Sensei Dixon’s 3rd book in the series Goju Budo presentsstep by step instruction and terrific graphics of Goju Ryu’ssignature powerful Sanchin Kata, and it’s counterpart,Tensho form. These two forms introduce the concept ofinternal energy and the dynamic power that is the heart of Goju Ryu.These Kata carry a powerful message in their yin yang concept within which we can find new understanding to that we can apply in every area of our lives. As inspiration to the beginner, or reinforcement and newinsight to veteran karateka the concepts presented in this book will continue to serve and inspire you in your practice at the dojo, in your daily life, and in your aspirations for the future.

This 4th book in Sensei Dixon’s series on Goju Budo is a continuation of his instruction in the system. These more senior kata are shown in great detail. The demonstration of the use of the moves in more than one application give the reader insight into the possibilities of the form.

The additional philosophical, historical, and training information is invaluable to students of all levels. These books are an excellent addition and augmentation to ones notes and training books.

Volume 5 of the CMAC Goju-Budo series is a landmark volume. It provides instructors and students of varying levels with an immense wealth of knowledge that stimulates the mind, refreshes and energizes the soul and inspires all to continue on this incredible journey in the Martial Arts. Sensei Dixon intrigues us with the Bunkai and gives us greater understanding and insight into the hidden movements and self defences of the Kata.

- Sensei Tammy Thankachen (CMAC Oku Damashi)~

Sensei Dixon's series is a growing record of the evolution of Canadian Karate-do. They are not just text-books on kata, application and theory, but they also reflect the refinement and skill all those who set forth on the path of Martial Arts should aspire to. His books mark the dawn of an exciting time, "the rise of Canadian Budo", and illuminate the contributions made to martial arts by one of Canada's living icons, Sensei W.M.Platt.

Thought without action is a dream, action without thought a nightmare.

Health Tip

I’m in the process of writing a new book, well a couple actually, but the one I’m referring to is a different book than I’m used to writing, it’s a child’s book. I’ve been mulling over this book concept for sometime now and I think it has some serious value. It is a book devoted to communication. Most of the problems we run into with others is our failure to communicate.

You cannot deal with everyone the same way. We would all like that to be the case but it simply isn’t. You can’t talk to a police officer the same way you would talk to a thief trying to take your money and expect it to go well. You can’t talk down to a waiter or waitress and expect them to be nice to you or that you’ll get better service. You can’t think that a bully is going to be reasonable. You have to be nice to people all the time, but realize that your manners may sometimes not be relaid back to you.

People are funny and by that I mean odd or hard to figure out at first. The more you understand people and all the different types of psychological characteris-tics, the better chance you have to get along with them. What is their motivation to treat you a certain way? Is it for ego, are they trying to control you, or manipu-late you into doing something you don’t want to do, etc? There are many reasons people do the things they do, but by knowing what you’re up against you have a better chance of getting through it unscathed.

Defending ourselves comes long before we have to get our hands up, it starts by evaluating your surroundings. We all need to be aware of the threats in our envi-ronment, that is the first step. Avoiding them is a nice way to go, but not always an option, so you need to be prepared by education, knowing how to deal with the threat. People will often try to figure you out by saying something to you. The first contact may give them an opening for conflict and if that is their inten-tion it really doesn’t matter what you say. So when they try and start something you now know that was their intention.

Talking to strangers can be tricky, it’s a study for sure.

It has been discovered in scientific labs that intention has physical effects on the body. The Placebo Effect; is the belief that the a person can override their biology. At least 1/3 of all healing has to do with the placebo effect. Sending a message to the body that I am better is sending a message for it to correct itself.

When we think positive thoughts we release certain chemicals into our body that are helpful and healing, and the opposite is true for negative thoughts. Negative thoughts can make you sick.

Never under estimate the power of positive thinking.

Spot the type O - feel the reverse punch. A Zen Riddle

6 Early Signs Your liver is DamagedThe liver can regenerate itself like a superhero, but that doesn’t mean it’s invin-cible; it can become damaged just like any other organ.

When a liver is working well, it cleans the blood, helps digest food and fights infection, it can regenerate when damaged by replacing old tissue with new cells.

Anything that keeps your liver from doing it’s job, or growing back after injury, may put your life in danger. That can be inflammation, scarring, cancer or even too much Tylenol. Even though the liver lies on the inside of the body, the body shows outward signs when something is wrong.

(1) Turning Yellow - Your skin and the whites of your eyes could turn yellow, due to a build up of a yellowish substance called Bilirubin. The yellowish symptom, called Jaundice, can occur when the liver’s damage prevents it from process-ing that bilirubin. Common causes are hepatitis, cancer, drinking too much alcohol, abusing ecstasy, exposure to toxic substances and various infections.

(2) Your body waste - Jaundice also changes the colour of urine and stool, making urine dark and stool pale.

