DISTRICT FOOTBALL/NETBALL Our teams are off to Wonthaggi tomorrow to represent Bass Valley PS in Football and Netball. We wish you good luck for a great day’s play. We will bring you results in next week’s newsletter. ASSEMBLY We have a whole school assembly next Tuesday commencing at 2.50pm. Featuring at this assembly will be PG and PV with a song. We will also have a presentation of prizes by Councillor Geoff Ellis to the four girls, Hailey, Hollie, Savanna and Tiarna who took an active role in the Edge of Us project. LIFE EDUCATION VAN The Life Education Van will visit BVPS again this year. Life Education is an important part of our health curriculum and we would like to see all students participate. Permission forms went home this week and the cost for each student is $5.00. The cost of the Life Education Van incursion has been gener-ously subsidised by the Grantville Community Committee which we are very appreciative of. STAFF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Last Friday when most students were enjoying a sleep in and parents weren’t packing lunches, staff were engaged in a day of Mathematical challenge. Michael Ymer, a Mathematical teaching expert worked with staff to add something to their maths toolboxes. Staff gained a lot from the day and it shows students that no matter our age or stage we never stop learning! Emma Harris Acting Principal

A BIG THANK YOU
We would like to say a very big thank you to
Craig Woolley who offered his services to come in and weld
some leg extensions on to tables for us. This enabled each
classroom to have a standing table which is very handy in a
class situation. Craig also did some repair work to our
chook pen doors which was very much appreciated. Thank
you very much Craig.
We haven’t been able to bring you Student Voice for a couple of weeks but we are including a couple of their items on this page for your information.
Hey guys! It’s the environmental leaders here with a report! This section is about the Sustain-ability Expo the grade 5/6’s went to a few weeks ago, and the other is about Thinking Systematically, which the grade 5/6’s also did. At the Sustainability Expo the 5/6’s sat down and listened to the MC, Will Tait, who was dressed like Willy Wonka. He talked about the environment and sustainability. He also made an acronym for rubbish not in landfill: M.O.O.P, which means, Matter Out Of Place. We then went to workshops based around the environ-ment and sustainability. At the workshops we sorted a pile of rubbish into different categories, watched a slideshow about plastic, and then we went for lunch. After lunch we went to another workshop where there was a man who taught us about different types of energy and about electrons. We then held hands and touched a light thing. And be-cause of the electrons in our body, it made a cir-cuit! Then we went back to the MC and he sang the M.O.O.P song and dismissed us. Now let’s see what we have about Thinking Systematically. On Monday the 14th of May the grade 5/6 students went on the ‘Thinking Systematically’ excursion to the Phillip Island Nature Park Penguin Parade. We met up with some of the staff and learnt about the penguins, how researchers study them, building penguin boxes and some equipment they use as well as some fun activities based around penguins. Each of the grade 5/6 classes have been given a project/task of making short stories based on information of a penguin, this will include short movies or a written story. Here are some thoughts on the excursion, “It was interesting and enjoyable” “It was educational, it improved my knowledge on Penguins” “It was so cool and it was very fun to learn
about penguins”
“I liked building the penguin boxes!”
