Our Holiday CardContest Winner!

2019 Fund Raising Total

This year was a milestone for your Credit Union: 60 years serving our Members. We came from humble beginnings and are now a thriving part of the communities we serve!

The Lisbon CU was founded in September of 1959 to serve those who resided or worked in the town of Lisbon, and persons who lived within a 3-mile radius of the Lisbon Falls Post Office. Since that time, our Credit Union has grown steadily and thoughtfully to keep pace with the needs of our Members. We have grown from serving Lisbon and 81 Members in 1959 to serving 8 communities and 9,600 Members in 2019!

We celebrated this year with a special Member Appreciation Day and thanked Members with a gift and a catered BBQ! To continue the celebration until the end of February 2020 we are offering 60th Anniversary rate specials for you with rates based on years of Membership. (Go to: https://www.lisboncu.org/Rates.aspx and click on the link Special 60th Anniversary Rates.)

As we move forward, our focus will continue to be on community. The strengths of our community determine the potential of our local economy to support its growth. For this we need your continued support. By being a Member, your dollars stay local. We reinvest your money right here in our towns so your investment becomes your neighbor’s loan, which strengthens our community.

A sincere thank you for making us a valued part of the communities we serve. Your Membership keeps our communities growing strong!

Windows 7 Support is EndingAre you ready for the end… of Windows 7 support?

On January 14, 2020, Windows will end support for it’s Windows 7 Operating System. Ongoing support of Operating Systems is vital to keep your PC or laptop protected from viruses, malware, and other threats. What can you do about it?

UPGRADE. Visit www.microsoft.com and see if your PC or laptop is capable of an upgrade to Windows 10. If not, consider purchasing a new PC or laptop. Consider alternate Operating Systems, too, such as Chrome OS (available on Chromebook laptops), or Mac OS (available on Mac laptops and desktops).

Using an out of date Operating System puts your entire computer at risk, so don’t delay.

5 Lending money...responsibly!

To promote the local business economy, the Credit Union began a new initiative in March 2016 called Business of the Month. Businesses are given the opportunity to showcase their products and services to build awareness and help promote their business.

Our Business of the Month display for October was Daniel Buck Auctions located at 501 Lisbon Street in Lisbon Falls. Daniel specializes in appraisals, valuations, trust & estate services, and auctions. Since 1999, you may have seen Daniel as an independent appraiser on the PBS television show ANTIQUES ROADSHOW where he had a number of on air valuations.

In November we hosted Maine Pellet Sales of Lisbon Falls. Owner Curtis Pass offers biobricks and wood pellet, both soft and hard. Maine Pellet Sales will deliver 1 ton or 10 for the same flat fee!Visit them today at 680 Lisbon Street in Lisbon Falls.

December’s Business of the Month was Wilderness Miracles Wildlife Rehabilitation of Lisbon. Owner Kathi McCue Reed and other volunteers from this local non-profit help abandoned, orphaned or injured wildlife, existing solely on donations.Would you be interested in

showcasing your business? We will provide a small table and help you set up a display featuring your business. There is no cost for this service. We have placed a Business of the Month box at the Receptionists’ desk in our main office for you to deposit your business card, or you may email Vickie at [email protected]. We will choose a new business each month and look forward to helping your business succeed.

SCAMS• If you receive a phone call from your own phone number- DO NOT ANSWER. It’s a scam.• Do not rely on caller ID. Any number can be faked. • If you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be from your bank or credit union and

asks you for your full card number and expiration date, and security code- DO NOT GIVE OUT THAT INFORMATION. It’s a scam. When in doubt, hang up, and call your bank or credit union directly.

• Scammers will say anything to get you to provide your account information. DO NOT FALL FOR THIS ACT.

• If you owe money to the IRS, you will not find out via phone call with threatening language. The IRS communicates via US Mail. When in doubt, hang up, and call the IRS directly.

• Never, EVER, purchase gift cards and give the card number and PIN to someone over the phone. Gift cards are like cash and cannot be recovered. Remember that gift cards are for GIFTS- to your family and friends! A legitimate business or government entity will never require a payment via gift card.
