products. Raised on a farm near Waldorf, Minnesota, Colleen is an experienced educator with professional experience as a high school teacher, healthcare sales executive and supervisor, specialist and trainer for Healthcare Account Executives. She will conduct a workshop, Today’s Beef, and update the group on the latest research in beef cuts and nutrition.

About The Nebraska Sandhills

The Nebraska Sandhills are a unique area of the world. Native grassland covers nearly 20,000 square miles making the region the largest sand dune in North America. Sand was thought to have been brought into the area originally by water and blown into dunes by wind. Rain and snow brought grassland plants whose strong roots stabilized the soil and kept the dunes frozen in place. This geology makes the area rich for wildlife, water and ranching.

The Ogallala Aquifer, largest in the world, contains one billion acre-feet of groundwater and comes above the surface of many dunes.

The fragile soil is subject to wind erosion and drought can be damaging. Managing the grass and soil in these Sandhills is an art and a science. Ranchers are concerned about the environment—preventing erosion, conserving water and nurturing wildlife.
