At BeSafe we have called it “Scandinavian Safety” for a very long time. Our advantage lies in our core values of safety, quality and design. The training and education of distributors and dealers working with BeSafe is also something on which we place great emphasis so that we can offer you the best expertise. We are passionately interested in design and functionality. Each and every detail needs to be ergonomically designed so that you and your child will have a comfortable journey. Our product development is highly focused on safety, which is continuously resulting in new BeSafe products being launched featuring innovative patents and functions for enhanced safety. We have re-designed the pregnancy belt, simplified the installation and modified it, so that it fits to the ISOfix anchorage points in the vehicle. Back in the 1960s medical traffic researchers in Sweden discovered the advantages of having small children sitting rear facing in a collision. Consequently there are no

forward facing car seats for children under the age of 3 on the Swedish market and this reflects very well on Sweden which has the lowest accident injury statistics in Europe! Small children are not miniature versions of adults. Their heads are disproportionately heavy, their backs and neck are under-developed and their reflexes and ability to react are poor. If a child is sitting forward facing in a collision their head will be thrown violently for-wards, subjecting the neck and head to considerable strain. The child also risks injuries from impact with the front seats. If the child’s seat is rear facing, the shell of the seat will form a protective shield and absorb the shock. Crash tests show that compared to forward facing seats, the pressure exerted on the neck is 5 times lower for rear facing child car seats. These are the reasons why all baby seats (group 0+) are only designed for rear facing use. BeSafe recommends that children should sit in rear facing child seats for as long as practically possible. The international consumer authorities, the ICRT, have the same recommendation.

Test winnersBeSafe places top priority on safety. Our child car seats are subjected to extreme testing to ensure that children are

provided with the best possible protection in the real world. We are proud to confirm that BeSafe products are often ‘Best in test’. However what is more important for us is to be confident that we are making the safest car seats possible.

At BeSafe safety is always our main priority. This is why we actually test all our products beyond the standards, so that they protect your child as thoroughly as possible in daily life. In 2011 four of our BeSafe child car seats were test winners or best in their respective classes, something which is quite exceptional!

Explaining tests and approvals:

Stiftung Warentest is the consumer council in Germany. It administers and conducts tests on behalf of the International Consumer Research and Testing organization, ICRT. Stiftung Warentest conducts its own tests in collaboration with ADAC. These tests are conducted using frontal collisions at a speed of 64 km per hour and side collisions, while ECE R44 only tests frontal and rear collisions.

ADAC is an organization representing the interests of car owners in Germany which organizes tests of child car seats. The tests conducted are approx. 50% more stringent or stipulate stricter requirements than the ECE R4404 standards. In these tests 50% of the emphasis is on collision results and 50% relates to user friendliness, comfort, instructions for use and installation methods, etc. The lower the final score the better in this test. Frontal and side collisions are included. This is particularly important, because children often sustain much more serious injuries in side collisions than in frontal collisions.

Plus testThe VTI and NTF introduced the Plus Test in Sweden in 2009. This test provides a stamp of quality for seats that are so good that they are recommended in Sweden. The Plus Test has such strict requirements that forward facing child car seats would not be able to comply with them. The thinking behind the test is that no children sitting in a child car seat which is Plus Test approved would sustain any serious/life-threatening injuries in a collision.

The Consumer ReportEuropean consumer organizations are members of ICRT and do publish their own test report. However, these reports are copies of the Stiftung Warentest and ADAC Tests, but published in another lay-out. For example, WHICH? in the UK.

ECE R44 04 is a European approval standard. Child car seats are tested in frontal collisions at 50 km/h and rear collisions at 30 km/h using crash test dummies and measuring instruments designed to see how well the seats protect the test dummies. All child car seats currently being sold in Norway and across Europe must be ECE R44 03 or ECE R44 04 approved.

Crash testToday all children are secured in a child car seat. But what about the foetus when you are pregnant, is it sufficiently secured? On the first picture (under this text) you see an image without belt guiding. The hip belt tightens over the stomach and the foetus can be exposed to huge forces in the collision. In picture two the mother uses Besafe Pregnant iZi fix, which is designed to keep the hip belt correctly on the hips. Besafe Pregnant iZi FIX has been tested for your safety.
