dance of No. America in the year of our lord one thousand seven hundred and ninty four be-
tween John Adam Blackwelder & Catron his wife of the County of Cabarrus and State of
North Carolina of the one part and Charles Blackwelder of the County & State aforesaid of
the other part witnesseth that for and in consideration of th sum of fifty pound good and law-
full money of North Carolina to them in hand paid by the said Charles Blackwelder. The re-
ceipt whereof is hereby acknowldedge, they the said John Adam Blackwelder and Catron his
wife hath given granted bargained & sold and by these presents doth give grant bargain and
sell unto the said Charles Blackwelder his heirs and assigns a certain piece or parcel of land
lying and being in Cabarrus County formerly Mecklenburg and State of North Carolina con-
taining by survey one hundred and fifty six acres of land lying on little Coldwater and waters
of rocky or Johnstons river beginning at a pine running south sixty seven west one hundred
and forty six poles to a white oak thence south sixteen east one hundred & fifty two poles to a
red oak thence north twenty five east sixty four poles to a red oak thence north forty one east
one hundred & fifty five poles to a red oad thence north sixty four west one hundred polesto
the first station surveyed by Arthur Mackay it being a tract of land originally granted to the
said John Adam Blackwelder by his Excellency Arthur Dobbs by indenture bearing date the
24th day of June in the second year of the reign of King George the 3rd and in the year of our
Lord 1762 ----- to have and to hold the aforesaid one hundred and fifty six acres of land with
the appertainences and all rights priviledges & imporvements to the same in any wise belong-

"We regret to learn of the death of Mr. George Cline [#542/1], which occurred last Sunday at the
residence of his son in law, Mr. Ransom Blackwelder, about four miles from Concord on the
Mt. Pleasant road. He was 93 years old, and was one of the most substantial men of this
county."

"Obituary – Today, Feb. 9th, we laid away to rest in our church cemetery the mortal remains of
Father George Cline [#542/1], father of Archibald and Wiley Cline. His age was 91 years,
nine months and sixteen days.
In his infancy he was baptized in old St. Joh'n church by Rev. Adolphus Neusman, the first regu-
lar pastor of St. John's and . . . remained in the same congregation . . . up to the time of his
death.
He married Esther Blackwelder June 15, 1819, with whom he lived nearly sixty years. She died
March 4th
, 1879. He was the father of five children, two sons and three daughters, one daugh-
ter dead; seventeen grandchildren, fourteen living; thirty nine great grandchildren, thirty three
living.
All of his children are members of our St. John's congregation . . .

Born Feb. 10, 1933, in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late James Monroe Blackwelder
and Annie Blackwelder Blackwelder. He was employed by Overnite, and was a life-long
member of St. James Catholic Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, having
served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of American Legion Post 51 where he
managed the canteen for many years. He was a member of the DAV and VFW. He was also
employed by the Concord ABC Board.
Survivors include his loving companion and friend, Betsey Hayes Lambert; a sister, Mrs. Gene-
vieve B. Benfield of Concord; and a brother, Mr. William A. Blackwelder of Concord.‖

He was preceded in death by grandson, Larry Hammett and sisters Christine Bates, Clara Ruth
Robertson, Wilene Edwards and Frances Penninger. Survivors include his wife of 61 years,

Born Feb. 15, 1930, in Pineville, Mecklenburg County, he was the son of the late Hilda McCrea
Blackwelder Linker and James Wilson Linker. Rev. Linker was a Navy Seabee serving four
years during the Korean Conflict. He was proud of being the flag bearer for his unit. He was
moderator of the Stanly Baptist Association for two terms. In retirement he served as interm
pastor at Porter Baptist Church for two years. He served at Community Baptist Church in Sa-
lisbury from 1966 to 1972 and Big Lick Baptist Church for 27 years.
He enjoyed his grandchildren, gardening, flowers and bird watching. Rev. Linker was very scho-
larly; he enjoyed reading and learning. His passion was his ministry and serving others.
The family will meet at the home of Donna and Greg Furr, 860 Hathcock Glen Dr., Oakboro,
NC.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann Jones Linker, of Oakboro, N.C.; three daughters, Donna
Mabry-Furr and husband Greg, of Oakboro, Alison Burris and husband Randy, of Locust and

home after a courageous battle with cancer for the past two years.

