Highlights of actions taken at the BAC International Rally in Redmond: • Rick Stephens was elected as Vice President of the Western Area, Norm Green is the Vice President of the Eastern Area, and Randy Connell is the Vice President of the Central Area. These vice presidents will have directors to assist them in their BAC administrative duties, with the change that directors will not necessarily be a lead-in to a term as vice president. • The voting members of the BAC Board of Directors (BOD) now consist of the Presi- dent, three Vice Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer, and National Director. The Immediate Past President will act as an advisor to the BOD but will be a non-voting member except to break a tie vote. The Alternate National Director will be a non-voting member unless the National Director is absent. • The following new Nominating Committee members were elected at the Membership/Cor- porate meeting: Barbara Dowden, Garland Land, and Donna Humble. • There are now two new committees in the BAC – the Membership Committee and the Leadership Committee. The Membership Committee shall review all membership records and promotional materials. The focus for the committee will be membership retention, new member recruitment and records related to club membership. The Leadership Committee shall review annually all manuals of the club to maintain club oversight of rules and practices and shall address issues regarding the BAC vision and goals and make recommendation for change to the BOD. • Rally Masters will receive a reimbursement for a rally fee of a hosted rally (non-internation- al and at a maximum reimbursement of $500 and a maximum of 3 rallies per year, when the final rally report is submitted and approved. • The remainder of amendments were administrative in nature and clarified steps to be taken in case of BOD vacancies and changes required by FMCA. As mentioned previously, BAC members may now sponsor owners of Class A, B, and C (gas or diesel) into BAC. This does not open BAC to all types of RVs; it only allows its members to invite owners of the coaches they know will be an asset to our club and enjoy it as much as we do. Also, as I presented in my October President’s email, BAC is implementing a program through Wild Apricot to allow members to register and pay for rallies on-line. This will allow a fair process when signing up for rallies and reduce the workload for both the Rally Master and the Treasurer. More information will be forthcoming on this new endeavor – look for email blasts and information in our Beaver Tales. I think this is the longest article I have written for the Beaver Tales, but there have been numerous actions taking place to ensure a strong, vibrant BAC. Some changes may be chal- lenging for a time, but worthwhile and beneficial to all eventually! Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to seeing you soon with more rallies being scheduled in 2022. Respectfully, Pam Blair, BAC President

Thanks for the Memories

Donna and I want to take this opportunity to thank Beaver Ambassador Club for 13 years of wonderful memories. We got our com-plimentary membership from Beaver Coach Sales when we purchased our second Beaver in 2008. The concept of rallies was explained to us and we politely replied that we are fine on our own since we enjoy each other and aren't really joiners. After much discussion and a lot of persuasion from a BAC member we attended our first rally. It was a 16-coach rally called "shuckin” and “diggin" on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington where it rained all the time. We had a great time dig-ging for clams and shucking oysters. During this rally we formed lifetime friends several of which we have stayed in their driveways as we travelled.

We have now attended 89 rallies hosted by 42 different rally masters. These rally mas-ters are all volunteers. Following our sec-ond rally" Oktoberfest in Leavenworth" on Washington, we were hooked on becoming involved and volunteered to be a Director for Region One. Our rally experiences over the years have included so many things we would have never experienced on our own such as holding a live alligator, visiting the largest Christmas store in the US as well as the largest hardware store. We have visited the Bird Museum which before the rally we thought we were going to see a lot of feathers. We ended up learning that Dr. Bird invented the respirator which saved tens of thousands lives and is so prevalent in our world today. We have also been white water rafting three times as well as attending a live performance of the Sound of Music.

All of these experiences have been made pos-sible by BAC and its wonderful group of vol-unteers. Unfortunately, of that group of 42 that have been rally masters for our 13 years

of experience, only 23 are still active because of all the factors that affect our age group.

We too are going to join that list of inactive BAC members having sold our coach and ending our 16 years of motor homing experi-ence, 13 of those as BAC members includ-ing serving on the board for nine and as BAC President for four years, and rally masters nine times. We ask that current active mem-bers of BAC consider volunteering so these lifetime memories can be shared by future BAC members. These are memories we will cherish forever thanks to BAC and its group of volunteers.

