HERE in this space next to the source image, insert a recognizable, boldly drawn scale model that gives viewers a sense of how large or small the original work is, compared to your model.

Make an enlarged rendition of the entire image on an 8½ x 11 inch surface. For directions, read how the rendition will be assessed. (See reverse side.)

Evaluate the RENDITION you made of the original artwork (from the source image)…

1 The finished rendition’s edge-to-edge measurements are exactly 8½ x 11 inches, so that it will fit perfectly into a page protector. > 1” OFF 1” OFF ½” OFF ¼” OFF SPOT ON

2 The artist used a heavier/textured art paper (surface) that is compatible with art media/materials used to make the rendition. Heavier, thicker surfaces are more compatible with most art media/materials – wet or dry – as they hold up to moisture, friction, scraping, taping, blending, etc.

TISSUE-/NEWSPAPER PRINTER/OFFICE PAPER CARD-/COVERSTOCK HEAVIER ART/DRAWING W-COLOR/MIXED MEDIA

3 Graphite was not used. The artist used other art media/materials. These other media dominate the finished rendition. (If the artist did use graphite, the graphite marks are now gone, erased, buried, hidden, faint, hard to see, disguised, obliterated, replaced, etc.)

ALL GRAPHITE MOSTLY GRAPHITE OBVIOUS GRAPHITE USE A LITTLE GRAPHITE NO GRAPHITE

If wet media/materials were used, the artist waited until the rendition was completely dry before (un-taping it and) handing it in. * NO, AND IT CREATED SOME PROBLEMS. SORTA’… YES! THANK YOU. THAT WAS CONSIDERATE.

If dusty media/materials were used, the artist fixed the rendition with hairspray or fixative before handing it in. * NO, AND IT CREATED SOME PROBLEMS. SORTA’… YES! THANK YOU. THAT WAS CONSIDERATE.

If border tape was used to secure the paper to a drawing board, the artist removed all border tape before handing it in. * NO, AND IT CREATED SOME PROBLEMS. SORTA’… YES! THANK YOU. THAT WAS CONSIDERATE.

4 Care and craftsmanship were applied to the rendition. The work is free of curls, bends, ripples, creases, folds, rips, tears, smudges, stains, etc. REPLACE/DO OVER NOT FIXABLE/UNSIGHTLY DAMAGED FIXABLE/TOLERABLE EXCELLENT SHAPE

5 The rendition uses the same picture space, orientation and proportions as the source image. WHAT THE…?/DO OVER WAY OFF GOOD ENOUGH PRETTY CLOSE NEARLY THE SAME

6 The rendition resembles the original. While it may not be an exact copy, it is obvious that the artist took the time necessary to imitate the original work’s composition, arrangement, details, contents, light and dark values (tones), textures, gestures, etc.

NOT ENOUGH LITTLE RESEMBLANCE CLOSE ENOUGH STRONG RESEMBLANCE ELABORATE and/or CLEVER

7 Every part of the entire picture area is completely coated with art media/materials. There are no leftover, unfinished, blank, bare, scribbly or quickly filled in areas. “White” areas exist because the artist made them white with his/her own marks and media/materials.

NOT AT ALL ( < 25%) BARELY (25%) SOMEWHAT (50/50) MOSTLY (75%) TOTALLY (100%)

Evaluate the INFORMATION you provided about the original artwork…

8 Next to the source image (see reverse), the artist created/inserted a scale model that visually communicates the original artwork’s actual size. MISSING WIMPY/WEAK PENCILED OUTLINE INKED OUTLINE CUT & PASTED/INKED SOLID

9 The scale model is reasonably accurate in its size comparison and universally recognizable, requiring no words, numbers, explanations, etc. MISSING OFF/UNRECOGNIZABLE REQUIRES EXPLANATION INACCURATE, but KNOWN ACCURATE & RECOGNIZED

10 “Blanks” about the original artwork are accurately filled in – the artist’s name, materials/media used, its actual size, its current location, etc. NOT AT ALL A LITTLE... NOT ALL FILLED IN FILLED IN, BUT…(?) FILLED IN & ACCURATE

11 The artist added information he/she read, researched, learned and discovered about the original artwork by filling in the lines provided. NOTHING A FEW LINES/NOTHING NEW HALF the LINES FILLED MOST of the LINES FILLED… …and with DETAILED INFO

12 The added information is easy to read. ILLEGIBLE HARD TO READ LEGIBLE NEATLY HANDWRITTEN NEATLY HANDPRINTED/TYPED

Combined assessment:

INSUFFICIENT WEAK OKAY STRONG EXEMPLARY

* Not all criteria apply to every assignment. Criteria that do not apply, are not assessed and do not count against the work’s overall assessment.
