From the Board of Directors

Kevin Pilsbury

I am hoping this newsletter finds everyone doing well and in the best spirits possible. This is such a trying time and now we get to add hurricanes, our country’s elections and the ANNUAL MEETING preparation.

Our next Board of Directors Meeting will be handled through ZOOM on Tuesday, Sept. 8th at 7:00pm. We will begin promptly at 7:00pm with Resident Concerns (3 min-utes, limited to agenda items only). The link to the meet-ing will be posted on themainlands.com and in the club-house, both along with the Agenda, 48 hours prior. It will also be posted on Nextdoor Mainlands Unit Five Group, the Social Club Facebook page, and is provided here be-low. It addition, it can be emailed directly to you by send-ing a request to my personal email listed to the left.

This pandemic has made us learn new things. Attached in this newsletter please find an Information Update Form which includes EMAIL notices. I urge all residents to fill out this form as it will allow us to also send notices directly to your email inbox and save the unit in some postage expenses. See instructions on this form for re-turning it to the Property Mgmt. Office.

The Annual Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, Novem-ber 21, 2020 at 10:30am. Like the other Units (barring a miracle), it will be handled mostly online, adding to the task and challenges of the usual meeting. To follow cur-rent CDC guidelines we are making plans to have only the current Board and Counters in the club-house. (continued next page)

From the Board of Directors (continued from front page)

We will be using cameras onsite at major points, such as ballot check-in and count-ing stations, etc. The main purpose of our Annual Meeting is to vote on the pro-posed 2021 Budget, vote on any pending changes to our By-Laws or material changes (if any), and Elections to the Board of Directors.

The proposed Budget will be presented to the current BOD at the BOD Meeting in October and will be included in our 2nd Mailing prior to the Annual Meeting.

Board Members are elected for a two year term on a split term/rotation ba-sis. One year we elect 4 members, the next year 3 members. This year we will elect 3 members as the current terms are expiring for Tim Bara, Mike Chapman and Stuart Hoff.

This month’s Resident Concerns: 1. Trash: This time of year large rodents/animals are eagerly seeking out food left-overs from your trash. When putting out your trash the night before please try to use garbage cans with lids. If your trash is just in a bag, and it gets ripped into and scattered, it is your responsibility to clean up and re-bag. Putting it out during the day instead will avoid you having to clean up scattered trash. 2. Clubhouse and Restrooms: The restrooms at the Clubhouses throughout The Mainlands are “Public Restrooms”. The codes are shared with all maintenance personnel and are also open to guests of residents. Please be aware that our Clubhouse and restrooms are cleaned only on Wednesdays. Please enter at your own risk and bring sanitizer with you. 3. Other concerns (such as FDIC insured accounts) are still being looked into.

Meeting Humor

The president of 'Budweiser' orders a Bud, the president of 'Miller' orders a Miller Lite, Adolph

Coors orders a Coors, and the list goes on. Then the waitress asks Arthur Guinness what he wants to drink, and much to everybody's amazement, Mr. Guinness orders a Coke!

"Why don't you order a Guinness?" his colleagues ask.

"Naah. If you guys won't drink beer, than neither will I."

CLUBHOUSE & POOL Charlie Schmid

Safety First- For everyone's safety please remember while at the clubhouse and pool area to be aware of the sur-roundings and sanitize the areas you occupy. Also, when entering the pool area, clubhouse and restrooms, care should be taken to wipe the key pads, door knobs, toilet seats and levers with sani-wipes. Shower before entering the pool.

I am sure we are all following most of these same measures to keep safe when at the gas station or store. In to-day's environment we all have to be more proactive in steps to keep safe and healthy.

The 10-ton clubhouse AC unit is back on line with the installation of a new con-denser fan motor.

I want to address the complaints about the water temperature in the pool. First keep in mind the weather plays a big reason the temperature fluctuates. There have been many overcast days this month and a lot of chilling rain water. The geo-thermal unit is not automatic in the sense of switching from heat to cool-ing. Therefore, the water in the pool will not have a constant temperature daily. During the summer months, the unit is on cooling and in the winter months the unit is on heating mode.

Even though we are unable to have clubhouse events, we are still able to en-joy the pool. Please think positive thoughts during these trying times.

AQUA ZUMBA Kathy Bara

Aqua Zumba is postponed until 2021 and even then, my classes will resume only if CDC and local guidelines for COVID-19 are relaxed to a point where it is deemed safe for persons to be participating in group exercise while in the pool. Al-though my first concern is for the safety of participants, I am also mindful of liability for myself and The Mainlands.