With the recent rallies, we are back on track with our First-Time attendees! How wonderful to welcome so many fun folks to our BAC! Beavers in Goldendale was the first rally for Sam and Vicky Olsen from Puyallup, Washington. Olsens are unique as they own a coach that we have all seen before! They are the 3rd owners of the coach Bill and BJ Sprague owned! Small world! The Great River Road Rally, which Jerry and Sue Leonard took over when Keith passed, was just another incredible rally by Keith Cooper managed by the so capable Leonards. Glenn and Debbie Walling were the First Timers at that rally. They are from Titusville, Florida. Then there was the September to Remember in Redmond…there were nine couples attending for the first time!Mike and Kathy Castro have an’05 Marquis and are from Sebastopol, California. Tom and Colleen Donohue have an ’04 Monterey and are from Belleview, Washington.Dan and Debbie Greffe drive a Tiffin bus and hail from Tempe, Arizona. Bonnie Ireland was a newbie as she missed

the rally for which she and Ken were registered as First Timers. She missed the rally to stay home and care for her mother. Ken and Bonnie have an American Eagle and come from Prescott, Arizona. Jack and Jerre King are from Battle Ground, Washington and drive an Entegra. Bill Orum and Peggy Lusk are from 9 Mile Falls, Washington and drive an ’06 Patriot Thunder. Vince Toscano and Tami Smith have an ’03 Marquis and come from Port Angeles, Washington. Allen and Linda Walker come from Shelton, Washington and have a ’00 Contessa. Don and Anna White drive an ’06 Marquis and come from Titusville, Florida. This is an amaz-ing group of first-time attendees. The willingness to par-ticipate and pitch in (Bill O did not really have to bus those tables!!) and get involved with everything was wonderful!!We look forward to seeing all the recent First Timers from these rallies and past recent rallies in the future!

Big hugs and safe travels!!Vicki and Cindy

First Timers Remember, First Time rally attendees must be BAC members prior to their first BAC rally.

WESTERN

AREA

VP

This is my first Beaver Tales article, so please bear with me! Let me in-troduce myself, my name is Rick Stephens; my wife Laura and I have been members of BAC for fifteen years. We have always loved meeting and making friends at Beaver rallies

We have attended 38 rallies all over the country. As some of you know, I am the new Western Area Vice Presi-dent. I am happy and proud to be of service to the Beaver Ambassador Club (BAC). There are now three areas: Western, Central and East-ern with supportive V.P.s to assist all members, no matter their location.

Having five regions was confusing to some members, because they thought that they could only attend a rally in their region. The truth is any member may attend any BAC rally, anywhere in the country.

Boy!! Did we have a great time at the International Rally in Redmond Oregon. This rally was the handi-work of Ty and Jodie Kelly along with Co-Rally Masters Bill and Donna Kopacz and Doug and Nancy Strand along with the wonderful staff, espe-cially Kristina, from Beaver Coach Sales in Bend, Oregon. They provided excellent entertainment including a very funny comedian and a terrific 70’s rock and roll band called “High Street”. I haven’t danced that much in years!

As far as new rallies for this year we only have one coming up in September 2022. Beavers Rolling to Bodega Bay. A rolling rally af-ter the International rally in Red-mond, OR and traveling to Bodega Bay, CA. Cathi and Mike Stark will be Rally Masters. Details are still being developed with regis-tration not open as of this edition. The Western Area would like to have more rallies. If anyone knows of a fun and interesting location for a rally, please let me know. We can always find a rally master if you are not so inclined. Safe travels and we’ll see you down the road! Rick

SAVE THE DATES

'THE WHOLE NINE YARDS'

American fighter planes in WW2 had machine guns that

were fed by a belt of car-tridges. The average plane

held belts that were 27 feet (9 yards) long. If the pilot used up all his ammo he was said to have given it the whole

nine yards.

'A SHOT OF WHISKEY' In the old west a .45 car-

tridge for a six-gun cost 12 cents, so did a glass of whis-key. If a cowhand was low

on cash he would often give the bartender a cartridge in exchange for a drink. This became known as a "shot"

of whiskey.

