Dear Friends,

It is a privilege to share this annual report with you. We were able to help 17,250 animals last year. Do join me and take a moment to refl ect on the wonderful efforts by reading this annual report and acknowledging each and every member of the Blue Cross family who contributed towards easing the suffering of our animal friends.

We redefi ned our organisation structure. Please join me to congratulate our seniour members of our staff for their promotions: Mrs.Kumari is now Chief Executive & Shelter Director, Dr. Mallik is Chief Veterinary Offi cer and Pravallika is our Animal Welfare Offi cer. A new member to our team is Dr. Muttu Palani.

At our animal shelter we saw a large infl ux of volunteers, actively and enthusiastically working for the animals. A second lease of life for an abandoned and miserable little creature happens every time a kind person adopts. Such families are truly blessed. Foster care givers, community animal caretakers, rescue volunteers have made a world of difference to the animals ensuring the burden is not all left to animal shelters. God bless them all!

Our Red Dog, ‘Max’, passed on last year. He had never experienced a kind word or gesture until he arrived at Blue Cross. Tied by a rusty chain all his life in a basement, he rediscovered how to move free and make friends among us. Animal abuse is a ghastly crime and happens all around us. Join us to put an end to cruelty. When we rescued a wounded horse from a horrible acid attack, his story inspired Law maker, Jay Galla to speak in Parliament about our work, requesting for an increase in fi nes for animal cruelty. A big thank you to Jay Galla! We need 50 law makers like him to ensure that the amendement is implemented.

We initiated Mission Animal Welfare 2016 with efforts to train animal welfare volunteers across the 2 states and support the Government to start SPCA’s and ABC/ARV programmes in the districts.

Blue Cross is truly blessed to have the support and faith of wonderful people working day and night for the welfare of animals, and all of you, our donors, supporters and friends. Please remember to keep the animals in your prayers, celebrate your special days with us by sponsoring their feeding and always extend a helping hand when possible. The satisfaction is immense.

Dear All,

Always a pleasure sharing with you about the course of events of the past year. One more tumultuous year gone by with its victories and defeats.

From the Kerala horror to the circus victories, from the growing cruelty in the dairy industry to the upholding of ban on Jallikattu by the Supreme Court of India.

From an India where a more demanding human populace is claiming as its right, space and resources belonging to the silent animal world bringing with it greater violation of animal rights. Leading to an increased number of violations both in urban and rural India as the animal rights activists struggle to uphold the Indian law in the spirit it was meant to be.

In spite of all this what is heartening is the fast growing army of animal rights activists who are organizing themselves with the help of technology, law and unity to build a strong wall of defense for our animal friends.

Let us take forward this spirit to the 2016-17 to continue our struggle to end animal slavery and ensure that the animal world gets its just share in the resources of mother earth.

Armed with two ambulances, we respond to animal emergencies primarily rescuing homeless animals that are injured in road accidents or sick with infectious diseases and in need of immediate medical attention. Our rescue service operates between 9.00 AM and 5.00 PM, 365 days a year. Through this service, a total of 7,529 animals were rescued this year, including cats, dogs, cattle, equines, camels, pigs, goats as well as urban wildlife like monkeys, birds and snakes.

Important Information: The rescue helpline numbers have changed. We request you to make a note of it and save it in your phone for the next time you see an animal in need. We are available on WhatsApp. Callers are requested to make an extra effort to send a picture of the animal in distress or at least describe it in more detail so our team can prioritize the rescue.

