Dear Belleview Families,
Our annual Special Persons’ Day Lunches and Book Fair were huge successes
with more than 500 guests attending. The Café and Gym were overflowing
with grandparents and other family members as they dined and visited with our
students. Our school was filled with laughter, great conversations, and observa-
tions of the great learning happening for students at Belleview. Thanks to the
teachers and parent leaders for organizing this event from set up, to beautiful
décor, and support with Book Fair check out lines.
I am in awe of the level of support from our community in celebrating our
children. This partnership exemplifies the ―T‖ in our TRUST work-Teamwork.
One of my favorite quotes compliments the fabulous teamwork between par-
ents, community, and teachers at Belleview:
"Unity is strength. When there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things
can be achieved."- Mattie Stepanek
The Colorado Department of Education released School Ratings this month.
Although the School Ratings are based exclusively upon the CSAP results from
the previous school year, it remains the most consistent standard for Colorado
schools to monitor growth and areas for improvement. I am pleased to an-
nounce that Belleview has once again been recognized by the Colorado Depart-
ment of Education as a HIGH GROWTH, HIGH ACHIEVEMENT school and
we are accredited with Distinction. This means our students are making growth
gains higher than the average school across the state and are meeting levels of
proficiency above the state expectations.
The credit for this outstanding label of excellence belongs to the students and
teachers who have collaborated to master rigorous instruction and learning at
Belleview. The assessments validate that our students are functioning at high
levels in reading, mathematics, science, and written communication. We must
also acknowledge the efforts of our dedicated parent community for their dili-
gence and support in helping our young people reach their potential. We are
fortunate to have a community that values education and challenges us to ele-
vate the tradition of excellence at Belleview Elementary School even higher.

Cont’d message from the Principal…….
A special thanks to our BAAC-Belleview Accountability and Advisory Committee, comprised of teachers, parents, and
community members who work together examining data for areas of strength and improvement. Our school continues
to show an opportunity for growth in the area of Literacy-specifically in comprehension with sub-content focus areas in
summarization, story elements, and drawing inferences or conclusions about stories. Our staff will continue to build
upon our celebrations and address our areas for improvement.
Belleview Elementary is an incredible place to be. I look forward to the challenges and successes of 2011. Enjoy your
loved ones this holiday season. If travel is in your plans, may it be safe and filled with fun. If you are here in town,
enjoy precious time together in our beautiful Colorado sunshine. I wish you good health and much happiness in the
New Year!
Together in Education,
Amanda Waleski

As part of our Wellness Initiative at Belleview, we are partnering with VSP Vision Care to help serve the more than
one billion people globally who cannot afford or do not have access to eyewear.
VSP’s Eyes of Hope Program boosts awareness about the importance of eye health while providing an opportunity for
the community to support a charitable cause. Once donated glasses are received by VSP, they’re refurbished, cleaned,
and labeled to benefit those in need through world missions.
The Eyes of Hope® eyewear donation program has collected and distributed over 50,000 glasses to those in need around the globe
since the program’s inception in December 2008.
Please donate any pair of glasses your family no longer uses. Put them in the green box in the front lobby area.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! The support of Belleview's families at our annual book fair is always an amazing thing, and this year was no exception. In just a day-and-a-half, Belleview has one of the largest Scholastic book fairs in the country. Because of your generosity, approximately $6000 in books and other media are headed to Belleview's classrooms (through the "Wish List" program) and library.
In addition to the many, many volunteers who so generously gave of their time and muscle for set-up, su-pervision, and break-down, Mona Shriver, Kathy Egan, Liza Felman, and Connie Plumleigh are worthy of gi-gantic accolades for the hours and hours and hours they devoted to making our book fair so successful. If you see them, please thank them for going "above and beyond" in their dedication to excellence.
See you next year. And thanks, again, to our wonderful Belleview community! ---- Dory McFail

about the Belleview community. ANY PARENT IS WELCOME – NEW OR EXPERIENCED. Maybe you want to
meet more parents and your child has been at Belleview for several years or maybe you think you have some-
thing to offer newcomers? We hope you’ll join us! Look for details in the 1-16-10 “this week at Belleview.” This

