be told--as a former English teacher--I am jealous of how smart these students are. And, here is my last one...but it’s really two. We have two very unique clubs in our Gaming Club and Cartooning Club. The groups of students for these two clubs likely cross over and attend both, but both clubs do a wonderful job integrating our students back into the school
community. Our Gaming Club competes against each other in some serious video gaming, which might very well be an IHSA club or esport in the near future. Maybe we’ll win the first state title? And, our Cartooning Club brings in all sorts of unique people and games to create an incredibly
interactive club (think anime, cartoonists, movies, guest speakers, card games, and more.) Without these different types of clubs, our school wouldn’t be as original as it is. If you have a student who is struggling to find his/her way through WHS, it’s time to find a place for him/her. Ask him/her to stop by my office or the School Counseling Office to talk about other unique ways to tie into the building. We know being connected to something improves the high school experience, but we also know it makes life more fun. Why can’t we have both, right?
Sincerely,
Art Vallicelli, Ed. D
Blue Streak Families, The second semester has settled in upon us with great success. Our students and staff are working hard and learning all they can to get ready for our end-of-year goals. But, out in the distance, there are other lingering parts to our high school that sometimes get forgotten. I thought it would be appropriate to let our newsletter readers in on some of the magic that WHS has that is less public as some of our sports or larger clubs. Let’s start with the theater. As you read this, the run of “The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe” will be halfway complete. However, we have amazingly talented students that work tirelessly for months to create a wonderful spectacle for theater fans. If you are interested in seeing some of the handiwork of our students, come out on Friday, 2/7, at 7 pm, or on Saturday, 2/8, at 2 or 7 pm. On the other side of the brain from theater is our Math Team. Yes--we have a Math Team that competes year-round and often brings home trophies! The contests are comprised of teams of students from area high schools that bring incredibly gifted math students together to compete. There are calculator and non-calculator teams; there are Geometry and Algebra teams; and there are small teams and individual events. All of it culminates in a team score that determines the winner. It's almost testing season! As we get closer to the big test day, there are a few activities that students will need to complete before they can test. Below you will find a few dates that are important for you as parents and also for students to be aware of. As we get closer to March, be on the lookout for more detailed information about testing. March 2 - All AP fees due March 31 - Pre-Admin session 1 (For SAT, PSAT 10) April 2 - Pre-Admin session for students absent from session 1 April 14 - PSAT9/PSAT10/PSAT Test April 28 - Testing make up day for all three grade levels May 4-8 - AP Week 1 May 11 - 15 - AP Week 2 New this year, all parents must consent to their son or daughter completing any pre-administration activities prior to the pre-administration session. This is very important because this is how many students are matched with colleges, scholarships and other resources to help all students work toward post-high school goals. The consent form was sent in an email from Dr. Vallicelli. Use that e-mail or the link below to complete the form FOR EACH CHILD participating before March 25. Any students without a signed consent form will have to complete an alternative pre-administration session. Consent form link: https://forms.gle/7jJH6TgxN1HzeHATA Please reach out to Tanya Thomas, test coordinator, at [email protected] with questions.

Market Day is back!
For those of you who have ordered Market Day in the past, and for those of you who haven’t (but you should!), Market Day has made a return. The simplicity makes this one of the easiest things you’ll do all month! Now you can order whenever you want (not just once a month), and Market Day DELIVERS items to your door. No making sure you head to the school at a specific time each month. Isn’t that awesome?! Please note that at this time, not everything we loved to order in past from Market Day is available. But there are still some awesome items you’ll want every month and items are added continually! Here’s how to order: CLICK HERE to register. Under “Choose Your School,” click on Woodstock HS Class of 2022, get yourself signed up, and order away! The December specials weren’t available at the deadline time for this newsletter but be sure to go online and check them out yourself. Just go to https://www.marketdaylocal.com/ If you have any questions, please email Mandy Chonos at [email protected] or Cathy Buhrow at [email protected].