Born Jan. 14, 1966, in Cabarrus County, he is the son of Fay Lisk Blackwelder and the late Rev.
Robert E. Blackwelder.
Robin was a 1984 graduate of Central Cabarrus High School. He was employed by Pennsylvania
House Furniture in Monroe for 18 years, where he leaves behind many wonderful friends and
coworkers. He also leaves behind a wonderful church family, many family members and
medical personnel and staff who have attended him and his family during his illness.
He was a dedicated lifetime member of his church and served as a Deacon and Sunday School
teacher. He became an ordained minister July 21, 2002. Even though he was not able to fulfill
his dream to preach the gospel, he touched many lives in the last two years. His main priority
was to spend time with his family, especially his wife, Angel, and son Joshua. He was a de-
voted, loving husband and father who was dedicated to his family and God. His love for fam-
ily and God was the driving force that made him a cancer survivor for the past two years.
Robin was preceded in death by his father, Robert E. Blackwelder, on July 30, 1993, and by his
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Luther Blackwelder and the Rev. and Mrs. Blain Lisk.
Aside from his mother Fay Lisk Blackwelder, Mr. Blackwelder is survived by his wife Angel

Susie was born in Concord, on July 13, 1908, to Alfred and Rena Hill Allmon. She moved to
Mount Pleasant in 1919 where she resided until recent years. Susie was a beloved wife,
mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, whose life centered on her family and friends. She was
preceded in death by her husband of thirty years, Gillon Blackwelder. Susie was a respected
resident of Mount Pleasant, where she was known for service to others. She was a member of
the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church where she served for seventy-seven years. She
was the church custodian for eighteen of those years. Susie will be remembered as a though-
tful, friendly person who was always helpful to the many parsonage families that have served
the church during her membership. Susie loved to travel and spent several weeks each year
visiting family who always enjoyed her presence. Susie was also a seamstress, quilter, and
doll maker. She has handmade numerous quilts and hundreds of Raggedy Ann and Andy
dolls. They are prized possessions of those who are fortunate to have one, because each was
made with love and care. Many of her arts and crafts were sold at bazaars to raise money for
the church. In addition, each Christmas she made ornaments for every member of her church
family. In her spare time, Susie enjoyed gardening and helping deliver Meals on Wheels. All
who knew her will miss her dedication and love.

ty. He was a member of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korea War Era.
Mr. Blackwelder was a lifelong member of Concordia Lutheran Church, a member of VFW Post
8989, Moose Lodge #1722 in Landis, Eureka Masonic Lodge #283 AF&AM and Oasis Tem-
ple in Charlotte. He had been in insurance sales for most of his life with Pilot Life Insurance
and Blue Cross. He later worked at Cannon Mills and after retirement worked at the Shoe
Show Warehouse.
He was preceded in death by a brother, David W. Blackwelder Jr. Survivors include a daughter,
Phoebe Blackwelder Foster and her husband Herbert of the home, along with two grandchil-

Born on May 15, 1914, in Mecklenburg County, she was the daughter of the late Walter Greer
and Lessie Ann Medlin Blackwelder. The wife of the late Elmer E. Helms Sr., she was a ho-
memaker and a member of Sharon Baptist Church in Concord.
Survivors include her daughter, Edna Elaine Helms Carter and her husband, Larry, of Kannapo-
lis; sons, Elmer E. Helms Jr. and his wife, Alice, of Jacksonville, Fla., Edward E. Helms and
his wife, Mary, Ernest E. Helms and his wife, Becky, and Bobby W. Helms and his wife,
Brenda, all of Concord; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Minnie Blackwelder.‖

Mr. Blackwelder, 83, of Charlotte went to be with the Lord, Nov. 20, 2006, at Presbyterian Hos-
pital. A service to celebrate his life will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, at the Redeemer Lu-
theran Church, 2422 Ashley Road. Visitation will be at the church at noon prior to the ser-
vice. He was born Dec. 29, 1922, in Cabarrus County, son of Albert J. Blackwelder and Cora
McCall Blackwelder. Mr. Blackwelder was a charter member of the Redeemer Lutheran
Church. Fred served as a tech sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II from
1943-46. He served in the Pacific Theater where he was awarded the Purple Heart. Fred
worked for WBTV as an engineer for 35 years before his retirement. Surviving are his wife of
60 years, Helen Alexander Blackwelder; children, Dennis and wife, Jeannie, of Weaverville,
Jerry of Raleigh and Randy of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Allyson and husband, Colin
Krehbiel, and Ashley Blackwelder of Raleigh, Derek Parker Blackwelder and Nikki Black-
welder of Weaverville; and one great-granddaughter, Calysta Krehbiel; sisters, Leona Press-

