Beyourownflyingsaucer!Rescueyourself!TomRobbins,EvenCowgirlsGettheBlues

This is a quote from TomRobbins,

And I believe its apt. For I do believe that many of us are here to do just thatWe want to change. We want cool jobs. We want to make the work is being shown on this stage.

So

2

#rescueyourself

The point being >

RESCUE YOURSELF

Quick side note: could someone tweet that hashtag for me, please?

Itll make sense at the end.

3

Why is this relevant?

For years I was an interactive developer, and of course Flash was on its way out.

30 SECONDS4

Rather than moving to more banners, albeit HTML5, I wanted to Get Physical!

My ambition was to Level Up my skills!

But how do you do that when youre boss is happily charging you out?

START PUMP!5

HOW to learn when its just YOU?

How do you move past blinking LEDs

For me, it was through EventBrite & MeetUps & HACKDAYS

Until that point Id never even seen a real Arduino. Only read about them.

After one evening I was hooked.6

Pretty soon my desk looked like this!

I started playing again. I started finding excuses to build things.

Kids, got any broken toys? Daddyll have them.

1 MINUTE!7

MAKE Something

All this combines to this doctrine:

MAKE SOMETHING8

MAKE Anything

MAKE ANYTHING!

AND SHARE IT!

Here are just a few of those early excuses to create9

CODE-LESSDevelopment

well, almost!

What I started to see in this was that CONNECTING PEOPLE was what I was really interested in.

(BUT these are the days of the Internet of Things.)

So lets make Things that talk to the internet.

The idea can be intimidating, with thoughts of Back End Developers and server configuration.

And WHO has time for that?

2 MINS15

Alm

Luckily there are a services out there that allow an almost code-less solution

In this next case, Im going to show two recent examples:

Pushover cause Im not an iOS Developer) but I needed PUSH notifications.

& Temboo, which does all the heavy lifting for Searching Twitter, among other things.

2 MIN 15 SECONDS (or earlier)16

iMiss You

iMissYou

Desk-bound, I was looking at the photograph of my family one day,

And realised that between missing them and touching the photo was the germ of the idea17

So using a wifi Arduino YUN, Capacitive sensing and Pushover I made this:

18

Remember that #rescueyourself hashtag at the beginning?

Well TEMBOO will even generate ALL your code to search for that 19
