which stipulate that dogs must be entered and exhibited in a breed class before exhibiting in an Any Variety Class/Stakes Class and that only unbeaten dogs are eligible to compete in the group or best in show competitions are suspended.

Where a Best Puppy in Show competition is scheduled the Best Puppy in Show is a puppy which has competed and is unbeaten by any other puppy exhibited at the same show. A puppy is a dog of six and not exceeding twelve calendar months of age on the first day of the Show. Where the Best of Breed, Best in Group or Best in Show is a puppy it should automatically be awarded Best Puppy in Breed, Best in Group and Best Puppy in Show respectively. Consequently, selection of Best Puppy in Breed, Best Puppy in Group and Best Puppy in Show must follow the selection of Best of Breed and Best in Show respectively.

a. Championship Shows Judged on the Group System: 1) Best Puppy in Breed: A Best Puppy must be declared in each breed from puppies entered in the breed classes. 2) Best Puppy in Group: From 1st January 2017, and for a period of one year the Kennel Club Show Regulations which

stipulate that dogs must be entered and exhibited in a breed class before exhibiting in an Any Variety Class/Stakes Class and that only unbeaten dogs are eligible to compete in the group or best in show competitions are suspended.

A puppy beaten in competition for Best Puppy in Group or Best Puppy in Show may subsequently be exhibited in all competition for which it was previously eligible. The dog declared Best Puppy in Show, however, must not compete in any subsequent competition. Puppies may be withdrawn from Any Variety Classes when judged before Breed Classes.

c. Proviso: For the purpose of this Regulation, dogs beaten in competition for Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, Progeny, Brace and Team or a Special Award confined to one breed will not be considered to be a beaten dog.

a. Shows Judged on the Group System: (Definition; Shows judged on the Group System includes classes for breeds within more than one Group, as defined in Kennel Club Regulation B(A); and requires a judge to declare a Best of each Group after which the exhibits so declared will compete for the award of Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show.)

1) Best of Breed: Where a breed is separately classified a Best of Breed may be declared but only from those dogs which have received a first prize in a breed class at the show. Where separate classes are provided for each sex of a breed a Best of each Sex must be declared.

NOTE: The Best of Breed/Best Any Variety Not Separately Classified award relevant to a Category 3 Breed will not be confirmed until the dog has passed an examination by the General and Group Championship Show Veterinary Surgeon.

2) Best of Group: From 1st January 2017, and for a period of one year the Kennel Club Show Regulations which stipulate that dogs must be entered and exhibited in a breed class before exhibiting in an Any Variety Class/Stakes Class and that only unbeaten dogs are eligible to compete in the group or best in show competitions are suspended.

Best of Group and subsequent Group placings must be selected from:- a) The Best of Breed winners in each group provided that they are unbeaten winning dogs. b) The best unbeaten winning dog from the Any Variety Not Separately Classified classes in each group or on each day. NOTE: The dog declared Best of Breed/Best Any Variety Not Separately Classified from a breed designated by

The dogs declared Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show however, must not compete in any subsequent competition. Dogs may be withdrawn from Any Variety Classes when judged before Breed Classes.

c. Proviso: For the purposes of this Regulation, dogs beaten in competition for Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, Progeny, Brace and Team or a Special Award confined to a single breed, will not be considered to be beaten dogs.

13. Exhibits will not be admitted to Best in Show competition after a period of ten minutes has elapsed since the announcement that exhibits are required for judging, unless they have been unavoidably delayed by previous judging not being completed on time, and then only with the special permission of the Show Management.

14. Exhibitors must not pick up dogs by their tails and leads when lifting them. This is not acceptable. Exhibitors should note that such practice would constitute harsh handling and reports of such practice will be referred to the Committee under Kennel Club Show Regulation F11.

15. It is not acceptable to handle a dog in a manner which causes its feet not to touch the ground when on the move. Exhibitors should note that such practices could constitute harsh handling and reports of such practice will be referred to the Committee under Kennel Club Show Regulation F11.

16. All exhibitors must be familiar with Kennel Club Regulation F (Annex B) - Regulations for the Preparation of Dogs for Exhibition.