'HOT OFF THE PRESS'As the paper goes through the rotary printing press, friction causes it to heat up. There-fore, if you grab the paper right off the press, it's hot.

The expression means to get immediate information.

'BUYING THE FARM'This is synonymous with dy-ing. During WW1 soldiers were given life insurance

policies worth $5,000. This was about the price of an av-erage farm so if you died you

"bought the farm" for your survivors.

'COBWEB'The Old English

word for "spider" was "cob."

How Many Hair Dryers Can I Use on 30 Ampswritten by Bill Sprague (253) 312-1075

RV electricity can be confusing. Unlike our houses, we have different systems and different sources. We have 12 volt batteries, alternators, inverters, generators and campground power poles. We use the words “amps”, “volts” and “watts” to try to figure it out. My purpose is to try to simplify this to a somewhat useful level. For things that plug in to the familiar sockets, our source of power may be the inverter, the generator, the power pole at a campsite or a friend’s garage for “moochdocking”. Each of those has a maximum limit rating. The “small” one is the friend’s 15 amp outlet. Next up is the “medium” 30 amp outlet at a campsite. The ‘big one’ is the 50 amp campsite outlet with four big prongs. Note that “50 Amp Hook Ups” is a false notion. The truth is that it is 100 amps. We call it 50 because, like the 30 amp switch/breaker next to it, the number engraved on it is “50”. Real stick houses usually have 200 while apartments and condos often have the same 100 as used in big motorhomes like Beavers. Let’s stick to “small”, “medium” and “big one”. We can divide what we plug in into two groups. Some things don’t count because they use so little electricity. Examples are phone chargers and laptop chargers. The other group usually creates heat or cold. They include microwaves, space heaters, air conditioners, RV clothes dryers, toasters, hot water heaters and, yes, hair dryers. Important to us, is that it also includes our automatic battery chargers. If you look at the labels all will have a “watts” rating. Without math, that is useless to us as RVers. Instead of using watts or amps, I will declare that all such heating, cooling or charging devices will be called a “unit”. The question then becomes how many “units” can I plug in? When you have the typical “big one” double 50 amp hookup you can plug in 7 units. Since we always have to reserve one unit for the RV battery charger that means you could have 4 granddaughters and 2 grandsons all running their hair dryers at once. You could also run two air conditioners, the microwave, the Splendide, a couple hair dryers and still have a unit left for the battery charger. What happens in an older state park

campground with only a “medium” 30 amp outlet at the post? That is still greater than half of a 50, right? Wrong. Remember that a 50 is doubled to 100. So 30 is less than a third of the power. You only get two “units” on a “medium” 30. By my “rules” the charger is always a unit. And it will be, if the batteries need charging. If you arrive with healthy, fully charged batteries, our smart chargers will draw only a fraction of what they are capable of and can be discounted. You can still use an air conditioner and a microwave. But nothing more. To improve you odds on a “medium” 30 amp supply, there are a few things to do during set up. If you can, switch the fridge to propane and turn off the electric part of the hot water heater. You might also turn off the circuit breakers for what you don’t want to forget like the Splendide or microwave. Depending on your rig, you might also want to turn off the inverter. Can you moochdock on your kids’ “small” garage plug? Yes. But, you are not likely to do well running any ‘units’ other than the battery charger. Typical long cords are too thin to carry much juice. An alternative is to not plug in the motorhome cord and, instead, hook up a common automotive battery charger to the house batteries. Use the inverter to make the coffee or heat dinner in the microwave. During the night the charger will rebuild the battery level. How do we make life easier with limited hook ups. We have generators. It is between the “medium” and “big one”. The typical Beaver has an Onan that can support four “units” at once. (It has two 30 amp breakers). Save one for the battery charger and you have three units left. The best part is that it is easy to use because of an ‘automatic transfer switch’. Press the generator start button and after a minute or two for it to warm up, the transfer switch will change from plug in power to generator power. When you have dry hair, turn off the generator and it will go back to the previous source. In other words, you can go from one unit “small” moochdocking or two unit “medium” 30 amp limits to a four unit capacity! Have fun camping wherever you are plugged in to whatever there is available. Call me if this doesn’t make any sense!