News from the Rescue Desk - Pridhvi P Even though we run the rescue helpline between 9.00 AM to 5.00 PM on all seven days of the week, it is humanly impossible to respond to every call for help. We at Blue Cross are catering to the growing metropolis of Greater Hyderabad. This in effect means we cover 160 sq Kms and get nearly 200 calls each day. A growing city indicates heavier traffi c. The concrete jungle with external garbage disposal leaves no choice but for stray animals living on the streets to fi gure their way out in this commotion. It is but obvious, that life on streets is not only tough but extremely risky. This year we observed signifi cant increase in accident cases. Also, with the Metro Rail works and traffi c diversions, conducting rescues are tricky and can take double the usual time. To be effi cient, we have equipped both our ambulance drivers with smart phones that have google maps and Whats App to quickly coordinate rescues and fi nd diffi cult locations to trace the animals. As we track their progress we can help remotely plan and coordinate the rescues. Constraints, however, remain and we struggle to every call that needs help. But, we are proud to say that Hyderabadis have warm hearts. On request, callers promptly bring in the animals themselves when we explain that saving time could be crucial for the animal’s well being. We are so grateful to these compassionate citizens who go out of their way to make the effort. For most of them, it is a life-changing experience. If its their fi rst rescue, they are overjoyed to discover a shelter where animals are cared for. For fi rst-timers at shelter, its overwhelming to see the number of animals that get a second chance at life. Eventually they become rescue volunteers and community care takers, continuing to help hundreds of animals. And that, in essence, is what Blue Cross values, compassion in action.

Technical Rescue is challenging – Teja P, The Blue Cross Spider Man! It is at times when we get calls to rescue animals stranded in wells, deep pits or on ledges of high-rise buildings, that we wish we had a Spider Man on the team. It’s no

easy task to calm a terrifi ed animal, make it trust us to allow the rescue. Hence training is essential.

This year we had Team Prayas come all the way

from Gujarat and train the volunteers and staff for technical rescues. Thank you Prayas and Darshan Desai for your efforts - we are putting your training to good use! More importantly, we learned about safety. On impulse of rescuing an animal, we must not neglect our safety. Special salute to Humane Society International- India for sponsoring the rescue training and equipment which enabled us to enlist more technically skilled volunteers now responding to cases.

Many a times, technical rescues become a collaborative effort with the callers and communities getting involved as well. We have a higher number of cases assisted by the Fire Department, with their high end equipment. They are an inspiring team of people who are just as happy as we are to see an animal safely back on ground. Even the Police Department stepped in at times of need. Technicalities aside, it is the focus on the safety of the animals that united all of us this year.

Srinivas, our Senior rescue team member, has been driving the ambulance for a decade now. He says, “I am familiar with rescuing and transporting anxious and sick patients. My patients are cats, dogs, cattle, equines, goats, willdlife and even ducks. The animals need to be handled gently, to be reassured that we are helping them. The job has taught me to stay calm and patient, not just with animals but with people who are unable to see the animal suffering. Staying calm is very essential for my job. Taking support of latest technology – GPS and smart phone has made the whole process more effi cient.” Well, we sure are glad to have Srinivas as the face of Blue Cross for many in the public! His way of handling anxious crowds and animals have built a positive rapport with the community.

Ramesh drives the second ambulance. He says, “I discovered a compassionate side of myself which I had not known before. Blue Cross has taught me to handle animals in a humane way. It mean a lot to me when people declare that I am kind to animals”.

Read on to warm up your heart and motivate the compassion in you!• We found a young dog with a badly injured leg that was hanging on a piece of skin, that was rushed in for a surgery. Despite amputation, he was up and about within weeks, following the vets and handlers around the shelter. Hero won our hearts.

• Jasmine, a ginger kitten, came to us starving, with an old wound and a missing limb. After surgery and weeks of intensive care later, Jasmine got up to explore the shelter and claimed the roof of the old ABC ward as her corner. You will fi nd her sunning herself on the roof, quickly dropping down to greet anyone who comes her way. She oversees animals recovering in her ward which she ensures is rat-free. Welcome home, Jasmine!

• Our resident sweetheart Shanthi,(donkey) was brought in after a road accident that left all her legs fractured. Owners tend to abandon working equines if they suffer lameness, as they would no longer be fi t for work. Shy at fi rst, Shanthi recovered slowly enjoying her feed,making friends with the cattle. Today she is a feisty personality demanding carrots from admirers, enjoying a well-earned retirement. Try walking past her without hearing a loud, demanding bray for a scratch!

