SUBJECT: MATHEMATICS
TOPIC: MYSTERY MATHEMATICS
DESCRIPTION: Area and Perimeter are two important and fundamental mathematical topics. They help
you to quantify physical space and also provide a foundation for more advanced mathematics found in
algebra, trigonometry, and calculus. Also Planning the space available is equally important as “ A good plan is like a road map : it shows the final destination and usually the best way to get there.”
METHODOLOGY: Students are required to do the following tasks:
WHERE TO DO : A-4 SIZE RULED SHEET
TASK I (Sheet 1): WHAT IS AN ANIMAL SANCTUARY?: An animal sanctuary is a facility where
animals are brought to live and to be protected for the rest of their lives. Unlike animal shelters, sanctuaries
do not seek to place animals with individuals or groups, instead maintaining each animal until their natural
death (either from disease or from other animals in the sanctuary).
So, Design an Animal Sanctuary.
And “When naming is done well — be it for a business, a brand, a product, or anything — it paves the way
for a good impression, enticing the listener or reader to come in closer. But when naming goes wrong, it can
become the hook upon which the world hangs its grievances.” So, now it's your turn to Name your Animal
Sanctuary .
TASK II: (SHEET 2) LEARNING BY DOING: Place the following:
There will be 8 animals to house in the Sanctuary.
Each animal will need a separate cage.
Each cage will have an area of 12 square metres.
Each cage must be a different shape and at least 5 must be compound shapes.
Use a scale of 1 cm to 1 m.
Label which cage is for which animal and draw the animal
The floor material for the cages costs Rs 5,000 per square metre
The fencing of the cages will cost Rs 2,000 per metre.
Calculate the area and cost for each cage along with the fencing.
TASK III: (SHEET 3) OTHER THINGS TO ADD:
Path around will cost Rs 1,000 per square metre
- Signboards will cost Rs 500
- Car Parking will cost Rs 500 per square metre to gravel
- Trees cost Rs 250 each
- Toilets will cost Rs 70,000
- Canteen will cost Rs 2,50,000
You could add other things
Your budget is Rs 25,00,000.
Please keep within the budget!
Calculate the area and cost for other things that you are adding.
Also calculate the money left from your budget after each expenditure.
You have to use the entire budget.
TASK IV: (SHEET 4) RESEARCH WORK : Research is a powerful part of the educational
experience. When you have a proper in-depth analysis of any topic, the result comes out to be fruitful and
also the knowledge is enhanced.
Research on any one Animal Sanctuary.
Make a detailed analysis on how an animal Sanctuary works and what all facilities are provided there.
Include more things that you have seen in a real Animal Sanctuary into your animal sanctuary and
add its cost into your Expenditure.
Estimate how much your budget will increase after adding those facilities.
TASK V: (SHEET 5) FUTURE ANALYSIS : Estimate the running cost of the animal sanctuary that
you will invest for the functioning of the animal sanctuary for a year.
Like include the cost of feeding animals,
maintenance of the sanctuary etc.
TASK VI: PRESENTATION SKILL: presentation skills are important to communicate
more effectively so that the message is broadcast
meaningfully in the mind of people and target
readers/audience/viewers and customers.
TOPIC: Be A Researcher
DESCRIPTION: Research is a powerful part of the educational experience. When you have a proper in-
depth analysis of any topic, the result comes out to be fruitful and also the knowledge is
enhanced.Continuing math research is important because it trains you to think abstractly and to have a
skeptical mindset. The main purposes of research are to inform action, gather evidence , and contribute to
developing knowledge in a field of study.” So Let’s be a Researcher .
METHODOLOGY: Students are required to do the following tasks:
WHERE TO DO : A-4 SIZE RULED SHEET
TASK I: (SHEET 1) LEARNING NEW TERMS: Do some research on any one of the following:
- Golden Ratio
-Fractals
Explain your findings along with examples. Also explain the importance of the respective term in
Mathematics.
TASK II: (SHEET 2): LEARNING BY DOING :
Draw 1 fractal or golden ration that you see in your surroundings.
TASK III (SHEET 3): RESEARCH WORK :
Research about how Fractals/Golden Ratio are related to Architecture.
Give detailed analysis on the above with examples.
TASK IV: Representation Skills:
Design an architectural structure to introduce Fractals or Golden Ratio to everyone.
(Compulsory Activity)
TOPIC: MATH -A-MAGIC
DESCRIPTION: People of all ages love to play games that are fun and motivating. Games give
opportunities to explore fundamental concepts, such as the counting sequence, one-to-one correspondence,
and computation strategies. Engaging mathematical games can also encourage students to explore number
combinations, place value, patterns, and other important mathematical concepts.
Games motivate them to find creative solutions
and take an active part in accelerating their own
learning.
METHODOLOGY: Students are required to do
the following tasks:
TASK I: (SHEET 1) EXPLORE : Think different Games that
you can make using the terms:
Integers
Fractions
Decimal
Represent at least 3 games including these terms that you can
play with your family.
-Integers
-Fractions
-Decimal
That you can play with your family members.
List all the rules that need to be followed to play the game.
CREATIVE (ART-INTEGRATED) WORK
TOPIC: Balance Act
DESCRIPTION: A mathematical statement that has an equal to the "=" symbol is called an equation.
Linear equations are equations of degree 1.
A linear equation is a particularly important concept in algebra and one that causes confusion for
students. To learn the topic of solving linear equations with one variable, students struggle to balance
conceptual and procedural knowledge.
So Let’s learn this with the help of balancing equations.
Students will take 5 simple Linear Equations (e.g 2x + 4= 10) and will show the balance of the
equation with the help of objects/items available to them (buttons, coins ,bindi etc.). They can also
draw different figures to represent different variables of the equation.
POINTS TO REMEMBER: Don’t forget to mention the objects/items that are used to represent a particular variable in an equation. Express at least five equations.
RESEARCH WORK: Explore new ways to represent linear equations.
Present two new ways representing linear equations.
MATERIAL REQUIRED: Use an A4 size sheet (Any light color + plain).
Buttons ,coins , bindi or any other object/item easily available to represent terms in the equations.
Use different objects/items to represent different variables of the equations.
OR
TOPIC: Fun with Volume
DESCRIPTION: Geometry makes more sense when kids can hold math in their hands. Volume is the measurement of space occupied in three dimensions. In this activity, compare the volume of
the container with the volume of its contents to calculate how much each can hold.
Make models to show the volume of cube and cuboid by filling cubes inside the shape. And derive the
formula for volume of cube and cuboid.
POINTS TO REMEMBER: Don’t Forget to make different containers for both cubes and cuboids. Use different colours and make it as attractive as you can.
OR
show decimals.
POINTS TO REMEMBER: Decimal wheel should represent all the points.
Decimal wheel should be rotating
Be creative.