SEPTEMBER TO REMEMBER2021

INTERNATIONAL RALLYRedmond, Oregon

Page 15: Beaver Tales

15

Hello Fellow Beavers,

Welcome to another Beaver Tales edition and report from the Central Area. You may have noticed a few changes in the Beaver Tales, by the time you get to this article. There are now 3 areas not 5 re-gions thus the last sentence Central Area. I have included a map of the new areas below. Remember as a Beaver club mem-ber, you are not limited to rallies only in your area. We are a nationwide club and the areas are for administrative purposes only.

Lonna and I were not able to attend the International rally in Oregon in Septem-ber, due to health issues. I would like to thank Rick Meyer for sitting in on the Board of Director (BOD) meeting for me. There were many changes made at the meetings. You will be able to read about them when the new P&R, Bylaws,

and Rally Handbook get put online. I en-courage you to read them all.

Please check out the rallies in the Central Area. 2022 – Unmasked in the Desert, Quartzsite, Arizona. If you have never been, it is definitely a need to attend at least once in a lifetime as a great expe-rience and laid-back atmosphere in a unique area. Rollin’ to the Smokies also starts in the Central Area of Holbrook, Arizona with many extraordinary stops to explore enroute to the International rally in Sevierville, Tennessee.

I would also like to thank Julie Jackson for volunteering to be a Central Director. If you read in the last Beaver Tales, Cindy Glaser volunteered during the Amana rally as a Central Area Director. If you have any questions about anything club- related, please contact one of the 3 of us, or any board member and we will try to help you.

Dutch Oven Cooking Rally

By Bill Sprague

In 2014, BJ and I joined with Arden ‘Smitty’ Smith and focused a rally on cooking our own dinners. We required everyone to bring a Dutch oven. Some had to buy one. Oth-ers had heirlooms. It turns out to be one of our best rallies as Rally Masters. Most of this article was written for the BT when we had the rally. I’m rewriting as an example of something fun to do at a rally. Dutch oven cooking is an entertaining way of sharing food at a Beaver Potluck. It is surprisingly easy, keeps the heat and mess out of the kitchen and is hard to have leftovers.First, you have to get a Dutch oven. Go to the camping sec-tion at the nearest Walmart Supercenter. On the bottom shelf, below the gas stoves, will be the American made Lodge 12-inch Dutch Oven. It includes a cookbook. The history is entertaining. The world started cooking in heavy iron pots about the time mankind figured out how to make things out of iron. Modern cast iron ovens seem to have started when the Dutch figured out how to cast them in dry sand for a smoother surface in about 1710. An English-man named Darby went to the Netherlands, “borrowed” the technology and improved the quality of the casting sand to make smoother surfaces. He then sold his product through-out Britain and the American Colonies. Paul Revere gets credit for improving the design for the American frontier lifestyle. He changed the lid to improve the lip for holding coals. It is not certain, but he may have added the three legs to hold the pot above coals. Since then, little has changed except, as Lodge became the dominant pro-ducer, they have added a cast iron seasoning process making them ready to use out of the box. (Note that you never use detergent and scouring pads. Wash with plain water, brushes, scrape with wooden spoons and dry well. Think like a pio-neer that didn’t have Dawn.) As a confessed foodie, one of my curiosities as we drive the Beaver to historic sites around the US is how they cooked and ate. In every case, Dutch ovens are involved. They were with Lewis and Clark, hanging from wagons on the Oregon Trail and were in Thomas Jefferson’s kitchen. George Wash-ington’s mother had hers equally divided among heirs in her will. On the Seeking Southern Comfort rally, we were treated to Gumbo cooked in a very old iron pot with a round bottom. Currently, they seem to be called “Gumbo Pots” in Louisi-ana. In South Africa, it is called a “potjie” and, translates to "little pot" in Afrikaans or Dutch. It is said that Africans

