencefluctuations due to the mens-trual cycle.

Due to loss of water causedby illness or after physicalactivity (sport). After takingexercise, wait for 6 to 8 hoursbefore carrying out the nextmeasurement.

Varying or implausible resultscan occur in the case of:

Persons with a high tempera-ture, symptoms of oedema orosteoporosis.

    Persons undergoing dialysistreatment.

    Persons taking cardiovascularmedicine.

    Pregnant women.

If the analysis is performedwhile wearing wet socks.