• Bandhu, a senior community dog, was injured by intruders as he tried to protect his community. The attack left him with a torn eye for which he came to us. Our team had to work carefully to help Bandhu recover, given his age. When Bandhu

recovered and returned to his community, he arrived back to loud cheers from the neighborhood. He lost his eye but he won so many hearts. Kudos to Bandhu, and hundreds of canine community chowkidars like him!

• Grills beware! A cat that got stuck in a grill took two whole weeks to recover from a broken limb. He was released back in the same area. Do have animal friendly architecture at home! Please do mesh your grills, make them wider or smaller to prevent an animal getting stuck.

• A caller reported Chinna, a young stray dog with severe mange. When he came to the shelter, Chinna had skin that looked like stone, no hair and was emaciated and terrifi ed. Mange infected dogs are shunned by both humans and animals in the community. After 2 months of medicated baths, soothing lotion, nutritious food and some love & care, Chinna was mange-free! He’s learnt to trust humans

again and was successfully released in his community, healthy and neutered.

This handsome dog from Gandhi Nagar suffered third degree burns when someone threw scalding hot water on him. Despite having been treated cruelly, he trusted us and responded to treatment. He was released in the same area, but this time the community watches out for him!

Blue Cross’s community sponsored veterinary clinic was established to assist pet owners who adopt animals from us or those who either cannot afford or do not have access to veterinary care. Providing basic animal healthcare, our community sponsored clinic is widely used by volunteers, community animal care takers, pet adopters and the local community. Clinic Timings: 9.00 A.M. to 1.00 P.M. on all days, and we remain closed on Mondays

Services Provided: Basic health check-up, annual vaccinations, skin concerns as well as emergency care for injuries and diseases. We give emphasis on counseling pet owners about pet nutrition, health, disease prevention, birth control and responsible owner/ pet behaviour.4,619 animals were treated at our clinic during 2015-16.

Chief Veterinary Offi cer - Dr. Idress MallikAs an animal shelter vet, one would think I am examining animals, giving shots, managing infectious diseases and doing other vet-related roles all day long. But this year, on being promoted as Chief Veterinary Offi cer, there is an added responsibility. Taking charge of the entire rescue team, para-vets and treatments in the shelter, I was able to expand my skills in both clinical and non-clinical settings. Streamlining protocols, assigning roles according to skill sets and aligning them with what the animals need at that hour has been a priority since the promotion. There is more to do the work than what people may expect from a vet.

Apart from hands on work, adopting and implementing SOPs to run the shelter has been challenging. Needless to say, the staff have supported the role with equal vigour, following every instruction. Being a team leader, it is important to motivate and keep everyone in high spirits. On Mondays when the clinic is closed, we hold meetings and trainings to improve services

and levels of care. It helps us organize ourselves better. Imagine responding to growing number of rescue calls with same resources at hand? New groups must step up.

A major milestone this year has been setting up a clinic at the entrance of the shelter. It prevents cross infection from sick animals at shelter to pets who come for treatment and from them to our shelter residents. Special thanks to Mr.Bharath Anumolu and the Animal Welfare Board of India for funding this project.

COMMUNITY SPONSORED VETERINARY CLINIC REPORT


We observed a higher number of visitors at the clinic, refl ecting the community’s faith in our services.

Our security guards Nethra and Ali voluntarily help every day, beyond their duty, at the entrance clinic. They are kind, considerate and help animals after hours & taking special care of the resident animals. After Max passed on this year, we have a position of Chief Security dog open - which is usually one of our most intelligent shelter dogs. Milo, a puppy born with deformities due to unethical breeding, has bonded well with the security team and is under training! Ali says that she fi ts the job really well.