CCSD ADOPTS NEW ACCREDITATION SYSTEM
One hundred percent of the schools in the Cherry Creek School District are in the top two plan categories of the new school perfor-
mance framework recently developed by the Colorado Department of Education. None of the district’s schools are in the bottom
two categories.
Cherry Creek’s new system uses the state’s School Performance Framework (SPF) as the basis for assigning schools to accredita-
tion categories. The Colorado Department of Education (CDE) developed the School Performance Framework, also in response to
Senate Bill 163. The law identifies four indicators which must be included in the SPF:
Achievement (percent of students scoring proficient or advanced on CSAP tests)
Growth (how much growth students displayed on CSAP from last year)
Growth Gaps (achievement differentiated by race, free and reduced lunch, special education and English language proficiency).
College and Workforce Readiness (ACT scores, graduation rate and dropout rate)
The State Board of Education, in conjunction with CDE, established state-wide performance targets for each indicator.
Under the SPF accreditation system there are four accreditation categories for schools. They are:
Accredited with Performance Plan – meeting or exceeding state performance targets
Accredited with Improvement Plan – approaching or meeting state performance targets
Accredited with Priority Improvement Plan – not meeting state targets, requires state supervision and rapid improvement
Accredited with Turnaround Plan – school performance is well below state targets and state intervention is required
Ninety-four percent of Cherry Creek schools fell in the highest plan category (Performance Plan) compared to 62% of schools
statewide. Six percent of Cherry Creek schools were in the second highest group (Improvement Plan) compared to 21% of schools
statewide.
School districts may adopt the School Performance Framework for accrediting the district overall, and may choose their own labels
for accrediting schools. The Cherry Creek School District has decided to use the state’s categories for accrediting each of its schools
to create a consistent system.
―This is strong evidence that the Cherry Creek School District is a high-performing district that prepares students for success in
higher education and the workforce,‖ said Board of Education President Aagje Barber. ―We are proud of our academic excellence
and our commitment to closing the achievement gap.‖
Belleview Elementary is accredited with Distinction. If you have questions about Belleview’s accreditation status, please call
Amanda Waleski at 720-554-3100. For more information about the School Performance Framework system, visit SchoolView.org
or call the Office of Performance Improvement at 720-554-4241.

Creating Family Connections through Traditions, Rituals & Celebrations
Look at a strong family and you will likely find one with strong family traditions, rituals and cele-
brations. Families that have these tend to be more committed to each other and have a sense of
connectedness and love that strengthens family closeness. Start creating opportunities for
your family to have good times while establishing great memories and connections.
Our guest speaker is Linda Leigh. Linda is one of our retired PIN board members and comes
highly qualified to speak on this topic. Linda began fostering and nurturing her own family tradi-
tions along with her husband, Dave, and their three children thirty years ago and the process
still continues today! For the past 20 years Linda has helped engaged couples identify and combine
their own family traditions through her work with The Engagement Counseling Ministries. She is
currently a Marriage Coordinator for Our Lady of Loreto Parish.
Plan ahead to take a little time out of your day or take a few hours off of work and come to con-
nect with other parents, be informed by local and national speakers, and get empowered to take
a proactive approach to parenting. All parents, school administrators and community members
are welcome and encouraged to attend Parent Information Network (PIN) presentations.
Presentations are held the first Tuesday of each month from 9:15 am to 11:15 am at the Stu-
dent Achievement Resource Center (SARC). Come at 9:00 for coffee. SARC is located on Bri-
arwood Avenue, south of Arapahoe between Potomac and Jordan Roads (address: 14188 Briar-
wood Avenue, Centennial, 80112). For further information see www.PINccsd.org.

CCSD Graduates Student Panel: Handling Multiple Activities
Back by popular demand. We have a student panel in January ready to share their experiences
and answer your questions. Our panel of current High Schoolers and graduates will share their
thoughts and experiences on the issues of handling multiple activities.
Last year this great panel of students answered a lot of questions concerning how one juggles
multiple activities. Is it possible to play multiple sports? How do these multiple activities inter-
fere with school work or sleep? Can you be in theatre and play sports? How did they keep their
grades up?
Be enlightened; learn about the challenges and the possibilities. Have your questions an-
swered.
Plan ahead to take a little time out of your day or take a few hours off of work and come to con-
nect with other parents, be informed by local and national speakers, and get empowered to take
a proactive approach to parenting. All parents, school administrators and community members