adapted from the flat bottom European version. Could it be that the round bottom version came to the American South from Africa with the slaves? Most recently, but I’m not sure when, the use of stan-dard BBQ charcoal briquettes has become the preferred heat source. One reason surprised me. Briquettes are made by compression of waste sawdust! They are the “green and re-cycled” alternative to burning trees in your fire pit or propane in your Weber! Perhaps more important is that briquettes make heat con-trol simple. A formula is used to count the briquettes! Dou-ble the diameter of the Lodge oven, count out the same num-ber of Kingsford Briquettes, get them burning ash white, then put a third under the oven and the rest on the lid. A 12-inch oven needs 24 Kingsford’s with 8 under and 16 on top. The result is that you will be cooking at 325 to 350 degrees just like a casserole put in the oven you once had at home, before you were full timing! Other brands of briquettes, because of size variance, may or may not provide accurate temperature control. What can you cook? Anything you would put in a pot, pan or oven. If you want to fry or brown meat, put all the coals under the pot. When the meat is brown, add the potatoes and other vegetables, put the lid on, move two thirds of the coals to the top and wait around 45 minutes to an hour. Larger chunks of meat, wind and cold may require a few extra bri-quettes. Dutch oven recipes are everywhere just Google it. Fre-quently used to cook for Boy Scouts and low priced meats with plenty of tasty fat are common. It seems that most Bea-ver friends are seeking low fat, vegetable rich dishes. My current favorite is to collect one or two strips of chopped bacon, onion, a variety of root vegetables and low fat, pre-cooked turkey “Italian” sausage. Cook the bacon, brown the onions, put the rest in, cover and wait 50 minutes. Biscuits are too easy. Buy the ones in a bag in the super-market freezer section and bake them. Tell everybody you made them from scratch. They will believe you. If you call, write or email I’ll send a copy of my grand-daughter’s favorite “Mountain Girl Breakfast”. I cook for eight to feed four. Perhaps we Beavers will again meet for a rally and have an entire (mostly low fat) Dutch oven pot luck menu! Phone me if you want to work on “Dutch Oven Two” with me helping. Better yet Dutch oven cook Arden “Smitty” Smith could join us for a 2022 rally!

AREA

VP

Once again, I hope this edition of Beaver Tales finds all our members, their friends, and family members safe and healthy. First, I would like to welcome all our new members. It is our sincere desire that you find your membership full of new adventures and memories, and I encourage you to attend any of our upcoming rallies. This is the first article I’ve written during which I am no longer the Vice President of Region 5 but the Vice President for the Eastern Area. The geographic area for which I am responsible to perform the various administrative and support activities for BAC is significantly larger than the old Region 5 and encompasses the states east of the Mississippi River and those Canadian Provi-dences east of Manitoba. Paul Meehan, the previous Director for Re-gion 5, will continue this role as my Director for the new area of responsibility, as described. I want to sincerely thank Paul for all his help and support during this transition period. I also want to point out that because the new areas for the three Vice Presidents are responsible for are so much larger, they are now allowed to increase their Director support from one to up to three individuals. The primary activity of a Director is to promote and encourage new rallies and other social aspects of the club. I will be contacting members asking if they would help support the club and myself in this new volunteer position. I am especially interested in anyone living in the Great Lakes area and/or in the Northeastern area. Please note that unlike previous Directors, the new position does not suggest or imply that the person must run for a VP or other office, un-less they would like to. If you would like to dis-cuss this volunteer position with me, please feel free to contact me directly or by email. These changes are part of the exciting reorga-nization of BAC, which was recently approved by the membership and Board of Directors (BOD). This was further described in our President’s Oc-tober Newsletter. Among some of the exciting changes to BAC, members will now be able to

