COD Computer-Based Training
“Tools for Schools” section on the IFAP home page, click on COD Computer-Based Training.
• COD System Simulations – These simulations explain the COD Web site screens and functionality available
to a school administrator. There are 12 lessons with text to guide a user through each area of the COD Web
site. By entering fictitious data, the user can explore basic navigation and functions of the COD Web site
and practice locating and creating information in a safe environment that includes tips for assistance.
• Direct Loan Reports CBT – This CBT includes several sections that explain the COD reports a school can
use to assist with the administration of and reconciliation process for William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan
(Direct Loan) awards.
• Grant Reports CBT – These two separate CBTs explain the COD reports a school can use to assist with the
administration of and reconciliation process for Federal Pell Grant (Pell Grant) and Teacher Education
Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant awards.
• Direct Loan (DL) Tools Simulation – This simulation demonstrates how to use the DL Tools software to
assist with the reconciliation process for Direct Loan awards. Although the simulation can be used both by
schools that use the EDExpress for Windows software and schools that do not use this software, the
simulation is especially useful for schools that do not use the EDExpress software on a regular basis but
are interested in a Direct Loan reconciliation resource.
• StudentLoans.gov Web Site Simulations – These five separate simulations offer a step-by-step walk
through of the various functions available on the StudentLoans.gov Web site. Three simulations
demonstrate electronically completing a Direct Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN), based on loan type,
and entrance counseling. The other two simulations demonstrate completing a credit check or credit
appeal online and completing an Endorser Addendum online.
• TEACH Grant Web Site Simulations

With COD Release 12.2, implemented on June 28, 2013, COD
was modified to return a reject edit, #201, for incoming Pell
Grant disbursements that cause an award to exceed a student’s
Pell LEU of 600%
• Award years 2012-2013 and forward
• Disbursement Level reject on origination and maintenance submissions
For correcting schools the edit will update submitted disbursements
on awards with a Pell LEU that exceeds 600%
• Award Level Warning edits #177 and #178 remain in effect and were
not modified • W 177 Lifetime Percentage of Eligibility Used is near the lifetime limit Pell A student's Lifetime Eligibility Used is within 450% and 600%. No action
required
• W 178 Lifetime Percentage of Eligibility Used has exceeded the lifetime limit Pell A student's Lifetime Eligibility Used has exceeded 600%. Review the

COD Release 12.2 – Pell Grants
43
To manage any Pell LEU discrepancies, a dispute process has been setup
•Disputes should be utilized for situations where an adjustment would bring the student’s Pell Grant LEU to less than 600%
•Schools should contact the COD Contact Center to initiate the dispute process
•Documentation will be requested to support the dispute case
• If the dispute is approved, FSA will systematically adjust the student’s Pell LEU
COD Release 12.2 – Pell Grants
Dear Colleague Letter 2013-2014 (5/16/2013)
Pell LEU Dispute EA (June 27, 2013)
44
COD Release 12.2 – Pell Grants
Adjustments for
approved Pell LEU
disputes will be
identified and
displayed on the
student’s Pell LEU
History screen
One last thing…The 12.2 changes did not
retroactively “fix” the 12/13 and 13/14
overpayments to students with Pell LEUs greater than
600% schools have already submitted
• The 12.2 changes will only prevent schools from awarding
to students who have exceeded their 600% LEU limit going
forward
Reject edit code 201
• Schools are expected to have in place a process to
proactively identify these overpayments via Warning edit
code 178 and resolve them
