Mitchell Cattle Co. has invested in the health of their herd of cattle for many years through a comprehensive herd health strategy. Currentlyall breeding females and bulls receive an annual vaccination prior to the breeding season to protect against all the important reproductiveviruses and bacteria including IBR, Type I and II BVD and Leptosprirosis. All calves are vaccinated at branding to provide protectionagainst the important viruses and bacteria causing respiratory and clostridial diseases. Currently calves receive a modified live vaccineagainst IBR, Type I and II BVD, BRSV, and PI3, as well as a modified live bacterin against shipping fever and a killed bacterin againstHistophilus somnus, Blackleg and other clostridial diseases. At weaning all bull and heifer calves receive a booster with the same vaccinesand bacterins used at branding.

In late fall, all cows, bulls and weaned calves are treated with a topical endectocide to control internal and external parasites. As a furtherassurance of herd health, all MCC bulls in the sale have been tested and found negative for persistent infection of the BVD virus.

All bulls in the sale have passed a thorough breeding soundness exam to evaluate scrotal size and shape, semen motility and morphology, andstructural soundness. Through my long standing veterinary relationship with Mitchell Cattle Co., I also know that you can rest assured thateach bull is out of a sound, solid, productive cow. Ian and Anja rigorously select their herd for fertility, sound udders, correct feet and legs,and temperament. These cows go to the mountain with their calf each year and come back in the fall for pregnancy testing. Open and latecows, or cows not meeting Mitchell Cattle Co strict criteria, are culled – no excuses, no exceptions.

The bulls are ready to come to town! Welcome to the 4th annual Best Bet Bull sale. It is our pleasure to invite you to share theday with us. With a tinge of optimism rippling through the cattle industry it looks as though the admirable stubborn tenacityand perseverance of those in the business may finally see reward for their dedicationFor more than 40 years we have been raising Simmental cattle here and as usual we continue to raise them in a similarenvironment to that of our customers. Our cattle travel 40 miles from home in the summer and climb to 7500 feet in elevation.You will notice the weaning dates on the bulls are not until the end of October; this is when the snow or the wolves, as has beenthe case recently, drives the cattle out of the alpine. EVERY cow here has taken a calf to the range every year and come hometo be in calf to our short breeding season. We strive to produce cattle that are trouble free and efficient. We pursue carcassexcellence through ultrasound testing and our own carcass program. These cattle are not pampered, it is difficult to find themfrom May until October never mind creep feed them. We grow the bulls over winter to be ready to work for you, not to beready for slaughter.We are bringing to town a very strong offering with bulls in everybody’s type and price range. Once again we have a super setof black bulls to lead off the offering, I believe that there are bulls here that can excel in any situation that you may have. Thered Simmentals and hybrids are solid from end to end and there is a good mix of red Angus bulls for heifers or cows. All of thebulls are backed by our time tested guarantee. These 66S calves really have a lot of get up and go. This blazed faced bull will mark those

British cows with a bit of that exotic look that is so in demand. Weaning at 1001 pounds he is

long, sound, big butted and mellow he wonít be hard to find sale day.

Out of a Canadian pedigreed straight Angus cow with a perfect udder, this is as good a black

hybrid as you will find on the road this spring. He is a twin but that didn’t slow him down, tidyup front but lots of volume all the way back.

This is likely a bull that should have stayed home. His super moderate big volume dam has

raised a herd bull that we used here as well as many daughters - one of them is the dam of

lot 21. Here is a mid-March calf weaning in just shy of 900 pounds. He ranked #1 for

weaning and yearling weights and is still in the top 15% of the breed for calving ease.

Out of a heifer that did a heck of a job first time out, weaning in at 834. He is clean

fronted and smooth. From 88T who was magic on heifers.

guy should add some length and scale.