17. All dogs resident outside of the UK must be issued with a Kennel Club Authority to Compete number before entry to the show/event can be made. All overseas entries without an Authority to Compete number will be returned to the exhibitor/competitor.

18. Dogs in Vehicles on Hot Days. Your dog is vulnerable and at risk during hot weather and the Kennel Club offers the following guidance to help guide you through the do’s and don’ts travelling to and whilst at KC licensed events.

• When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is on a busy holiday route, and leave earlier to avoid increased time in traffic jams.

• If your vehicle is not air-conditioned seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good idea at all.• The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible, and plenty of stops should be taken, with lots of water available to

drink.• Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free flowing air around the dog.

8

• When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle.• Keep the dog in the shade - take your own shade for example a large umbrella and always have plenty of water available to

drink so your dog stays well hydrated.• Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for extended lengths of time.

Remember, if you feel hot your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated, and this could lead to dire results. Please look after your dog’s welfare. WARNING: IF YOUR DOG IS FOUND TO BE AT RISK FORCIBLE ENTRY TO YOUR VEHICLE MAY BE NECESSARY WITHOUT LIABILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED. Anyone whose dog is entered at a Kennel Club licensed event should take all reasonable steps to ensure the needs of their dog(s) are met, and should not put a dog’s health and welfare at risk by any action, default, omission or otherwise. Breach of Kennel Club Regulations in this respect may be referred to the General Committee for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Rules and Regulations. Exhibitors/Competitors are reminded that show societies have the right under Kennel Club Regulation to refuse any entry.

19. Not for Competition entries will be accepted. Details of each dog so entered must be recorded on the entry form and must be Kennel Club registered. NO SPECTATOR DOGS ARE PERMITTED AT THIS SHOW.

20. No modifications will be made to this Schedule except by permission of the General Committee of the Kennel Club, which will be followed by advertisement in the Canine Press wherever possible.

21. Power to Refuse Entries. The Committee reserve to themselves the right to refuse any entries that they may think fit to exclude on reasonable grounds.

22. Safety of Dogs. The Committee will be most anxious for the care and safety of the dogs sent for exhibition, or any other property entrusted to them; but it must be distinctly understood by exhibitors and all other persons that the Committee will not be responsible for the loss, detention of, or damage to any dog, or other property, whether arising from accident, or other cause whatever, or from any act or omission of themselves, their officers, agents, servants or others, or the damage done by the exhibits to any person or property.

23. Should any question arise not provided for by these regulations or by the Kennel Club Rules and Show Regulations, the decision of the Show Committee theron shall be final, subject only to appeal to the Kennel Club. All complaints or enquiries must be made in writing and left at the Secretary's office.

24. Every exhibitor making an entry or entries at or for this Show shall be deemed to have agreed to abide by the Kennel Club Rules and Show Regulations and by these Regulations, and it is on this understanding only that entries are received. Special conditions as to terms of entry and any alteration or condition imposed by an exhibitor, other than those printed in the Schedule cannot be accepted, any such alteration would render the entry void.

25. The owner, exhibitor, handler or other person in charge of a dog at Kennel Club licensed events must at all times ensure that the dog is kept under proper control whilst at the licensed venue, including its environs, car and caravan parks and approaches. This Regulation applies before (at any time during the set up period at the venue), during the event and afterwards (at any time during the breakdown of the event).

26. PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEO RECORDING: The Organisers would like to bring the regulation on photography and film-ing to the attention of exhibitors, trade stands, press and visitors. It is a condition of all those attending the event that no filming or other form of recording may be taken or made at the venue without express written permission of the organisers. The taking of photographs in the show venue for sale or reward is strictly prohibited except with the written permission of the Organisers. Press accredited photographers are provided with permission to take photographs ONLY for use in newspapers, magazines and internet sites – this is for news purposes only. There is no objection to the general public taking photographs of general views of the show, provided that these are for private use. Specific dogs may be photographed only with the approval of the exhibitor. No photography or filming is permitted in breed judging rings whilst judging is actually taking place. However, judges may allow it to happen at the end of classes or after the Challenge Certificate is awarded. Filming and flash photography is allowed from outside the rings at all times unless the operation of the camera is actually affecting exhibits. However, if a powerful flash unit is used or it is clear that exhibits are being affected, a ring steward or the judge is empowered to stop the person concerned.

