hat is Blue-Zoo? We’re a CGI animation studio that was started 10 years ago by Adam Shaw, Oli Hyatt and Tom Box. Since starting from an tiny garage in South End, we are now employing over 50 people in our offices next to Regents Park in London (which are thankfully quite a lot larger than the original garage!). What kind of animation do you do? We’re mostly known for producing children’s TV series, specialising in character animation, as that’s how we started. A lot of our work now, is making high-end commercials and TV branding, with some corporate work also. At Blue-Zoo we have a strong ethos of investing in our own projects. To date we’ve created two of our own series; Those Scurvy Rascals and Stitch-Up Showdown both of which were picked up by Nickelodeon, and BAFTA nominated, which is a nice track record to have! Technique-wise, all our animations are produced in CGI using Maya and we always try and push ourselves creatively within the software to develop a variety of styles – quite a few people thought Stitch- Up Showdown was made using stop-motion puppets which was flattering to hear! Similarly we recently made an advert for Ofcom, which had the look of photographed hand-crafted paper objects, but again it was all done in Maya.