Additionally, I would like to see the me-chanics of admitting students into a class shift from paper sign-up sheets and forms to electronic, no-contact methods. I’m hopeful that by 2021, both the Zumba & Silver Sneakers organizations will have created no-contact apps to pre-register, pay for classes and agree to the terms of a liability waiver. Both have recently sur-veyed instructors regarding concern with resuming classes, and I submitted my comments as outlined here. Already, Zumba is making progress in this area.

In the meantime, I have kept my liability insurance policy in force and will continue to provide proof of same to The Mainlands. I am also taking courses to satisfy the continuing education require-ment for certified group exercise instruc-tors. In short, I will be ready to go when the time is right. I miss seeing the group and hope you all are staying active, but mostly I wish you best of health.

FREE CLOTH FACE MASKS Kathy Bortscheller

I am still making masks for anyone that would like to have a cloth mask to cover their nose and mouth. I will give out 2 per person. The virus is still with us and spreading more and more thru Florida. Please practice safe distancing and stay safe. Please call me to get masks at 727-217-9217.

ZUMBA Instructor Linda Are you curious about ZUMBA?

Now is a good time to try ZUMBA in the privacy of your own home, for FREE! Linda Beaulieu, the Zumba Instructor who has taught in the Mainlands for years, has free pre-recorded classes online that you can access Monday through Saturday. Remember, these are GOLD Zumba, which means the steps are easy and the music is fun! She posts classes four times a week and they are available for 24 hours once posted. These can be accessed with a computer or a tablet with Internet or a phone with Internet. Because many in-structors charge for these classes, to get them for free you need a code, and the codes change weekly. If interested, e-mail Linda at [email protected] to get the current week’s codes, and website infor-mation. She will then put you on a weekly email that provides the codes.

NO EXCUSES NOW! E-mail Linda today, and join her later when she resumes classes in the Mainlands. She is available anytime by phone at 727-280-3300. Zumba Hugs!

Choose to be Happy (Even though we are tired of all this) Kelli Pilsbury “Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.” —Abraham Lincoln

People from my past always remark about how happy I seem to be now. My normal response is that “happiness is a choice and I choose it every single day”. Growing up in a “snooty” neighbor-hood, I had to force myself to stop chasing my friend’s definition of happiness. We have to push away so that we don’t get wrapped up in our circumstances. We have to learn that a person will not be able to find true happiness in people or in possessions that they may, or may not have. Look for reasons to be THANKFUL. There is always something to be grateful for…no matter what. Making a list of the positives in your life leads to forgiveness over resentment. It also helps in calming our stress level and forces us to focus on the good over the bad. Strive to let something that was negative be now something positive by following these little lessons: 1. Take CONTROL of your life’s daily outcome. Start out your daily schedule by planning a fulfill-ing day. Don’t lose control over your day by setting goals that may be unreachable, especially early in the day. Start out strong even if your plan is just writing a letter. As long as it is some-thing meaningful to you, the result will be rewarding. Practice being disciplined to your own stan-dards, not to someone else’s around you. When you feel like you have conquered one thing, even a small thing, it will help you have the confidence to tackle your next one. 2. Try to HOLD BACK on one negative thing per day. Maybe a verbal complaint or an unhappy thought about someone. Practice keeping one thing to yourself today and it will help with tomor-row. Choose instead to find the opposite by transferring your thoughts to find “joy” in the same situation or with the same person. This will give you peace over regret. It is much more helpful to remember a time you laughed with a particular person instead of something hurt-ful. Honor others by treating them better than the way you treat yourself! 3. Use your STRENGTHS to do one helpful thing each day. We all have separate talents and abilities. Not the ones we learned from working or life experiences, but the ones that we have naturally. Maybe you have the gift of listening? Phone someone who may just need to talk. Maybe you have the gift of affirmation? Tell someone one thing you like about them to-day. We do not possess a certain talent to just waste it away. Take the test: humbly use a talent you have today without expecting to get anything back for it. I have faith that you will find peace in this always. 4. Finally, CELEBRATE. I like to use this as an excuse for wine and chocolate but actually it is really just a reason to SMILE. A smile is infectious and it’s a good infection! Also, it hides the lines in our face. Celebrating your accomplishments of gratitude over jealousy, caring over rude-ness, and sharing over selfishness will only lead to love. Love will lead to unity and isn’t that what living in a community like ours is about for most of us? Take care neighbors. I hope you choose joy and be happy. That will make two of us. Call me any time….I am not always the best listener but I am willing to try. Maybe YOU can help me reach my goal to overcome that today.

Love you ALL (I really do)!!!, Kelli
