Maths: This week we are going to be sharing out objects and looking at odd and even numbers.Make number cards 0-20 and then find all the multiples of 2 (the numbers you say when you count in 2’s). Put all your numbers to a side. You need to collect a group of 20 items from around the house/garden-this could be books, toys, Lego bricks, stones etc. Ask your child:“I have 8_______________. I want to share them into 2 equal groups. Is this possible?”

Can they decide if it is possible? Ask them to provide a reason for their answer.

Activity One:Children to choose a number card, collect the correct number of objects and then share them into two equal groups. Make sure they make a prediction before sharing the items.Work with the children to find out what happens and introduce the term “remainder” as the amount left over after sharing into equal groups.

I need your help to work out if some questions are true or not. You may find it useful to use objects and solve the questions practically first. Record your answers in a full sentence. Try using the words “odd/even numbers” to explain your thinking.
