Machine Direction (MD) The direction in a machine-made abric, parallel to the direction o motion o the material through the processing machine i.e. along the length o the roll. Cross Machine direction (XMD) The direction in a machine made abric, perpendicular to the direction o motion o the material through the processing machine i.e. across the width o the roll. Typical Value A typical value is the arithmetic mean o a set o results, see diagram below . This implies that 50% o the tested specimens will typically exceed this value and 50% will typically not meet this value. Minimum Average Roll Values (MARV) MARV is a statistical derivation or any distribution o data. It is defned as the mean or typical value less 2 standard deviations, (reer to diagram below).
