Page 1/2 BODEGAS SANTO CRISTO CAMPO DE BORJA FACT SHEET OWNER The Santo Cristo co-operative of Ainzon PRODUCTS Campo de Borja (Tinto), Garnacha Seleccion, Santo Cristo SIZE OF THE VINEYARDS The cooperative controls 900 hectares of vineyards, but the "Santo Cristo Seleccion" is sourced from the best located and oldest vineyards. LOCATION OF THE VINEYARDS The winery is in the village of Ainzon, with vineyards running from Ainzon in the heart of the DO south to include some fantastic high altitude sites. Just over the border from Navarra, and only 50 miles from the Rioja region, climatic conditions here are very interesting, with warm Mediterranean influences in summer and cool, Atlantic influences in Winter. Rainfall is low (350 to 450mm per year), there is lots of sun, but altitudes of 350 to 700 metres mean cool, fresh conditions. SOIL Soils are stony over iron-rich red clay on a limestone bedrock. In many places, the stones are large and ressemble the famous galets of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. GRAPE VARIETIES 100% Garnacha (Grenache) AVERAGE AGE OF THE VINES Some young vines, many older vineyards (40 years and upwards) AVERAGE PRODUCTION First year (2008) production of this cuvée was 30 000 bottles. Second year production was increased to 55 000 bottles. Given the great resource of old vineyards here, further increases in production can be envisaged. VINIFICATION AND AGEING Cool fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Ageing in vat...no use of oak. Blending between tanks to achieve a complex balance of broad, rich old vine mouthweight with fresh, floral and mineral aromatics on the nose. NOTES ON THE PROPERTY This area is known for viticulture since the Middle Ages, when the land belonged to the nearby large monastery of Veruela. one of the best in Spain, with modern equipment including state-of-the-art bottling line, cool

underground cellars, skilled winemakers and a dynamic young MD. One of the reasons it runs

so well is that although they have 900 hectares of vineyards and 700 member growers, 80% of

the vineyards belong to just 30 growers, so it has been easier to get qualitative practices into

place.