―CONCORD - Mr. William Eugene Blackwelder, 82, of Arlington Avenue Southeast, Concord,
passed away Friday. He was born in Concord, son of the late Wiley and Florence Sides
Blackwelder. He graduated from Concord High School and King's Business College, and also
attended CPCC, Belmont Abbey College and UNCC. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps
during World War II. He retired from SCX Railroad in Charlotte after 37 years and the Fed-
eral Government Office of Personnel Management in Raleigh after 11 years. He was a former
president of the Charlotte Traffic and Transporation Club and a member of the American So-
ciety of Traffic and Transportation. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 51
and St James Catholic Church. William is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sarah Blackweld-
er Blackwelder; and his son, William Eugene Blackwelder Jr. of Gastonia. The family will
receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Monday at Wilkinson Funeral Home and his funeral service

tirement in 1984. She had also worked at Bitsy Bakery, Woolworth's Department Store and
Cannon Mills Co. at other times in her life. She was a long time member of Lakewood Bapt-
ist Church, Kannapolis. A lifetime resident of the area, she was a graduate of J.W. Cannon
High School. She enjoyed cooking for her family. Mrs. Blackwelder was preceded in death
by her husband of more than 50 years, George Vernon "Bud" Blackwelder who died July 27,
1994; and by three brothers. Survivors include her son, Jerry V. Blackwelder of Greensboro;
daughters, Jeannie B. Reid and husband, Craig, of Kannapolis and Judy B. Cannon and hus-
band, James, of Tobaccoville; sisters, Ruby McKinney and Lois Carter both of Kannapolis;

―CONCORD - Eugene Dwight Blackwelder died at his home at Taylor Glen Retirement Com-
munity on Saturday, March 24. He was born Feb. 15, 1927, in Concord and was the son of
Henry Grady Blackwelder Sr. and Dessie Millsapps Blackwelder, now deceased. Also de-
ceased is his brother, H.G. Blackwelder Jr. Mr. Blackwelder graduated from Concord High
School. After serving in the U.S. Army, he attended the University of North Carolina at Cha-
pel Hill, where he was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate in 1950. After teaching English at Concord
High School for two years, he returned to UNC-Chapel Hill to complete a year's graduate
study. During this year, he also taught freshman English at UNC-Chapel Hill. In 1953, he
rejoined the English faculty at Concord High School and was employed by Concord City
Schools for more than 30 years. In the early 1970s, he became Director of Instruction and
edited the Concord Schools monthly newspaper, Progress Report. In 1961, the Concord Jay-
cees honored Mr. Blackwelder with the Distinguished Service Award. In 1966, he was
awarded a John Hay Fellowship for a year's graduate study in the humanities at Northwestern
University. For several years afterward, he taught an elective humanities course at Concord
High. For six weeks in the summer of 1973, Mr. Blackwelder and his wife led the first study
abroad program for Concord Middle and High School students, which was sponsored by
Scholastic International. In the 1960s, Mr. Blackwelder led Concord's first Great Books Dis-
cussion group at the original Concord Public Library. He also participated in another Great
Books Discussion group in the 1980s. Mr. Blackwelder served on the Board of Directors for
Historic Cabarrus during the old courthouse renovation. A lifelong member of McGill Baptist
Church, he taught a men's Sunday school class and served as a deacon in the church for many
years. Recently, he was honored by being named "Deacon Emeritus." After retiring from
Concord City Schools, Mr. Blackwelder and his wife operated a frame shop on McGill, "The
Greenwood Tree," for 16 years. Surviving Mr. Blackwelder are his wife of 53 years, Ruby
Swisher Blackwelder; sons, Stephen Dwight Blackwelder of Chicago and Joel Edwin Black-
welder and wife, Carol; and grandson, Owen Clay Blackwelder of Charlotte; and a number of
nieces and nephews.‖
