Introduction GBOX-1-P Bench-top transparent glove box offers larger inert gas environmental workspace with vacuum air locker and side door. Two digital vacuum gauges indicate the pressure inside the main chamber and air-lock chamber superlatively. Three manual valves are installed for immediate use. Two solenoid valves are installed on the main chamber to implement the pressure auto-control. The Glove box is made of transparent polycarbonate providing a clear view from any angle. Polycarbonate construction affords resistance to a wide range of chemicals, high-impact strength and scratch-resistance and the smooth, hemispherical interior cleans easily. It is widely used for preparing nano-materials and battery electrode materials

Set up the pressure control in the main chamber controller

1. Press and hold the “SET” button for 5 seconds and the system will enter to the parameter setting menu.

First parameter in sight is “HIAL”. Then press “SET” button again and the screen displays the value of “HIAL”. Press “SET” to move on to display other parameters in the same way.

2. Press the “increase” and “decrease” button to change the value of each parameter. Press “Cursor” button to move the cursor among decimal, units, tens and hundreds. NOTE: The common used parameters are the [HIAL] and [LOAL]. [HIAL] is the upper limit alarm which defines the acceptable highest pressure inside the chamber. If the pressure is larger than the upper limit, the pressure controller will control the “Air out” solenoid value open and let the redundant gas flow out of the chamber. [LOAL]: is the lower limit which defines the acceptable lowest pressure inside the chamber. If the pressure is less than the lower limit, the pressure controller will control the “Air in” solenoid value open and let the supplementary gas flow into the chamber. Other parameters should not be change unless specific requirement. The definition of other parameters will be shown in the parameter chart below.

3. Press the “Cursor” and “SET” buttons simultaneously to save the modification and quit the parameter setting menu.

Working Principle

In operation, the pressure inside the glove box will change constantly by every act of our hands. So when the pressure inside the chamber increases (more than 101Kpa, the upper limit alarm) as compressing the gas inside the glove by our act, the “Air-outlet” solenoid valve will open to keep the pressure inside maintains the atmosphere. And when the pressure inside the chamber decreases ( less than 98Kpa, the lower limit alarm). The “Air-inlet” solenoid valve will open and allow the inert gas flowing into the chamber. Thus, this is the application of the pressure control system for people operating around a suitable inert gas environmental pressure inside the glove box.

Operation

Leakage Check 1. Place the glove box on a flat, clean and shake-proof table. 2. Open the main chamber door, air-lock chamber door and the partition door. 3. Wipe the rubber gasket by using the alcohol. 4. Close the main chamber door and the air-lock chamber door. Keep the partition door open.

5. Connect a vacuum pump to the manual valve in the air lock chamber. Do not use the vacuum pump which has a large throughput (more than 120L/min).

6. Observe the condition of the gloves and start the vacuum pump and the corresponding manual valve. Close the manual valve and stop pumping when the gloves are inflated into enough gas as the fig shown below.

Gloves are now inflated. 7. Wait for several hours (according to your operation) and then check the condition of the gloves to

determine if there is any significant leakage. 8. Release the vacuum. Let the pressure inside the chamber return back to atmosphere pressure. 9. Leakage check is finished. Now you can open the main chamber door and place the experimental

instruments and tools inside the main chamber. Then close the door. Gas purge 1. Main chamber door and airlock chamber door are closed. All the manual valves are closed. Only the

partition door is open. 2. Connect the vacuum pump to the manual valve of the air-lock chamber.

Air inlet solenoid valve

3. Set up the upper limit alarm to 101Kpa in the main chamber pressure controller. Set up the lower limit alarm to 95Kpa in the main chamber pressure controller.

4. Start the vacuum pump and open the corresponding manual valve. Observe the pressure inside the main chamber. When the pressure is less than 95Kpa the air inlet solenoid valve will open and allow supplementary gas flowing into the chamber to complement the pressure lost. Note: If the pressure keeps decreasing even the solenoid valve throughput of the vacuum pump is too large. Please either close the manual valve a little bit to adjust the throughput or change to another vacuum pump.

5. Now we can connect the inert gas supply to the glove box. First set up the pressure in the regulator of the gas supply to the 15~18psi. Open the valve of the gas supply. Then connect the gas pipe to the “Air-inlet? solenoid So the inert gas will flow into the chamber when the “Air-inlet? solenoid valve is open.

6. Keep circulating for 10 minutes or more. 7. Stop the vacuum pump and close its corresponding manual valve. The inert gas is continually supplied and

when the inside pressure is larger than 101Kpa (upper limit alarm) The “Air-outlet? solenoid valve will open. The redundant gas will flow out of the glove box.

8. Gas purge is finished. Then wear the gloves and close the partition door. Now you can do experiment inside the glove box.

Load and unload samples In operation, if you want to put more sample in the main chamber or take them out, we need to use the air-lock chamber as the transit depot. 1. Open the air-lock chamber door and put samples inside.

2. Close the air-lock chamber door. Connect the vacuum to the manual valve of the air-lock chamber. And do vacuuming. Stop the vacuum pump when the pressure inside the air-lock chamber is about 10Kpa (absolute pressure). Connect the gas supply to the other manual valve of the air-lock chamber and fill the inert gas into the chamber until the pressure returns back to atmosphere.

3. Wear the gloves of the glove box and open the partition door. 4. Take the samples out of the air-lock chamber and place them in the main chamber. 5. Close the partition door. 6. It is the same way to take the sample out of the glove box.

Maintenance

Please apply vacuum grease attached in the package to the rubber gasket and the valve seat before pumping to prevent the box from leaking.
