MADNESSEXCLUSIVEINTERVIEW

In March 2008 - less than three months af-ter his album was re-

leased, Hummy received the award for ‘Best Newcomer’ at the prestigious B4U UK Asian Music Awards (AMAs). The re-lease of H’s first s i n g l e S a d k e Java was a summer hit for 2007. It featured Rishi Rish’s unique trademark beats

and with such fresh vocals, the single was an instant hit. Fans were also delighted to see the slick, glossy pro-duction of the video and it was later voted ‘Best Vid-eo’ by ZEE TV viewers.

With a magnetic stage presence, Hum-my has left a blaz-ing trail, spreading not only his name but also his charm. The boy who once shad-

owed his father is now un-doubtedly living the dream.

H ummy, real name Harmeet was born and raised in Birmingham. Hummy began training to be a vocalist under

the tuition of Sukhjit Singh Olk, aka Tru-Skool.

Coming from a family oriented background, Hummy’s traditional upbringing in a Panjabi household enabled him to maintain a deep connection with his roots and have the ability to speak impeccable Pan-jabi - a rare quality in most UK born Panjabi’s and many vocalists alike. Hummy in a number of cases has been mistaken for being born and raised in Panjab.

Although these days it may sound cliché, Hummy’s influences include the greats such as Kuldip Manak, Surinder Shinda, Sardool Sikander, Chamkila and Mohd. Saddiq.Hummy aspires to progress in this field to sing like his UK inspirations such as Jazzy B, Bhinda Jatt, Avtar Maniac, Meshi, Balwinder Safri and Dippa Dosanjh, the quality of Hum-my’s vocals demonstrate this.

Aside from his association with Tru-Sk-ool, Hummy, since 2003 has been learning the

art of classical singing under the guidance of Pritam Singh, a revered professional of his craft and a world class Tabla player. Hummy’s further-ance into the world of classical mu-sic has been inspired by the greats such as Mohd. Rafi, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Ghulam Ali.

Hummy will continue in the live cir-cuit and a debut album is currently

being prepared for release by VIP Records, with Hummy provid-ing all vocals and even showcasing his ability as a song-writer.