In refl ection the Communications Team at Blue Cross shares “Helped to Heal” stories on our Facebook page. Being reminded that we at the shelter have contributed all year long to these stories, to these animals, realizing that we work with a dedicated team that learns and gives at every opportunity, a team that is more a family, I can only say that I love my job as a shelter vet.

COMMUNITY SPONSORED VETERINARY CLINIC REPORT

Blue Cross animal shelter provides home to Hyderabad’s sick, injured, abused, old, abandoned and completely helpless animals. Located on road no. 35, Jubilee Hills, the shelter is very accessible, open 7 days a week, ensuring help to animals in distress. You can show your support by sponsoring an animal or supporting the Annadaanam – the scheme that feeds our shelter animals on your birthday or anniversary. Visitng hrs are 11am to 12 noon and 2.30 to 3.30 pm.

Mrs. Kumari – Chief Executive & Shelter Director’s ReportAnother year fl ashed by, a blur of activities within and out of the shelter. Another batch of volunteers, hundreds of visitors, animal friendly citizens from schools, colleges and corporates who wanted to spend their special days with us and interns who put in one to six months of time- all of these people is what gives Blue Cross the strength and support to help animals.

Even after many years with Blue Cross, there frequently comes an animal that completely humbles me with its actions. One such case is Mamta the cat. Mamta was injured when

she came to the shelter. On recovering, as being scheduled for release, the beautiful cat made her way to the ward of orphaned pups and lay down as if to nurse them. She gave them such comfort it made our everyone notice. So now stays with us, having found her peace in nurturing and grooming puppies every day.

On a personal front, a promotion to the post of Chief Executive & Shelter Director makes the year memorable. In this capacity, I was able to focus on fund raising and CSR grants from corporates. Nabomita, our communications offi cer provided immense support with preparing material and communications. She has relocated to the U.S.. Ram Babu assisted with accounts and volunteers conducted awareness events throughout the year.

Blue Cross staff My biggest concern is the large number of amputee dogs and cats we have in the shelter. A rise in number of accident cases resulted in several new members being added to our Permanent Ward. The ward is fi lled to capacity and we are now looking for sponsors and even adopters for these beautiful animals. They are in great health and don’t need to stay in shelter, and they cannot go back on the street due to a disability. Do join our Sponsor Program for the special animals, help us fi nd homes and spaces where they can live in peace with some care and dignity. They are great watch dogs and can even guard farms in teams of twos and threes.Meet our animals residents who may have lost a limb but have not ceased to be loving dogs, providing beautiful companionship!

Hundreds of abandoned and homeless animals fi nd caring homes and families through our Adoption Program. The shelter also organizes adoption days on the last Sunday of every month - an event when foster care givers network to fi nd homes. Foster care givers and Community animal care takers share pictures of animals that need homes on our Facebook page by writing to us at [email protected]. The Hindu newspaper frequently features some of the adoptions to helps us spread word. As a result of these efforts, this year 698 pups, dogs, kittens and cats found caring homes.Adoption Centre Timings: 10 AM to 4.30 PM on all days. Do call before you come to check availability of inmates for adoption!

When senior citizens adopt, it is valuable companionship for them and a great deal of being pampering for the animals!

Peaches: Little Peaches, a piglet found wandering alone in the middle of a road was adopted by our Treasurer Aparna. “Every animal deserves a home!” With her gentle squeal, Peaches wants to tell everyone that pigs are not dirty, nor for pork. They are happy little souls that love life as much as we do.

ADOPTION PROGRAM FOR HOMELESS ANIMALS

“Be the change you want to see” was exactly what youngsters Shruti Darak and Zabi Khan believe in. When they saw shelters struggling to deal with abandoned pedigree dogs, who need special care, they started “A Place to Bark”, a foster and rehoming network for abandoned pets. Pedigree dogs have specialized needs for diet and grooming and do not do well in shelters. A Place to Bark fi lls the gap by running a foster network. Thank you guys!

