REGGAE STAR ETANA LAUNCH NEW ALBUM
VP Records Pacific/Frequency Media Group are pleased to announced the release of Jamaica‟s
Reggae female artiste Etana third album “Better To marrow” at Catherine Hall Entertainment
Centre on July 17, 2013 commencing at 6:00pm.
Positive vibrations introduce each of the album‟s tracks, which glide between influential reggae-
dance rhythm and dynamic percussive breaks, layers of Africian inspired choral chants,
swooning seductive vocals and gospel reggae.
“Better To marrow” was recorded at Kingston‟s legendary Tuff Gong Studios and is said to be

her most confident and cohesive work presently.
Etana explained that she wanted the album to feel like a concert performance and well organized
like chapters in a book, with all of the tracks played live by musicians.
Producers for the album Shane C. Brown of Kingston‟s Juke Boxx Productions and Stanley
“Rellee” Hayden of New York‟s A Team Music luminously execute Etana‟s vision.
Her first album for VP Records “The Strong One” was released in 2008 was a hit and “Free
Expressions”, including her deeply emotional rendering on “Free”, broadened her fan base.
First included on VP‟s Reggae Gold 2012 collection and as the title track to Etana‟s digital three-
song EP, the song captured the fans, which cause her to earn overwhelming responses fromaudiences who readily sing along.
This album, Better To marrow will be available from all good record stores from August 17 and
Cds will be on sale at the launching of the album.
Proceeds will go in aid of the homeless in Montego Bay

BIOGRAPHY
Shauna Mckenzie AKA Etana, was born in august Town, Kingston Jamaica. She came from a
family that was mostly male and she shined as the only girl among her brothers.
From an early age Etana showed a great love for music.
Upon until 1992 she attended school in Jamaica, then migrated to Florida there she attended
college and pursued a Nursing Degree.
While attending college her passion for music grew deeper.
She was especially interested in an innovative blend of music from artiste such as Bob Marley,
Marcia Griffiths, Sizzla Kalongi and R&B singers, such as Whitney Houston, Lauren Hill and
Jill Scott among others who influenced her love for music.
Etana took on many tasks before she became a solo artiste. She gained a slot in the group „GIFT‟
which was a brainchild of Universal Records.
With such great talent Etana “The Strong One”, emerged as one of reggae music newest faces
with a voice that is flawless and full of soul.
In addition of being a singer Etana also wore the hat of a songwriter. She has completely won the
hearts of the people with her captivating voice doing one song at a time. She never fails to
motivate and inspire her audience.
Even though she has a unique voice, her dislike for dressing in provocative attire led to her fate
in “GIFT”, where she walked away from music completely and return to Jamaica to open a
business here.
Because of her passion for music she became a backup singer for Richie Spice in 2005 where she
performed in Los Angeles. With such melodious voice she eventually spent a year singing with
Richie Spice. She thoroughly enjoyed herself travelling with Richie Spice as she stated that she
really love the energy of Richie Spice and the band.
She started creating a buzz as a background vocalist so much that 5th

encourages her to make a solo record.
It took a while for her to create two songs namely „time” and “wrong address”. Her quest for
singing conscious music was fueled by a young lady who recited lyrics from one of her more
racy songs. Etana utilizes her energy in singing conscious music to uplift, educate and strengthen
people.

“I always knew that a solo career was in my future,” says Etana when reflecting on her path. “I
needed to deliver music that was straight from the heart, straight from the soul and straight to the
people.”
The song that formally introduced Etana to the massive in 2006 was “Wrong Address”. That
single which is a thought-evoking and spirited single brought a fusion of jazz and reggae to the
airwaves. The song received an overwhelming reception from reggae music fans, which resulting
in this song being played on the radio in Jamaica and throughout the Caribbean.
“Wrong Address” captured the number one on some reggae music charts.
While basking in the success of her first single, she delivered another major hit called “Roots”,
with the line “you can‟t water down and dilute” which brought the song to instant popularity.
Etana also created great videos for these singles. She continues to excel in the music industry by
releasing songs like “Warrior Love”,” I am not Afraid”, “Blessings”(ft. Alborosie), “Free” and
many others which strengthened her position in reggae music.
Driven for success, Etana took great pride in delivering conscious reggae music that captivates
the heart of the people.
In 2008, her musical effort was centralized on her number 1 record and namesake album “The
Strong One” on VP Records.
With loads of dynamic musics, fans and critics adored that song so much that the album “The
Strong One” and Etana have won numerous awards over the past couple of years.
In 2009, she copped the Album of the Year” at the International Reggae and World Music
Awards (IRAWMA) in New York for her debut effort and at the Excellence in music and
Entertainment Awards(EME), with other accolades.
She was given the opportunity to perform locally and throughout the world including a live
performance in 2009 at the Arts Festival in Johannesburg South Africa.
Because of such splendid performance, the soulful songstress was specially selected by the
Governments of Jamaica and South Africa.
She also reached other milestones and other high profile music festivals such as Reggae Sumfest,
Irie Jamboree and the Soul Beach Music Festival in Aruba, where she shared the stage with other
performers such as Jamie Foxx, Common and Robin Thicke.
“August Town” which is one of her latest single, which tells of real life, and recent situations
that took place in her community is seen by fans as a thought provoking song.

This song was launched in February 2011. “August Town” and other songs such as “Free” and
“Happy Heart” were concurrently burning up the airwaves and music charts.
Her team consists of renowned music events promoter Junior “Heavy-D” Fraser, Connect PR in
addition to Free Mind Music.
Her desires are to formalize her youth involvement in the future with a youth driven foundation
centered on the themes of education and empowerment.
