The present case study, which has been mandatedand funded by the Federal German Ministry for theEnvironment, Nature Conservation and NuclearSafety, includes conclusions and recommendationsfor the development of sustainable tourism andvisitor management in the sovereign indigenousterritory of Kuna Yala in the Republic of Panama.

This critical section of the Mesoamerican BiologicalCorridor contains various vulnerable marine andterrestrial ecosystems, a tremendous wealth ofbiological diversity and is home to the Kuna people.I hope that the results will be useful for the Kuna inthe further planning of visitor management andsustainable use strategies, and that they willfacilitate the process of the internationalimplementation of the CBD Guidelines on BiologicalDiversity and Tourism Development.

El actual caso de estudio, que ha sido asignado yfinanciado por el Ministerio Federal de MedioAmbiente, Proteccin de la Naturaleza y SeguridadNuclear de la Repblica Federal de Alemania,incluye conclusiones y recomendaciones para eldesarrollo del turismo sostenible y manejo devisitantes en el territorio soberano de Kuna Yala en

la Repblica de Panam. Cabe destacar que KunaYala forma parte crtica del Corredor BiolgicoMesoamericano, que contiene varios ecosistemasmarinos, costeros y terrestres vulnerables, unaenorme abundancia de diversidad biolgica y es elhogar de los Kuna.

Espero que los resultados sean tiles en sus futurosplaneamientos del manejo de visitantes y estrategiasdel uso sostenible y que facilitarn el proceso de laimplementacin internacional de las Directricespara el Desarrollo del Turismo Sostenible del

Convenio sobre la Diversidad Biolgica.
