Principal’s Report Dear Parents,
P & C MEETING
Tuesday 5th June, 2018
9.30AM
All Welcome!
THANK YOU MRS OSBORNE!
On behalf of the parents, staff and students, I would like to thank Mrs Osborne for
her dedicated service whilst working at Blacktown West. We will miss you but wish
you all the best at your new school. Thank you!
THANK YOU AND CONGRATULATIONS! Thank you for the huge effort made by the P & C who have managed to raise $981.00 from the Mothers’ Day Stall. Thank you to all the parents who managed to spend hours buying, sorting and wrapping the gifts.
EAfS PARENT INSERVICE On Thursday 14
th June, Mrs Garbutt and Mrs Brierley will be holding a parent
workshop to help you support your child as they develop their number sense. K-6 parents are welcome.
KINDI FARM INCURSION Next Tuesday, Kindergarten will be involved in an incursion: Kindi Farm. If your child is in Kindergarten, don’t let them miss out on a wonderful learning experience with the animals from a farm. They get to milk a cow, and understand how the food in the supermarket comes from a farm.
SHARING Blacktown West is in partnership with the Blacktown Learning Community and is able to offer 30 students the chance to be involved in an extra workshop. If your child is invited to participate, they need to be able to be transported to and from the venue by their parent.
INTERVIEWS Interview notes will be sent out next week ready to organise times for the three way parent/teacher and student interviews. Please return your preferred time as soon as possible. The interviews will be held in week 9 - Monday 25
th, Tuesday 26
th, Wednesday 27
th
and Thursday 28th June. Teachers outline times that they can organise.
Just a reminder that the reports are handed out at the interview. The interviews are arranged for ten minutes. If you have more questions, please just schedule an extra time as teachers need to keep to their timetable. Thank you for assisting with this.
NAPLAN All students in Year 3 and Year 5 sat the NAPLAN test. The students tried hard and gave it their best effort. The results are sent to the school around the end of Term 3.
HOLIDAY JOURNALS
A big congratulations to all the K-2 students and parents who
participated in the holiday journal writing program. We had a
wonderful response with 103 journals returned to school!
Students shared their writing with their friends and teachers.
Thank you to everyone who has supported this program.
EAT IT TO BEAT IT PARENT WORKSHOP Thank you to the Cancer Council Australia for presenting a fruit and vegetable sense workshop to the parents at BWPS. Thank you to the parents for attending the workshop. The group learnt about portion control, eating right, menu planning, saving money and enticing fussy eaters. Ms Sami
COMMONWEALTH GAMES DAY On Monday 7th May the students at Blacktown West participated in the Commonwealth Games Day which was run by the Be Skilled Be Fit organisation. Students from K-6 had a wonderful day participating in Opening and Closing ceremonies and a variety of fitness games, including catch the tag and tug a war. The students learnt about the Commonwealth Games, were active, displayed excellent sportsmanship and had a lot of fun.
K-2 MATHS GAMES
K-2 Maths Games will be sent home again this term. Thank you to all the parents who are taking the time to play these
games with their children. These games will support children in developing fluency with their number skills. We
appreciate that games, dice and all counters are being returned so the next class can use them.
WALK SAFELY TO SCHOOL DAY Thank you to all the parents and students at BWPS for supporting Walk Safely to School Day on Friday the 18th May. The children walked, cycled and rode safely by wearing protective gear and using pedestrian crossings. Keep up the good work everyone and remember everyday should be a walk safely to school day!
Yours sincerely
Meg Peel Principal
