Highlights•In READING, EVERY elementary school had 81 percent or more students scoring proficient or advanced. There were 29 schools with more than 90 percent of students scoring proficient or advanced.
•In MATHEMATICS, EVERY elementary school had more than 77 percent of students scoring proficient or advanced. There were 25 schools with more than 90 percent of students scoring proficient or advanced.

Highlights•In READING, EVERY middle school had 80 percent or more students scoring proficient or advanced. There were 11 schools with more than 90 percent of students scoring proficient or advanced.
•In MATHEMATICS, EVERY middle school had more than 73 percent of student scoring proficient or advanced. There were 10 schools with more than 90 percent of students scoring proficient or advanced.

Educator Evaluations• Changes will come beginning in school year 2012-2013.
• Student growth will be a significant component of teacher and principal evaluations.
• The new system will be piloted in 7 school systems (not HCPSS) from January 2011 -June 2012.
Changes to Teacher Tenure
• Teachers do not gain tenure until after their 3rd year, instead of their 2nd year.
• The “3rd year probationary” option has been repealed
• Teachers who transfer in from a system in which they had tenure and a satisfactory final evaluation serve a 1 year probationary period.
We know that from the moment students enter school, the most important factor in their success is the teacher standing at
the front of the classroom.