9

Note to Exhibitors and Spectators: “Exhibitors and Spectators are reminded that just as Belfast Dog Show Society has a responsibility to ensure the health and safety of all those attending their event. All those present have a duty and responsibility for their own safety. They are therefore expected to take the greatest care to avoid all uneven surfaces, guy ropes, and other hazards, which are inevitable and integral element of a dog show. Those bringing and using portable items of equipment such as folding chairs, trolleys, cages, and grooming tables also have a responsibility to ensure that their tools, equipment and collapsible furniture is used and erected safely and does not constitute a hazard to others. Exhibitors are also reminded that they should wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the prevailing conditions on the site. Exhibitors show at their own risk if conditions are not ideal.” Showsurance 2017

IMPORTANT INFORMATIONREGARDING IDENTIFICATION OF DOGS

It is a Kennel Club requirement that exhibitors display the exhibit/bench number on their crate, cage or container at all times. This is particularly important when cages etc. are not on benches, and at unbenched shows.

Each exhibitor is responsible for providing their own crate or cage identification and should note that the original exhibit/bench number card, as provided by the show society, must not be used for this purpose.

It is important to be able to contact exhibitors and identify dogs where a dog may be in distress or where the crate might be blocking a gangway.

At benched shows soft crates may only be put on benches if they are the appropriate size for both the dog and the bench, and the crate can be securely attached to the bench.

Both of these points were introduced with the safety of all in mind, but most importantly that of the dog, and to minimise potential incidents and injuries.

YKC MEMBERS' STAKES Only dogs of six (6) calendar months of age and over on the day of competition are eligible for entry into a YKC qualifying stakes class. Dogs must be on the Kennel Club Breed register to compete in a YKC stakes competition. The first placed member only in each dog group at the qualifying show will qualify for Crufts. A rosette will be awarded. If a member is disqualified, the qualification does not roll down to the next placing. All pedigree dogs are eligible to take part provided the dog is registered on the Kennel Club Breed Register. The dog must be registered; a. Solely or jointly in the member’s name or b. In the name of a close member of the family (i.e a group of people related by blood or marriage) and under these circumstances the dog must be resident at the YKC member’s address. No substitute handlers are permitted - the dog must be handled by the registered YKC member. Members are not permitted to allow another individual to show their dog at the qualifier on their behalf if they are not able to attend the class, unless agreed by the YKC Office prior to the show. Members must be aged 6 -24 years (members 6 years and up to, but not including 25th birthday). Please note that membership of the YKC terminates on a members 25th birthday. Therefore if a member is aged 25 years or over by the first day of Crufts they will be unable to compete in any YKC class. Please keep this in mind when entering qualifiers throughout the competing year. In order to enter any YKC competition, you must be a fully paid up member at the time of entry and competition. If you enter a Crufts qualifier and you have not previously paid your membership fee then any award will be forfeited. Therefore it is important to renew and maintain YKC membership as current if you wish to participate in YKC competitions.

YKC MEMBERS' HANDLING CLASSES Only dogs of six (6) calendar months of age and over on the day of competition are eligible for entry into an YKC qualifying class. The FIRST placed handler only in each age group at the qualifying show will qualify for Crufts. A rosette is awarded to the winner. Handling qualifiers run from the 1st January to the 31st December for the following year’s Crufts. If a member is disqualified, the qualification does not roll down to the next placing. Classes for handling are decided by the handler’s age. The classes are divided into three age groups: 6-11 years (6 years and up to, but not including 12th birthday); 12-16 years (12 years and up to, but not including 17th birthday); 17-24 years (17 years and up to, but not including 25th birthday).

ADVISORY NOTICENOT FOR COMPETITION Societies may at their discretion, accept Not for Competition entries. Societies may accept such entries

from breeds of dog not included within the title of the Society and at Shows held over more than one day, such entries may be accepted on any day from any breed.
