Additional Sources of FundingNumerous bursaries and scholarships at the school, district, and provincial level are available to students of Rutland Senior Secondary. Students can also receive financial assistance through government student loans. 1. B.C. EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIPS : Scholarships of $5,000 each available to recognize 55 well-rounded B.C. graduates. Each high school can nominate 1 applicant.

Must have at least a "B" in Language Arts 11 final mark Must have "B" average in Grade 11 final course marks for Science 11, Math 11 and Social Studies 11 with no

Must be in graduating year with graduation to occur by August 31 with a Dogwood Diploma Have at least a final mark of "B" in Language Arts 11 and have at least a "B" average in Science 11, SS 11,

5. SECONDARY SCHOOL APPRENTICESHIP SCHOLARSHIP

Students who are eligible for the Secondary School Apprenticeship scholarship ($1,000) will automatically be considered for the award. To be eligible, an Industry Training Authority (ITA)-registered youth apprentice must have:

Been registered in a school district Secondary School Apprenticeship Program prior to graduation Successfully completed SSA 11A, SSA 11B, SSA 12A, and SSA 12B Maintained a C+ average or better on grade 12 numbered courses Reported a total of at least 900 hours to the ITA within six months of graduation

I. CANADA STUDENT LOAN PROGRAMS (C.S.L.P.) This program, offered by the Federal Government and administered by the Provincial Government, offers a repayable loan requiring no payment on principal or interest until six months after the student ceases full time studies.www.canlearn.ca

II. STUDENT AID BC B.C. Student Loans, guaranteed by the Province, offers interest-free assistance to students enrolled in at least 60% of a full course load for credit at post-secondary institutions. The Central Okanagan Bursary and Scholarship Society (COBSS) is a non-profit group of volunteers from the Central Okanagan area who are dedicated to providing financial assistance to our Grade 12 graduates in order that they may further their post-secondary education. A single application gives a student access to a catalogue of over 400 awards, some with no criteria and some with specific criteria.

Must be a Canadian Citizen or Landed Immigrant, living as a permanent resident within the boundaries of School District No. 23 and attending a member school of COBSS (see www.cobss.ca).

Must have applied and plan to attend full-time at a post-secondary institution in September of the year of application. Confirmation of application may be required.

Must have an average of 60% in all Grade 11 and 12 completed courses and interim marks at the time of application.

Must have the potential to grad for the first time in June of the year of application. COBSS award presented this year expire December 1st, 2018. Must understand that your application form and the attached data must be for a full-time

student. If a student fails to enroll at an approved post-secondary institution as a full-time student, any bursary or scholarship may revert to the Central Okanagan Bursary and Scholarship Society to be awarded to a qualified student.

Al Jones Memorial/Oyama Firefighters Bursary

Family member of an active or retired Oyama Firefighter and/or relative of an active Oyama Firefighter.

Alan/Bea Elliot & Family Bursary

Students do not need to apply as all COBSS applicants from the listed schools will be considered for this award. No criteria.

Alex Monty Memorial Football Scholarship

Awarded to an active member of Kelowna Minor Football Association including high school KMFA. Must continue his education in an accredited post secondary institution.

Allan/Karen Manarin Bursary

Awarded to an RSS female student with high financial need entering an engineering program (degree or diploma). If no one meets the criteria, award to an RSS student with high financial need.

Anne McClymont Elementary PAC Bursary

Graduate of Anne McClymont Elementary.

Army, Navy & Air Force Kelowna Unit 376 Bursary

To be awarded to students who are a son, daughter or grandchild of a veteran or a member of Unit 376, preferably RSS student. Student must attend post-secondary institution in BC.

Arts Council of the Central Okanagan (ARTSCO) Award

A student who is talented in the field of Fine Arts. Preference will be given to those who volunteered with ARTSCO or one or more of ARTSCO's member groups. Please explain your involvement with ARTSCO and/or member groups.

Bankhead Elementary PAC Bursary

A student who must have attended Bankhead Elementary.

Barbara Kathleen St. Paul Butler Textbook Bursary

To be used by students wishing to enroll in post secondary education in Academic or Trades schools in Canada.

Beta Sigma Phi/Joyce Adam Memorial Bursary

Male or female student going into a higher education with consideration first being given to a son or daughter or grandchild of a Kelowna Area Beta Sigma Phi Active Member

Beth Patterson Memorial Bursary

A female student with school and/or community service pursuing a career in commerce, real estate or teaching.

Big Brothers & Sisters /Norm Williams Memorial Bursary

Student must have been a former Little Brother or Little Sister. Preference given to a student matched up with a Big Brother/Big Sister through local program in the Okanagan.

Black Mountain Elementary PAC Bursary

A student who attended Black Mountain Elementary for at least three years. Student must attend a post secondary institution in BC.

Bob Ross Literary Award

A high school student who has an interest in English Literature & Journalism, who has demonstrated ability to communicate in English and is interested in continuing studies in this field.
