Dear Parents and Carers,Thank you for your interest in Bingley Grammar School and for taking the time to read our prospectus. We are very proud of our school community and, as a brochure can only give you a limited impression of our school, I urge you to visit us to see for yourself the outstanding educational opportunities that we provide. As a parent you naturally want the very best for your son or daughter and choosing the right school is one of the most important decisions you will ever need to make with them. You want them to be happy and successful, so you need to feel confident that Bingley Grammar School will provide an environment where this will be achieved. I can assure you that it will.

Bingley Grammar School is a thriving and dynamic school, rooted in a rich history but looking to the future with eagerness. Our purpose is to prepare students for the next stage of their lives which will be characterised by rapid change be it in work or in Higher Education. The school prides itself on being part of the wider Bingley community and students are encouraged to participate fully in the life of the school and to be active in the community.

At Bingley Grammar School we educate students to become successful individuals who will play a valuable part as future citizens. We do this by offering a nurturing environment that mixes the best of traditional values with an exciting curriculum for the 21st Century. We are a “can do” community where we aspire for excellence in everything we do. Our students are confident, enthusiastic and enjoy learning because we celebrate their successes and recognise their individual talents. However, education is a partnership and we need parents’ support in encouraging your son or daughter to aim high and give of their best, to make them believe in their enormous potential.

Our buildings may not be the newest but it is not the buildings nor our facilities that make us special, but our desire to keep on improving. Our most valuable assets are the strong bonds that exist between our students, staff and parents. Without these no school can expect pupils to truly succeed.

I am very proud to be the Headteacher of Bingley Grammar School and I look forward to welcoming you and your sons and daughters to our school.

Mr Luke Weston

Led by The Student Learning Team, the quality and development of teaching and learning is of the utmost importance at Bingley Grammar School. Our staff are committed to providing the best opportunities for your children to achieve and succeed during their time with us. We strive to provide the best quality learning experiences for each and every one of our students, whilst acknowledging and celebrating their individual needs and the diversity of our school community.

Our role is to equip your children for their futures by working in partnership with our students and their families to achieve the best possible outcomes. Whilst examination results are an essential part of these outcomes, we also work to develop other skills through our dedicated LIFE! tutorial programme, theme days and House

based activities. We recognise that students need an increasingly complex set of skills for their future lives and endeavour to provide opportunities and activities to develop well rounded, confident and independent learners.

As a staff, we recognise that we are also learners. Our staff CPD Monday sessions allow us to share outstanding teaching and learning. In addition to this, work from our Bingley Learning Team serves to ensure that we keep moving forward and continually develop what happens in our classrooms with our students, making optimum use of new technologies and approaches.

The Student Support Team is responsible for student well-being, ensuring that barriers to learning are addressed and removed. The team’s remit includes behaviour management, student safety and well-being and attendance. We are responsible for students with special educational needs, gifted and talented students and those students who may need support to realise their potential. We work to ensure that all students receive the support and guidance they need to do their very best at Bingley Grammar School.

The team manages the 3Cs rewards and sanction model. We believe that students respond to supportive behaviour dialogues and with guidance will make the right choice. The team includes the school’s SEN staff, Heads of Years, school mentors and counsellors, attendance staff, Behaviour Managers and Student Support Officers. The team also works with a wide variety of external agencies including other schools and healthcare providers. We work closely with the Safer Schools Partnership Police Officers in responding to student and community needs.

It is crucial to make sure that each and every student follows the curriculum that best suits their needs. Here at Bingley we pride ourselves on putting the student first, whether starting out in Year 7 or following an “A level programme” in the Sixth Form. Our track record of offering a broad and balanced curriculum that is both imaginative and highly personalised is something that we take very seriously.

Using school wide data to effectively track and monitor progress is vital to enable students to maximise their true potential. Accurate and timely information regarding attainment and progress of all students is critical. Students and their parents who know where they stand, who know what they need to do to improve, will achieve the most.

Finally any school experience is greatly enhanced life beyond the classroom. Every student at Bingley Grammar School will have literally hundreds of different extra-curricular activities to choose from. Meanwhile opportunities for school trips and visits whether local, national or even international are numerous.
