    WORKING CHURCHES

The Missionary Ministry of Bethel hosts the Working Churches of Westchester and Vicinity meeting each year for the month of February. After the meeting, the ministry is responsible for some type of program or presentation to celebrate Black History Month.

This year, our program Chairperson was Sister Barbara Andralliski. She and her committee planned an excit-ing program based on the theme: “WHO AM I?” Participants were: Sister Pam Coleman – represented Re-becca Lee Crumpler; Sister Jessie Tate – represented Dr. Patricia Bath; Sister Sheryl Franklin – represented – Thurgood Marshall; Sister Barbara Andralliski – represented Hattie McDaniel; and Sister Esther Johnson – represented Mahalia Jackson. The presentation was filled with audience participation that brought excitement to the whole afternoon. Each person who guessed the name of the famous person was given a gift. At the end of the presentation, Mr. Joe Mosley unwrapped the gift of song and presented our Black History in a musi-cal format. His presentation was also interactive. It was a time of singing, clapping and reminiscing about who we are and from whence we have come.

    “…We have come Over a way that with tears has been watered;

    We have come Treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered;

We are more than grateful to Sister Andralliski and her committee for an outstand-ing and informative Black History program. Sister Susan Harrison was also a part of this committee, however, she was unable to attend because of illness.

The meal that followed the program was absolutely de-li-cious!! To Sister Geneva Benton and the Culinary Ministry, another job well done! Our guests enjoyed the program and especially the meal which was reflec-tive of our heritage. Submitted by: Dr. Frozine Reece-Smith

    CONGRESS of CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

The Congress of Christian Education Auxiliary to the Empire Baptist Missionary Convention of New York, Inc. sponsored the 88th Annual One-Day Retreat on Monday, February 17, 2020 in Saratoga Springs, New York. Excitement was in the air before 6:00 a.m. that morn-ing because that was the time we boarded the bus in front of Bethel Baptist Church to com-mence our trip.

Most of us, on board the bus, decided to get in the sleep we lost from arising earlier just to make the trip. We had parishioners from Calvary Baptist and Star of Bethlehem traveling with us to Saratoga Springs. The bus was full. It was a gorgeous day for traveling. We ar-rived on time for the day’s activities. Classes began at 10:00 a.m. after the General Assem-bly.

The theme: “Building Healthy Churches in The 21st Century” (Acts 11:19-26, Romans 12:1-5, 1 Corinthians 12:4-12, 1 Timothy 4:6-8) was carried out throughout the day in the various divisions and classes. Bethel was well-represented in more than five divisions of the Christian Education classes. The children’s classes were held at the Holiday Inn and the Saratoga Catholic Central High School.

Our Superintendent, Sister Stephanie Christian, was responsible for all Bethel members in attendance. We are grateful to her for se-curing our transportation and all other plans executed for a successful day.

The closing worship service was scheduled from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. James R. Banks, II, Congress President presiding. Our own Pastor, Dr. Edward O. Williamson, serves as Dean and State Director. Rev. Dr. Johnny Ray Youngblood, Pastor of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York, brought the closing message. We left the Convention Center better than when we arrived. We thank God for a safe trip to Saratoga Springs, New York and back home to White Plains, New York! “TO GOD BE THE GLORY!” Submitted by: Dr. Frozine Reece- Smith

  • THESE WOMEN ARE NOT BEHIND BARS BUT ARE IN PRISON!!

Kairos Outside NYC, chartered in 2009, is the local chapter of Kairos Prison Ministry International. Mass Incarcera-

tion, is defined and described in the New Jim Crow. From 1970 to 2005 the number of inmates increased 700%. The

U.S. has the highest incarceration rate in the world. This Ministry is designed for women impacted by incarceration.

Someone in their life is or was in prison. In many ways the families are “doing time” right along with the incarcerated.

This ministry is also designed for women that were previously incarcerated.

JoAnne Edwards, Sharon Gilham, Yvonne Harris, Crystal Murray, Janice Robinson, Dr. Frozine Reece-Smith, and Stephanie Ward

are members of Bethel Baptist Church and this Ministry. Each year Kairos Outside NYC offers two Weekends (Friday-Sunday) for

women. These women referred to as “Guests” have an opportunity to get to know others that share similar concerns. The goal of

this ministry is to provide a loving, supportive environment, while addressing Guest’s spiritual needs. A Team is developed that

prepares for Guests and the upcoming Weekend. In order to form a Team, these Kairos volunteers meet for six Saturdays from

10am-4pm. That Team will carry out the next Kairos Weekend, scheduled to take place May 15-17, 2020.

Bethel Baptist Church members helped to make a memorable experience for Guests that attended the November Weekend. Pastor

Williamson, Wallace McIver, Henry Mills, Lloyd Scrub, Leonard Hadley, David Coleman and Leonard Johnson immensely helped

this ministry by loading and unloading Kairos supplies. Kairos refers to those that assist and volunteer their time as Angels.

It cost approximately $15,000 to carry out these Weekends. ALL expenses are covered by donations, Guests do not pay a fee. If you

would like to make a monetary donation… please speak to Pastor Williamson or one of the members mentioned above. Donations

can also be made to: Kairos Outside NY C, P.O. Box One, Larchmont, N.Y . 10538. Website: www.kairosoutsidenyc.org / kon-

[email protected]. If you would like to participate in this Kairos Ministry, in any way please speak with Pastor Williamson or

    Missionaries “On The Move”!

As always, February is the month that is short but full of activity for African Americans. The

Missionary Ministry gathered on the first Sunday (February 2), after service, for their group pic-

ture for the Pictorial Directory of Bethel. Since we are a rather large ministry, it was heart-

warming to see everyone put forth the effort to wear or bring the official missionary ministry

attire. We were thrilled to have Sister Evelyn Hudson join us for the picture. She has not been

able to participate on a regular basis because of her illness. Also, with us was Sister Certulia

Brice who has just recuperated from a recent illness. We thank God for their presence, as well

as all other missionary members. Submitted by: Dr. Frozine Reece-Smith