vote for all Board members, including all three Vice Presidents. I look forward to the new op-portunities and the challenges which will come with these changes. Many of us were able to attend our latest Inter-national Rally in Redmond OR. This was a tre-mendous success with great entertainment and fun for all attending. Ty and Jodie, along with the co-rally masters and all the staff that contrib-uted by volunteering their time and labor from Beaver Coach Sales (BCS), made this an event to remember. That said, I want to remind you of the upcom-ing International Rally to be held in Sevierville TN beginning May 3, 2022. The rally is pres-ently full but please don’t be discouraged from getting on the wait list. There is a lead in rally to Sevierville titled, Rollin’ to the Smokies hosted by Ken and Ann Sair. This rolling rally starts April 15, one of my favorite days, begins in Hol-brook AZ and ends in Nashville TN. This rally is also presently full but sign up on the waiting list. We have two more rallies in 2022 hosted by Steve and Cindy Glaser, Everything is “Wright” in Dayton, on April 22 to the 25th and Shakers, Horses, & Bourbon Oh My, on April 22 to the 29th. Both of these rallies have availability at this time. I know there are other rallies in the planning stages and hopefully many more to come. Ral-ly registration has also been changed requiring members to register on the BAC web site. This feature, which should make registering more convenient, should be available around Thanks-giving. These are exciting times for BAC. Become in-volved in your club, attend rallies, and volunteer when you can.

Safe travels to all,

Norm

BAC Secretary ReportNancy Strand

[email protected]

Happy Autumn Greetings. Hard to believe that we are already heading into winter. Right now, I am sitting outside in the sun, surrounded by beautiful fall colors. This is my fa-vorite time of the year. Surprise! I am secretary again! Who would have thought that I would be blessed twice with the op-portunity to serve our BAC in this capacity? Thank you to our membership for their vote of confidence. It was so great that we were able to have the fall International Rally in Redmond, Oregon. Ty and Jodie Kelly along with their Co-Rally Masters Bill and Donna Kopacz, Doug and myself worked for 12 months to provide a great rally experience. There were so many hurdles that we had to over-come. Not only did COVID-19 keep us guessing whether we would be able to host this event, but then we had the smoke to deal with from the hor-rible California fires. We were grateful for the 78 coaches that made the journey to the EXPO Center RV Park in Redmond for our throw-back Septem-ber to Remember. I can’t describe how much fun it was to see everyone dressed to the “nines” for Prom Night, culminating in the crowning of Doug and Sarah Till as King and Queen! Once again the BAC demonstrated their generosity during our rau-cous live auction raising $12,000 for the Bend Boys and Girls Club! So many great items were donated for both the silent auctions and live auction, includ-ing the “last” bottles of Forbidden being auctioned off! Thanks to everyone who donated and opened their checkbooks for this great charity event. There was lots of business handled at our Board of Directors' (BOD) meeting in Redmond. I have completed the minutes from both the BOD meet-ing and our annual membership meeting, and the draft of those minutes can be found on our web-site, www.beaveramb.org. I was encouraged by the lively discussions that took place at both meetings. Our membership input is vital to the survival of this club. With the advent of shrinking our BOD from 11 members to 7, communication from our mem-bership will become more important than ever. The BAC BOD realizes that we cannot continue

to operate the club as we have for 38 years and sur-vive. Moving us into the 21st Century of operation creates a feeling of being uncomfortable. The rally registration process is one of those uncomfortable moments for our club. However, with that said, there were some very uncomfortable moments for our rally masters this last spring with the rally regis-tration process that we currently had in place. Reg-istrations were received prior to the mailing of the Beaver Tales (insider trading), registrations were received without a postmark, making it impossible for the rally masters to correctly place people in date mark positions. Our poor volunteer rally mas-ters were being placed in a position of “what do we do now?” With the incoming process, every BAC member will be at the “starting gate” at the same time. The process will move forward in an orderly fashion, and the registration process will be taken off the rally master’s plate. How wonderful will that be! It is important for members to know that the club has put volunteers in place to assist with this new process. If any member has any questions or needs extra help to access the BAC website or to register for one of BAC’s amazing rallies, please contact Jim Edwards (603)289-6113, Mike Rump (989)860-0396, or John Shurtz (307)433-4013. They are here to help anyone who reaches out. I would like to put out into the BAC universe a gentle reminder that we are a club that exists by the work of volunteers. This includes our wonderful rally masters who strive to host an event that hope-fully is enjoyed by all who attend. As attendees of these events, please remember to err on the side of grace and offer praise rather than a complaint. This will go a long way to help promote our members to consider stepping up to be an officer or a rally master. In closing, I want to encourage our club mem-bers to get vaccinated. It is such a small thing to do to protect yourselves and others. It would be a tragedy if our club had to place restrictions on who could attend rallies, so let’s just roll up our sleeves. Doug and I look forward to our next adventure with our Beaver family. Nancy

Hello Beaver friends,

I don’t know about you, but our summer seemed to fly by! Mornings are getting chillier. I am composing this in October in Washington and it’s getting dark so much earlier…I'm missing summer.