Remember, a pet is for life. It is a 10 to 15 year commitment! Consider adopting an abandoned pet today.

A special mention to Mr. Bharat Anumolu of Beard Sell Ltd. And to Mr. Nitin Kulkarni, Dr. Umesh, Dr. Ganga and the team at Pedigree/MARS International, for supporting the adoption program and for sponsoring the insulated roof for our little puppies at the Adoption Center. Everyone who visits this center leaves inspired.


When you have volunteers who love animals and have the skill to talk and write tirelesly about animals, you put together a good Communications Team! A lot, talented from different fi elds, here are our volunteers who help with organizational communications, responding to emails and queries after working hours. They put together heart-warming stories from our work for you all to read or watch about:

Karthik Kotha and Evita Nathan of Ark blueprint, a premier website developer kindly redesigned our website to make it mobile friendly. Donors from both local and foreign locations are able to access our payment gateway online with ease. Karthik says, “Helping Blue Cross redesign their website gave me a chance to understand animal welfare extensively. The impact of being associated with this project made me adopt an Indian pup, Casper. We also have three community dogs at our offi ce, welcoming clients and basically, sleeping on the sofa.” Using our Facebook page, we communicate with over 1,35,000 animal friendly people each day. Reetika continues to be the brain behind lovely designs that garner attention while Archana is dedicated to responding to queries from netizens. Nita is instrumental in getting things going and oversees all the communication activities.The team coordinates to bring out heart-warming stories from shelter, works overnight to promote adoption requests and collates missing dog information to help families trace their lost pets.

Tulasi Menon who joined us last year as a volunteer took a giant stride to open a single-focus foster care center for orphaned pups and kittens. Hold My Paw, her little space for fostering, provides temporary shelter for healthy little pups that need a home. She says, “By fostering, we look after young pups and kittens, vaccinate them and help them fi nd families. Healthy animals do not belong to the shelter and it’s important to have a foster network bridging the gap”. Good luck and thank you Tulasi!

The national animal welfare fortnight is an opportunity for Blue Cross to move into the community, interact and infl uence positive attitudes in people by providing ARV vaccination camps and other benefi ts for the animals. This year Brilliant Industries sponsored 50% of all ARV vaccines needed for our camps. A big thank you to Mrs. Mourya and Brilliant Industries! Along with support from local communities, volunteers and animal care takers, along with GHMC staff, a total of 2,162 community animals were vaccinated against Rabies and 117 camels were treated for skin disease and other issues.

Anti Rabies and Awareness Drives were conducted in various areas acrosss the city starting January 16th, 2016 and continued up to February 4th, 2016. In all, 20 Anti Rabies Vaccination camps were conducted for community dogs in Circles 7, 10, 11, 12 and 14 of GHMC’s Central and West zones, as well as a few areas of the North Zone.

NATIONAL ANIMAL WELFARE FORTNIGHT


This year GHMC did not renew their request for support towards the ABC/ARV programme. So we have continued on our own as our duty towards animal welfare. We sterilized and vaccinated 2,191 animals. In addition 2,162 stray animals were vaccinated against rabies to ensure Rabies Free Zones and safe communities.

Our state-of-art Surgery Facility is now become a hub for training vets on Animal Birth Control surgery techniques. This Spay/NeuterTraining is an extensive discipline, to be conducted over the next 8 months with the aim to coach 250 government veterinarians across the states of Telangana and AP. The program is in partnership with Humane Society International-India, funded by the Animal Husbandry Departments of the States.

