The Berkshires, rich in history, outdoor activities, cultural events, and stunning natural beauty, is comprised of 32 cities and towns in Western Massachusetts: Adams, Alford, Becket, Cheshire, Clarksburg, Dalton, Egremont, Florida, Great Barrington, Hancock, Hinsdale, Lanesborough, Lee, Lenox, Monterey, Mt. Washington, New Ashford, New Marlborough, North Adams, Otis, Peru, Pittsfield, Richmond, Sandisfield, Savoy, Sheffield, Stockbridge, Tyringham, Washington, West Stockbridge, Williamstown, and Windsor.
Lenox, dubbed "the inland Newport" in the 19th century, is a charming town tucked in a scenic area of the Berkshires. It is perhaps best known for Tanglewood, being the former residence of literary legend Edith Wharton, and the home to scores of Gilded Age mansions. Many of these mansions, or "Berkshire Cottages," have been maintained and restored and are host to many premier weddings and events. For this reason, Lenox is one of the most beautiful, year-round wedding destinations in the Northeast.
See you in the Berkshires! The Lenox Wedding Tour Committee

The Kemble Inn’s history spans three centuries, combining noteworthy historical architecture, modern designer class and capital-style contemporary American dining: the perfect venue for your wedding. Built in a walk-to-town location in the 1880’s by the family of then US Secretary of State Frederick Theodore Frelinghuysen, the new ownership on the inn since 2010 has extensively restored and renovated the mansion with contempo-rary furnishings and flair. Our spacious and welcoming public spaces include remarkable and memorable interior and exterior venues for your wedding. Chef Ron Reda, who led the culinary team at the Clinton White House in
this century, now heads the kitchen at Table Six Restaurant. The inn’s 13 guest rooms are all fitted with Ralph Lauren bedlinens, large Sony flat screen televisions, and free wi-fi. Most guest rooms are larger than 300 square feet. Half of the rooms have working fireplaces. For the lucky wedding couple there is a choice of two oversized suites with king size beds – one of which has a two person Jacuzzi bath beside a fireplace, the other boasts a two-person spa/steam walk-in shower. The inn serves an award-winning breakfast to all guests that has been recognized by the New York Times and the LA Times as the ‘best in the Berkshires.’

Set atop a pastoral knoll in the heart of the Berkshires, Wheatleigh combines the grandeur of a historic mansion with the intimacy of a country cottage. This idyllic setting was the site of many grand parties and musical events during the Gilded Age, and is now available to an exclusive few for a fairy-tale wedding or the social event of a lifetime. Just two-and-a-half hours by car from New York and Boston, there is no more romantic wedding destination than Wheatleigh.
Built as a “summer cottage” by Henry H. Cook in 1893 as a wedding gift for his daughter, Wheatleigh was designed by the renowned Boston architectural firm of Peabody and Stearns based on a 16th-century Florentine Palazzo. More than 150 artisans were brought from Italy to accomplish the intricate carvings on both the interior and exterior of the estate. Landscape architect Frederick Law Olmstead, best known for his design of Central Park in New York, was responsible for creating “Wheatleigh Park” on the surrounding acreage.

Host your wedding ceremony and recep-tion at the same location This cuts down on the amount of travel your guests will have to do from one location to another, reducing your carbon footprint.
Invest in eco-invites You can greatly reduce the impact your stationery has on our planet by choosing 100% recycled paper and plant-based inks. You can also create a postcard-style RSVP card, which uses less postage, and does not require an envelope, saving paper.
Use locally grown, seasonal, or organic flowers Select flowers native to your area and choose blooms that are in season. You can also use flowers that are organic, which are not treated with harsh pesticides.
Use soy or beeswax candles Soy and beeswax are both sustainable resources, and perfect alternatives to most candles you find on the market.
Incorporate recycled objects into your décor Gather found objects such as glass bottles, wooden containers, dishware, even
rocks, to create unforgettable table settings, centerpieces, and other arrangements.
Buy or borrow a used/vintage gown or suitWhether it be a consignment store find or a family heirloom, choosing secondhand attire is a great way to be green. You will conserve the many resources it takes to create, manu-facture, and ship a wedding garment.
Have your favors double as place cardsInstead of making a million of those little table seating cards, use your favors! You can also choose favors that are green, such as flower bulbs or seeds, small plants, or fruit.
Go local Anything that gets shipped in for your wedding adds to the energy used to produce or transport it. Talk to your venue or caterer about your options for locally sourced produce or meats in your area.
Donate! In lieu of favors, donate to a charity instead. You can also consider donating your flowers to a local hospital, nursing home, or hospice (check with your local institute’s policies first and pre-arrange the drop off).
So many pieces work together to make an impeccable event: décor, food, entertainment, the list goes on. Times have changed, we have changed, and our planet has changed, but there are many resources out there to help you pull off a "greener" event without sacrificing style.PHOTOGRAPH BY MICHELLE GIRARD PHOTOGRAPHY • ST YLING & TEXT BY EUTOPIA EVENTS
