Youth Fall Retreat
A Note from the Pastor:
The first twenty verses of Mark 5 displays Jesus’ power over demonic forces. Jesus’ power over the demonic is by virtue of His office as the Son of God and God the Son, but also fueled by His infinite power. This is important in light of the increasing interest in our culture regarding demonic and dark things. This is displayed in TV shows, a growth in satanic and occult activities, and each October it is seen in the increasingly darker direction of Halloween. In fact, Halloween seems to take over all types of stores, from grocery to pet to home improvement, in hopes of luring the consumer to get the latest, greatest and scariest costume, décor or themed candy.
Understand that it is not a sin to dress up and eat candy, and your decision to partake in this seems to be very much a matter of conscience, similar to meat sacrificed to idols in the New Testament (Romans 14, 1 Corinthians 8), but, what is sinful is to partake of things that dabble in, or give unhealthy attention to evil, darkness and the demonic. Ephesians 5:8-10 says, “for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord.” As you ‘discern what is pleasing to the Lord’ surrounding this holiday here is some mental jerky to chew on. If total abstinence from Halloween is where you land, look into focusing on Reformation Day, which is the anniversary of one of the most significant days in Western History. If you love seeing the kids swing by your house begging for candy, consider including a church flier or tract in with the loot you give. Further, be gracious to other believers who may share differing convictions regarding this holiday and be open to peacefully discussing such issues based on scriptural truth. Finally, act in accordance with 1 Corinthians 10:31, “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” Pastor Brett

REACH TEXAS MISSION OFFERING… The Reach Texas Mission Offering is an offering that we collect to impact the estimated 18 million lost people in our state. As a church affiliated with the Southern Baptist of Texas Convention, we are able to help plant churches, fund disaster relief, support struggling churches, make disciples and expand the kingdom of God through a host of strategic ministries in our state. To give to this offering, use the Reach Texas envelopes in the backs of the pews or simply write a check to the church and write “Reach Texas” in the memo.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD BOXES For the past 25 years, we have been collecting shoeboxes filled with gifts and delivering them to children in need around the world. Each box is an opportunity for a boy or girl to experience the love of God in a tangible way and hear the Gospel. Many boys and girls who receive shoebox gifts also participate in our follow-up discipleship program. The Greatest Journey, which teaches them how to faithfully follow Christ and share Him with others. Will you prayerfully consider joining us in this exciting ministry? Franklin Graham, President, Samaritan’s Purse
You can get your boxes at the back of the church. Read the brochure to see what the changes are for things you can and cannot put in them. Enclose your $9.00 check per box and return to the office by Tuesday, November 13.