107 is Leanna’s bull calf that she showed very successfully alongside his dam in 4H this fall.She won in Barriere and had the Reserve Champion pair at the Provincial Winter Fair in

Kamloops. This big guy didn’t see any wolves and had a little extra feed starting in Augustbut still looked pretty damn big weighing 1024 standing alongside his 1400 lb 2 year old dam.

A big long dark cherry red, blaze faced 88T, just a March baby but lots of top and lots of

grow. His grand dam is the dam of lot 5 and she is a maternal sister to the sire of the next 4

Another 88T who we used on many of our Simmental heifers. This is a low birth weight bull

with lots of frame out of a first calf heifer.

Very well put together. This thick made easy fleshing 12T is out of a beautiful young cow

that raised a heck of a good bull selling in last year’s sale. She had a bright future ahead ofher but unfortunately, she bloated the day she weaned this 895 lb brute.

A moderate calving ease 12T. 81S had a son sell to Brian Watt of Barriere that he used

successfully on his heifers. Look past the fact this bull is a little behind the others, he was separated from his dam early

on the range. His productive dam has a beautiful udder.

Dark red and style to burn this calf is clean fronted with tons of length and lots of hip. He

has some birth weight but is built to calve well.

223P has had a bull calf in every sale wit sons going to KK Ranch, Gordon Hudson and

Robert Bach. Unfortunately we lost her this spring to hardware disease and her calf was set

back some; but don’t be fooled; he is a sleeper.

This is a larger made blaze faced bull out of a never miss cow with a perfect udder. He is a

twin to lot 28 raised on his dam.

Twin to lot 27. These twins went to the range on their dam; this one came home on his own

so he is a little behind, but check out his brother to see where he will wind up. A red 103U calf out of two black parents. Use him with confidence on red or black cows; he

is a non-diluter so he won’t throw any greys. Plenty of power here, he is complete.

Genetically identical to lot 29 with the same pattern only a smaller version, their dams are

flush mates. Also a non-diluter out of two black parents. Wide topped and wide based 180X is out of a

you are looking for a trouble free hybrid to add that little extra look no farther.

Out of a 66S dam this hybrid has a little more frame but lots of style and substance. If you

Looking for a herd bull? A 23S son; 57X has above average EPD’s for birth weight, yearlingweight, milk, total maternal, calving ease and maternal calving ease. He has the heaviest

actual weaning of all the Angus bulls, well put together with lots of hair and big testicles.

A stout made bull out of a thick moderate no fuss female with a great udder. Beefmaker

23S has been our bombproof calving ease bull for years, he calves as well as any Angus bull

we have used, and still maintains good performance. 23S has above average EPD’s in 11 of 14categories.

This is a bigger framed super clean fronted 23S son. If you want to stretch those calves out

and put on some strong tops he’s your bull.

Check out 192X he has the herd bull presence; just a late February calf but weaned in at 866

pounds. He hasnít quit there, he weighed better than 1200 well before his first birthday.

Some very good old time genetics on the bottom side of this pedigree. He possesses a lot of

natural meat and muscle. With a 13 year old dam he should have some built in longevity.

You will admire the meat this fellow carries not only in his top but also through his hip and

enough performance to use on cows as well.Suggested for use on heifers. Sired by Tom Boy and out of an 11 yr. old Fame cow, this bull

has some very predictable genetics. 90X is a flat shouldered bull with good neck extension

and should work very well in the heifer pen.

Very powerful bull with good weaning and yearling indexes. With his extra substance he isthe type that will handle a lot of cows. 95X is good footed and has a very attractive headand a special presence about him.

Definite herd bull prospect. The dam, 10L has given us a bull calf every year and they havealways been at the top of the pen. Two of her sons have sold to Gumbo Gulch Cattle Co. ofDawson Creek, one being a full brother to 93X. We showed 93X at three summer shows in2010 where he was calf champion twice and reserve calf champion once. Quite an accomplishment as these were large classes judged by very astute cattlemen.

Mellow and moderate; 91X is a little younger being a mid-March calf but donít count him out.He is well balanced, has a great disposition and should calve very well.