Some important facts: Garbage breeds stray animals. One pair of breeding dog can give raise in 2,000 puppies in their lifetime. Spay and neutering of dogs will ensure control of stray animal population in humane ways, reduce fi ghting among males and biting among females during breeding. As a Swach Bharat initiative spay/neuter (ABC/ARV) works well with door to door garbage collection. A Heartening Testimonial


A strong partnership among united animal welfare groups in the city has enabled an experienced and effi cient team of young people led by Vasanthi Vadi, Jayasimha (CEO, HIS India) and Shreya Paropakari. Working with an objective to create a more humane environment for animals through corrective and educational measures, we get close to 20 cruelty complaints a day from both AP and Telangana. We identify, investigate, counsel and prosecute the offenders wherever necessary. Our Animal Welfare Offi cer, Ms. Pravallika, shares some of our major victories and highlights here, among many that have come our way.

• Camel rescue: A herd of 110 camels being transported illegally to slaughter houses at Hyderabad and Kadapa; was rescued from Manoor village by the joint efforts of PFA Hyderabad and Blue Cross supporters. The camels were promptly sent back to Rajasthan and are currently in a rehabilitation facility at Sirohi.

• Jamuna circus rescue: PFA Hyderabad led the rescue of all animals from Jamuna circus, including 1 elephant, 8 dogs, 7 pups, 5 exotic birds and 6 geese; which were all rehabilitated at Blue Cross. Many were in terrible condition without vaccinations and suffering from parvo, and it was a challenge to care for them. Facilitated by the Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organisations this operation was conducted under ‘End Circus Suffering’ program.

• SAM Circus rescue: In a two week long collaborative effort, Animal Protection Organizations in Andhra Pradesh secured freedom for all animals in the possession of SAM Circus, camped in the West Godavari District.

PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS In partnership with People For Animals - Hyderabad & Humane Society International - India.


• Cock fi ghting: HSI India created a video for awareness against cock fi ghting that went viral – exposing leaders and politicians as law breakers, indulging in cock fi ghts all over A.P. 25 Cocks were rescued and given refuge at Blue Cross.

• Mass killing of dogs: To address the numerous complaints on mass killing of street dogs, our welfare offi cers reached out to the Police Commissioner and district authorities to implement Animal Birth Control (ABC). As a result, many Government vets are being trained to perform ABC effi ciently in their districts.

• Indian dogs on the street: We conduct education and awareness drives and implement ABC for a scientifi c management of dog population.

• Pet neglect / abuse: Innumerable cases of pet abuse are brought to our notice on a daily basis. The negligent owners are counseled and given support to improve the care for their pets.

Wildlife ProtectionTo protect urban wildlife, we work in partnership with Telangana and A.P. Forest Departments to facilitate the extrication, confi scation and release of wildlife back into their natural habitat. Besides this we rescue injured wildlife and treat them at our Veterinary hospital, we rehabilitate illegally owned wildlife rescued from the Circus and other places. 557 Wildlife were given help through our service. Indian roller campaign: Superstition claims that seeing an Indian roller bird at Dasara festival brings good luck. This blind belief has led to the capture of thousands of birds and their cruel death due to ignorance. After four years of vigorous campaigning in collaboration with the Wildlife Anti Poaching Squad, we noticed a decline in captive Indian Rollers. Four birds were rescued this year and we registered a case against the accused. The media was very supportive in carrying the news and increasing awareness.

The Indian roller is truly auspicious, but to serve its purpose it must be protected, allowed to live free and in the wild where it eats a diet of insects, thereby reducing the need for pesticide.

WILDLIFE PROTECTION


Ban of Chinese kite fl ying thread coated with glass powder – (also known as manja): Glass-coated nylon kite fl ying thread is extremely dangerous, killing birds, animals and even children in accidents. This year a ban was announced by the Government of A.P. and Telangana, which is a huge step towards humane and responsible practices. Now the challenge is to implement the ban.

Snake Rescues during Naga Panchami: Working with a partnership with Friends of Snakes, enabled the rescue of many snakes and have registered complaints against the offenders. Over the years, we have noticed a huge decline in the number of cobras in captivity.

Animal friendly behavior goes a long way in making the city safe for both people and animals. So reaching out to mould and mend attitudes, making way for an animal friendly world is an important service which we ensure through our Humane Education Programme. Our Animal Welfare offi cer visits schools and communities, guiding them to practice kinder and compassionate ways through understanding, exposure and opportunity to volunteer for animal welfare.