I am pleased to report that over the past several months, we have welcomed many new members to our Beaver Ambassador Club. We had 22 new coaches join in July, 23 in August, and 10 in September. At the Beaver International Rally, we had fun inducting 10 First-Timers, plus they got to learn our official Beaver song! Thanks Vicki Warren. This is part of the camaraderie that makes BAC special.

Over the past two months our club has gotten to enjoy the “Crabbin’ Once Again” and the “Beavers at Goldendale” rallies, and of course our fun-filled international “September to Remember” rally in Redmond. Our rally master crew of Doug and Nancy Strand, Jim and Donna Kopacz, and hosts Ty and Jodie Kelly did an outstanding job of keeping us well fed and entertained, plus enjoying local attractions and taking us back to those good old high school days!

One of the biggest highlights of the International rally for me, was my first official board meeting. There were several new issues and proposals to discuss, and decisions to be made. I must admit that prior to accepting this position, I hadn’t exactly reviewed the club’s bylaws or the policies and procedures. These are the backbone of our BAC. During the meeting I was impressed with the efforts of this group’s volunteers and their attention to detail…on matters that most of us don’t worry about very much. Joanne Fadale and her P & R committee should be especially thanked!

A thought that came up from our recent rally…I need to remind myself that when

we welcome new members, we all need to really have an obligation to make them actually feel just that…welcome! Seek them out, strike up a conversation, or invite them to join your table. My husband and I were fortunate to have just 8 coaches at our very first BAC outing and it was such fun getting to know those, folks. But our next rally was a big one, and it was just as easy to feel out in left field. First impressions can be so important, and reaching out to newcomers can go a long way toward making them really enjoy all the aspects of our club.

Happy fall, happy travels…and hope you all have a thankful and a joyous holiday season!

This quarter has seen membership slip somewhat, as Beavers leaving the Forum and BAC have outpaced those joining. That said, the Forum has remained an active discussion vehicle for members to trade information and provide knowledge to other members needing assistance. Examples of this included fixes for Samsung refrigerator malfunctions, leveling system failures, assistance with a break-down caused by a failed injector, advice to a new owner with no manuals on where to find docu-

mentation, and “must know” info coach care. These are but a few of the topics Forum mem-bers regularly address. Join the Forum and tap into the wealth of information about operating and maintaining your coach.

NEW FEATURE: ONLINE RALLY REGISTRATIONS!At the last board meeting in Redmond, the Board of Directors voted to approve online registration and payments for rallies! We are now preparing to move forward with this which will include the following capabilities:1) New rallies will be announced via an email blast to all members. This assures that all members receive rally notifications at the same time. 2) You will be able to register for all new rallies and submit rally payments online - just as most of you already do for your annual dues payments. The registration process is very simple, as it will pull most of your details from your profile3) Immediate email confirmation of your registration.4) Automatic waitlist management: If a rally is full, you can add yourself to the waitlist and automatically be notified when the waitlist clears. Existing rallies that are already posted will not be available for online registration. This online registration will only apply to newly announced rallies. One of the first rallies that will be available for online registration will be for the 2022 International Rally in Redmond. Look for the announcements shortly! In the meantime, please update your profile to include your emergency contact and other rally-related details. This will further simplify rally registration so you won't need to enter the same information for each rally - it will be part of your online profile. To update your profile, go to our homepage and login (https://www.beaveramb.org). Once logged in, click on, “Members Only / Update Profile”, then click on "Edit profile”. Treasurer's Report

