Believe, Achieve, and Succeed! I was able to enjoy some of the Kentucky High School State Tournament this past week. I have tried to go every year for about the last 25 years. I remember seeing Richie Farmer play against Allan Houston in Louisville. Farmer hit something like 11 three pointers but Houston’s Ballard team beat them in the finals. It was an exciting time for Kentucky high school basketball. This year new superstars were born. One of those stars was Madison Central’s Dominique Hawkins. I watched him score 31 points in a game this year. I also listened to him on radio and television interviews. He seemed very well spoken and respectful to the reporters asking him questions. I read an article in the paper where they were talking to students from Madison Central before the championship game. One student told his mother she really hoped they won. He told his mother that, “Dominique is very nice to me. I hope we win because of him.” For all the shots he made in the tournament, the dunks we all saw him throw down, the MVP trophy he took home, and the numerous scholarship offers he is currently getting, there is no greater attribute he could have than to have his classmates say, “he is nice to me.” Nice matters. Tell your kids that every day!