This year 25,000 children have learnt important things like : how to behave around animals which ensures they don’t get bitten by stray dogs, how to help animals, how to make rescue helpline calls and report animals in distress and compassionate ways to live for the planet and people. April 2015 A rally was held in collaboration with the animal loving community of Hyderabad in response to a cruel incident where a mother dog was beaten unconscious and thrown into a lake to drown. The rally brought attention to rising incidents of animal cruelty in our city.

May 2015A workshop on foster care for orphaned squirrels was conducted by Rakesh Kalva, Wildlife Biologist & NCBS Alumni. A volunteer group was identifi ed with skills to care for squirrel pups rescued. It is heartening to see a growing circle of responsible young people willing to work under guidance and follow protocols for animal welfare.

June 2015A “10-day Para –Veterinary” skills training program was conducted in partnership with Pedigree (MARS India). Trainers included experts from the fi eld : Dr. Lakshmi & Dr. Ramana Rao of Animal Care Clinic, Dr. Praveen Kumar, AD of Narayanguda Super speciality veterinary hospital, Govt.of Telangana, and Dr. Umesh from Pedigree. The Vets spent valuable time training participants and para-vet students, volunteers and Blue Cross Staff.

July 2015 : July 6th: World Zoonosis Day observed with an ARV camp.

March 2016Mission 2016 - Animal WelfareA two day training program was conducted by Mr.Vasudev Murthy, HR Expert and friend to the animals. With an objective to support 25 deserving animal welfare candidates from the Telugu speaking states, to conceptualize and facilitate action for animal welfare, it was a much appreciated effort. The group spent time discussing, sharing information, formulating plans and getting valuable feedback as well as prize money to carry out timelined work as per the plan. A big thank you to Vasudev for spending the weekend with Blue Cross to do this.

Besides this initiatives to support the State Governments of Telangana and A.P. to start district SPCA’s and ABC/ARV efforts in the districts were taken up.

Audit report under section 12(b) of the Income Tax Act, 1961 in the case of charitable or religious trust or institutions

We have examined the balance sheet of M/s. Blue Cross of Hyderabad (Society) as at 31st March, 2016 and income and expenditure account for the year ended on that date which are in agreement with the books of account maintained by the said trust or institution.

We have examined all the information and explanations, which to the best of our knowledge and belief were necessary for the purpose of the audit. In our opinion, proper books of account have been kept by the head office and the branches of the above-named trust/institution visited by us so far as appears from our examination of the books and proper returns adequate for the purposes of audit have been received from branches not visited by us subject to the comments given below:

BIO DIGESTERBiodigesters are designed to process biodegradable waste into Biogas and organic fertilizer by using the concept of anaerobic digestion which is natural breakdown of organic materials into Biogas and Organic Fertilizer. Mr.Subba Rao our well wisher and M.D.SSEV, donated us a 'BIO DIGESTER' providing waste management solutions at the shelter and converting the organic waste into gas that is used by our resident staff for cooking. At the Blue Cross of Hyderabad animal shelter, housing and caring for over 900 animals is no simple task and our monthly expenditure, however controlled, is a minimum of 3 lakh rupees per month. The only means of ensuring the work continues, is by appealing for legacies and other annual patron donations. Leaving a legacy for animals after your time on earth, is a wonderful way to show you care. We cannot take our belongings or wealth with us when we depart, but we can leave a legacy of love behind.

To those benevolent individuals who may wish to become benefactors by will to the Society, the following form is respectfully suggested: “ I bequeath to the Blue Cross of Hyderabad, for the purpose of animal welfare, a sum of rupees …………………, free of all duties, payable at the time of my death. I declare that the receipt of the Treasurer or officer of the Society for the time being of the said Society shall be sufficient to discharge such a legacy.”
