We will also be looking forward to developing a similar course but geared for ELA (English Language Arts). On Thursday, March 20, the whole training cadre (existing plus new facilitators) has been requested to attend an informational/brainstorming session. One of the new projects for the 2014-2015 school year will be a New Teacher Mentor Community. We will be discussing this at this meeting in hopes to develop additional paths for servicing new teachers. We will be working on establishing a cadre and developing a plan of action that will be the most effective route for supporting and retaining the 1800 teachers being hired. Other Plans in the Working Dr. Beesley, Director of PLP, is working in collaboration with the Pathlore department with the focus of gaining administrative license to the program. With this capability, all CCSD licensed personnel will be able to quickly see what courses we have to offer – primarily those courses that would not be offered for PDE credit. Teachers tend to surf Pathlore to see what courses are being offered. This will have the potential of opening many new possibilities for teachers. Continued work is being done with the On-Boarding department. We are excited at the potential that will also be opened to the new teachers in the district as our courses and workshops will be made available to them. New conversations are beginning to occur with the ELL Department. Additional conversations regarding next step trainings will occur once their annual assessments are complete.

Professional Development

As we move closer to the end of the first quarter of 2014, we continue to “move down the track” with I

Can Do It trainings this month. Due to popular demand, an additional training has been added for the

first of April with the ELL class. There was tremendous success with the latest Evaluation Workshop with

over 200 teachers in attendance.

We have had continuous planning for a developing class around the Math CCSS (Common Core State

Standards). Brenda Pearson has written the course and we are now working toward scheduling a

summer session in June. We are also working toward gaining university credit through Southern Utah

University and possible PDE credit through the PDE department. The pilot will help provide much

needed training for approximately 100 teachers. Based on these results, we look forward to being able

to offer this course several times next year. We will also be looking forward to developing a similar

course but geared for ELA (English Language Arts).

On Thursday, March 20, the whole training cadre (existing plus new facilitators) has been requested to

attend an informational/brainstorming session. One of the new projects for the 2014-2015 school year

will be a New Teacher Mentor Community. We will be discussing this at this meeting in hopes to

develop additional paths for servicing new teachers. We will be working on establishing a cadre and

developing a plan of action that will be the most effective route for supporting and retaining the 1800

teachers being hired.

Dr. Beesley, Director of PLP, is working in collaboration with the Pathlore department with the focus of

gaining administrative license to the program. With this capability, all CCSD licensed personnel will be

able to quickly see what courses we have to offer – primarily those courses that would not be offered

for PDE credit. Teachers tend to surf Pathlore to see what courses are being offered. This will have the

potential of opening many new possibilities for teachers.

Continued work is being done with the On-Boarding department. We are excited at the potential that

will also be opened to the new teachers in the district as our courses and workshops will be made

available to them.

New conversations are beginning to occur with the ELL Department. Additional conversations regarding

next step trainings will occur once their annual assessments are complete.

National Board

National Board Certification is the nation’s highest credential for professional

educators and CCEA is here to support you.

Why pursue this?

o CCEA members attest to the positive effects the National Board Certification process has on their classroom practices.

o A growing body of research links National Board Certification with improved student achievement. o Certification is a rigorous, challenging process that causes teachers to analyze their work. It is a powerful

learning experience, whether National Board Certification achieved. o The State of Nevada provides a 5% salary stipend to those who achieve National Board Certification. The

stipend is not subject to local collective bargaining. o The State of Nevada recognizes the process by granting six (6) credits towards recertification.

How does CCEA support this?

o CCEA provides a series of support sessions that guide candidates through each step of the challenging certification process.

o Support sessions are led by CCEA members who are themselves National Board Certified. o In partnership with Silver State Schools Credit Union, CCEA members can receive a professional

development loan to cover fees associated with this process. This loan is paid through convenient payroll deductions.

How can I learn more about this?

o Register to attend an orientation session by emailing [email protected]. Sessions will provide information about the two types of support – Take One and Full-Certification. You will learn about the standards and what is required to complete the process. You will also be able to ask

questions to help you decide if this is a professional growth process that is right for you.
