When Burdell was

born, his family was very

poor and there was “no

crib for a bed” so he was

wrapped up and laid in a

suitcase. He says he was

born to travel because of

his first crib and the

monument the city fa-

thers built on his birth

site—a Casey’s store.

Each year we attend

several travel conferences

where we meet with nu-

merous providers of

travel attractions, have

opportunities to network

with other travel escorts,

and participate in semi-

nars for travel planners.

Are you aware that during WW2 from 1944-1946, Algona was where

10,000 German POWs were held. They worked for farmers, detasseled

corn, worked in milk processing plants, at a box & barrel factory, did

silo construction, etc. While there, six of the prisoners built a nativity

scene with 65 figures which are 1/2 life size . We will see that nativity

set and the museum. When the prisoners returned home, they gave the

nativity set to the town of Algona. On our way home we’ll be visiting

The DeSota National Wildlife Refuge where the snow geese migration should be in full swing.

Each spring and fall since the ice age a half million snow geese utilize this area for resting and feed-
