DEPARTMENT OF MILITARY AND VETERANS AFFAIRS Peter Sarni III is the Recruitment, Placement and Mentoring Coordinator with the New Jersey Youth ChalleNGe Academy. As the RPM Coordinator, Mr. Sarni supervises a team of 8 personnel dedicated to the success of young adults. His section consists of Recruiters, Case Managers, Post- Residential Specialists, IT, and Administrative Assistants. His list of responsibilities include, but are not limited to, all the marketing for the Academy, qualifying all potential candidates, over-seeing the completion of intermediate and long-range goals of the cadets and the post-residential success of each graduate. Mr. Sarni was born in Brooklyn, NY and has since lived in Staten Island, and New Jersey until he enlisted in the United States Navy in September 1992. From 1992 to 2002 he served with the US Navy and the United States Marine Corps. He served in several different unit’s and commands: Naval Hospital Groton CT, 3rd Reconnaissance Company and 5th Force Recon Battalion in Okinawa Japan, and Naval Submarine Support Facility, US Navy Dive Locker in Groton CT. He worked in these unit’s in several (MOS’s) Military Occupation Specialties: (0000) US Navy Hospital Corpsman, (8404) US Navy Field Medical Service Technician, (0321) USMC Reconnaissance Marine, (0331) US Marine Corps Heavy Machine Gunner, and (8493) US Navy Deep Sea Diver Medical Technician. In 2002 after being Honorably discharged from military service he attended and graduated from the Somerset County Police Academy and served as Police Officer in the Morris County Park Police Department From 2003 to 2008. He served within the Patrol Division, was a member on the ICE Water Rescue Team, ATV Unit, as well as on the County Tactical Riot Response Unit. While he was also serving as (TDG) traditional duty guardsman in the New Jersey Army National Guard. From 2004 to 2006 he volunteered to deploy to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III; serving as: (31B) Military Police and a (68W) US Army Combat Medic Specialist. He served as a (79T) Recruiting and Retention Noncommissioned Officer, (MFT) Master Fitness Trainer, (RSP) Recruit Sustainment Program Cadre, (ROTC) Reserve Officers’ Training Corps Cadre, (OCS) Officer Candidate School Cadre. In 2016 he was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant and served as the 1SG for the New Jersey (SWEAT) Soldier Wellness Education and Training Program; a program that he created while serving as the Section Chief for half of North Jersey for Recruiting and Retention Battalion. In 2018 he relinquished his command as the S.W.E.A.T. 1SG to Joint Force Headquarters and became the 1SG for the Recruit Sustainment Program Training Regiment and continued his duties as Section Chief until he retired in December 2019.
