IMPLEMENTATION OF ACTION
The action Beat The Bus was carried out on the 6th o September2013, the aim o our action is to promote alternative modes o transport,
specically to work. Our research indicated that a very large number opeople in the inner city still use motorised transport compared to walk-ing/running/riding despite their close proximity to the city. BEAT THEBUS Is is a kind o kick in the behind to get people thinking about it.
Our race started rom the corner o Evens St and Victoria Road, Rozelle. We had 7 participants (including one person who rode the bus to keep
time). The participants arranged around the bus stop to wait or the 5O1.When it arrived the race began. Immediately the bus was topped at thelights, we thought we had a chance, however, ater the momentary stopat the lights the bus zoomed past us, and our hopes were struck.
The participants pressed on, with many curios glances and attention, the race bibs arousing interest. Two or three ellow pedestrians in-quired about our race. This interest grew as we entered the city, navi-
gating around the hordes o people, participants were queried multipletimes at trac lights as to what they were participating in.
The nish line was the south end o the QVB. The trac was heav-
ily congested with what seemed like hundreds o buses crowding theroads. O the six participant to run, ve o them got a better time thanthe bus(Please reer to video or times). One ell short, but is still a
winner. Although we had our doubts early in the race, the bus was heldup or a large amount o time coming up Bathurst Street, which was asituation described to us at the initial interview stage.

EXPECTATIONS & OUTCOMES OF THE ACTION
The participants were very positive about the action, and we had a widenet o spectators, whom were very interested in our action. When we look back at our initial aims and objectives(to the right), we
believe that we either completely or partially meet all o them.
AIMS & OBJECTIVES
Site Specifc Objectives
-Ease the massive stress on the dangerous Rozelle junction bus stop.
Rozelle area Objectives- Alleviate the heavily congested trac along Victoria Road, Anzac Bridge and
Druitt Street in the City- Promote the use o alternative transport in an area with restricted car inrastruc-
ture (Limited car parking, small roads)
Sydney & State Objectives- Highlight to transport NSW that their bus system in the inner west has ailed, that
an alternative must be created .- To promote alternative modes o transport, specically running and walking.
- Highlight the ailure o many o Sydneys bus stops, exposing them as inadequateand dangerous.
Our main goal was the promotiono alternative transport, and the
minimising o motorised transport, which the benets o are numerous. Our secondary goal was to beat thebus, and to show to people, many
o whom were skeptical about beenable to beat public transport thatthis was possible. Our action proved successul in
both parts. We would have likedmore participants, however, we
choose to implement our actionearly (due to travelling studio) andalthough we elt that we could havegarnered more support with moretime, we were still happy with the
result.

PARTICIPANTS/PARTICIPATION
As stated prior, we were happy with the number o participants, al-though we would have like more people to have participated. In retro-
spect we could have implemented a reward system, crated a simple app,or another type o incentive to lure people.
The participants who took part were very surprised that they beat the
bus, and were dubious prior to the race. it seems that most people takeit or granted that motorised transport is the quickest way to travel. Allo the participants reported that they enjoyed the action and that they
probably would continue racing the bus, trying to beat their time, anincentive.