(3) Itchy - The Mayo Clinic lists liver disease as an underlying cause of itchy skin, as well as kidney failure, thyroid prob-lems and cancer. The itching usually affects the whole body. The skin may look otherwise normal except for repeatedly scratched areas.

(4) Bruises - People with liver damage will bruise more easily because their liver has slowed or stopped production of proteins that are necessary for clotting. The liver actually produces several clotting factors, all of which begin to disap-pear in people with damage to that organ.

(5) Swelling - When the liver isn’t able to do its job, people may start to retain water in their abdomens and legs, causing swelling.

(6) No Signs - In some cases, there just isn’t any indication that something is going wrong. Up to half of all cases show no signs, so if you see these mild signs pay attention - fatigue or excessive tiredness, lack of drive, occasionally itching.

Once a person progresses beyond those early symptoms, the damage to the liver and the side effects become more seri-ous. The problems are quite graphic and a transplant maybe required. So keep on a healthy lifestyle.

A Quarter Century of Service

A wise man once said ... nothing.

The Council of 7th Dans and all the Directors of CMAC would like to Recognize

Martin O’Connells Quater Century of Service

to the Martial Arts .Well Done!

March 25, 2017

Sensei O’Connell has been teaching in the same location since 1992 and has just celebrated his 25th, congratulation Kyoshi.

The Highpark dojo was in charge of the opening ceremony for the last Black Belt grading, and what an outstanding job they did. Started with a whole array of forms ranging from karate, tai chi, weapons and ba gwa, all miraculously ending at the same time. The two most seniors students of High-park preformed a kata to honour two students that have passed on, it was touching.

Following the kata the Highpark house band - “The Shao-lin Temple Pilots” put on an amazing show with many pop songs that have been altered to suit our Goju Karate needs, it was a fantastic opening show. It was the longest opening in the history of CMAC Black Belt gradings.

Ego and Eco shows us that an ego motivated man puts himself at the top of the heap. A humble man sees himself as apart of a living cycle and his life is no more important than the rest.

Look at the shark and the man, now think which one is more deadly or powerful. Well they are both pretty scarey I just wanted to post this shark pic, how awesome is that guy?!

These Black Belt classes seem to be picking up some interest to those members that haven’t been able to keep a regular training schedule, and that’s fine. The important thing is to keep training at whatever capacity you can afford time wise, it’s always nice to see you on the floor. Lately we have been working some of the kata that Sensei Platt has been showing at the Honbu, so it’s new to everyone. Last class was mostly tai chi as a warm up then kinda went for the better part of the class, I thought it was awesome.

If you haven’t been in for a while it might be a good date to put on your calendar, no judgements.

The date has been set Archery Tag is April 23 at noon. You’ll want to be part of this action, we just had a blast at the last one.

Each time we go it gets better, we get better, but don’t let that scare you, we’ve only gone twice. It’s just like training the more you do it the better you get. It’s still early enough that we aren’t pros, but soon, so be part of it.

We are going to put this out there to other dojos, the Mississauga guys were all over it last time and they did great. Let’s see who jumps in this time.

First Black Belt Class of 2017 Hosted by Sensei DeQuetteville at the CMAC Ajax Dojo

February 12 2017 Sensei DQ and Sensei Titus receive the title of Renshi

Long over due but we had our first Black Belt class in the Ajax Dojo in an effort to christen the new dojo with some Black Belt Ki power.

Just a great group made the trek out to Ajax on a crappy snowy day, which is the testament of a good warrior. Excuses to quit are every-where, but excuses are the tools of the unsuccessful, so we perceiver.

We covered Chi Gung and tai chi to ramp up some internal power and that actually went on for the better part of the class. We finished with two kata that have been pretty prominent at the Honbu these

With all the drugs everyone is taking it is ending up in our drink-ing water in very small percent-ages but it still happening.

I don’t want to take drugs but thanks to big pharma we are all taking drugs, so thanks big pharma.

I don’t want to turn this into a rant about big pharma and profits and dumbing down society and con-spiracy theories of government control etc. but people are losing their minds all around us.

If you don’t have to take drugs please don’t. If you have someone in your life struggling with some form of dementia, be nice, com-passionate, and understanding, it just might be you one day.

This is the correct way to line up your crests on your gi.

Notice that the top of the CMAC diamond is pointed directly at the maple leaf on the banner of the fist and is in this proximity.

Both crests are straight up and down, not on an angle that is lined up with the gi top’s lapel .

The crests should sit on the left chest of the gi top.

Notice that the CMAC diamond has the black leaf on top.

If you want to grade to yellow belt you should have a fist on your gi

If you want to grade to orange belt you should have a CMAC diamond.

Ajax SeminarJust a Funtastic knife seminar! Sensei DeQuetteville is really passionate about knife self defence and it sure showed at the seminar.

His knowledge and skill came through in a brilliant seminar presentation. He went though all the do’s and don’ts of knife fighting in a fun yet serious format that only he can.

Thanks for having us out and we wish you all the best with new beautiful location.