This year’s income was, as predicted, in ex-pected range for the year. Differences were dues income from renewals and new members. Loss-es were income from rallies, which are not meant to make money, but history shows than most ral-lies generate a little income which is hard to di-vide between rally attendees, and other income due to a loss of a sponsor. You, as members, can help as we need sponsors from all areas of the country. Our ads are not expensive, but very helpful as most of our sponsors have been rec-ommended by club members and are known for good and knowledgeable service. At the present time our only sponsors are in the North West, in fact all are in Oregon. Surely, we can find some good dealers, repair facilities, and parts stores, painters, mobile mechanics, etc., who would like some good advertising for a very reasonable price. Our ad for a business card size ad is $100 per issue and the next larger ad, about 3” x 4” is $250 per issue. On a good note, the Quartzsite rally purchase of a trailer has been paid in full, and the rally repaid the whole loan a couple of years early. On the expenses side, we didn’t spend as much as forecast. We do plan for losses and a large portion of the loss is the money we fund to our International Rallies. We fund this money to provide good entertainment and other events which could not normally be provided without this money. As a club, we have had better than good fiscal management over the years and have built a good financial base for the club. Previous Boards of Directors, a few years ago, thought we should use some of these funds to better our International Rallies thus the funding for these rallies. You should attend one if you have not been to one yet. It is a chance to meet your of-ficers and other club members while having a good time. I hope to see you at one of these ral-lies in the near future. Our budget for the next fiscal year is in the last column and again projects a loss. The budget has been reviewed and approved by our

Board of Directors. We should be able to main-tain this loss ratio for the next few years and then will have to rethink our policy on funding for our International Rallies, but should be able to operate as a forward moving club for many years. This will be my one and only article as your Treasurer, again, but I appreciate all you have done to help me through this fiscal year. Please help Geri Becker this next year and if you have bank checks paying for your dues, make sure to change the address at the bank when you next get your notice. See you at some rallies!

Roy

Hello Everyone,

As Roy is in the process of passing the baton over to me as treasurer, I can’t tell you how grate-ful I am that he is my mentor! Roy has done a wonderful job, and I know I have big shoes to fill. These are exciting times for BAC, being back “on the road” again with wonderful places to explore and great people to see and have fun! Hope to see you soon!

I want to update everyone on upcoming FMCA events. International Convention “Saguaros and Sunsets” will be held in Tucson AZ on March 23-26, 2022. Also, other conventions scheduled are Lincoln, NE on August 24-27, 2022; Perry, GA March 15-18, 2023; and Gillette, WY August 23-26, 2023. Many special activities are planned, so please consider attending these great events. Visit http://www.fmca.com for more details and registration. FMCA’s International (INTO) Area rally in Lebanon, TN will be held on May 23-28, 2022. Registration is mail-in only and forms are available on-line. The INTO Area rallies are very interesting, and I encourage everyone to attend. I will update if this rally gets canceled. Several FMCA Area rallies have been canceled do to COVID-19 local and/or state regulations prohibiting this type of gathering. There has been some other news from FMCA. The benefits programs that FMCA offers its members is fan-tastic and ever expanding. Please visit the FMCA web-site for updates on these great benefits and be sure to take advantage. One of the recent benefits, I noticed, is travel insurance. The coverage is designed for all types of

travel including air, boat, overseas, and domestic. Check it out and you may save some money… FMCA Bylaws Committee took just over a week to re-view and recommend minor changes to our Bylaws that we submitted for approval. Additionally, BAC member-ship approved these minor corrections at our General Membership meeting in Redmond, OR. This quick turnaround is very impressive and repre-sents how responsive FMCA can be when it counts. The real credit for this work goes to Joanne Fadale, Chairper-son of BAC’s P&R Committee. Her hard work gave our club the ability to incorporate a major reorganization structure, make long overdue corrections, and based on FMCA’s recommendations, make minor corrections in a very short time. All these recent Bylaw changes required several changes to be made to our P&R’s. Again, at the speed of light, Joanne Fadale and her committee hit their com-puter desks to have these changes ready and presented to the Board of Directors (BOD) for their approval at a duly called “Special” meeting during the Redmond Interna-tional Rally. Many members do not realize the effort re-quired to pull this off, but it is monumental.

Safe travels,Karl
