BURNHAM HYDRONICSCAST IRON HEAT DISTRIBUTORS

A HeatingInvestmentThat Lasts aLifetime Burnham’s line of cast iron heatdistributors offers the benefits of hotwater or steam heat together withthe advantages of cast iron construc-tion for a lifetime of durability andtrouble-free performance. Isn’t thatwhat you’re looking for in yourhome?

Radiant Heat BringsSunshine Indoors Imagine a sunny winter day withcalm winds and the temperaturehovering at 32°F. While standing inthe radiant rays of the sun, youdon’t seem to mind the freezingtemperature. As a matter of fact, youfeel comfortable. But, if you walkunder a shaded overhang, you feelreally cold. This simple sun/shade analogyillustrates the radiant heat principleat work. Just as the sun’s rayswarmed you and your surroundingson that winter day, Burnham’s castiron heat distributors will warm you,the floors, walls, and the furniture inyour rooms. At the heart of the heatingsystem is a Burnham boiler, whichgenerates hot water or steam and isthen, circulated through pipes to heatevery room in your home. Becausewater absorbs heat so quickly, it canbe circulated efficiently throughoutyour home, allowing you to accu-rately control the temperature of eachroom. This type of home heating, referred to as hydronic heating, hasproven itself over the years to be themost comfortable and economical

home heating system available. Soit’s not surprising that it is thepreferred heating method of knowl-edgeable builders, architects, engi-neers, and homeowners. Heat and comfort go hand-in-handat Burnham which is why its castiron heat distributors, like theBaseboard, Radiant Radiators, andSlenderized Radiators are such anintegral part of Burnham’s completehome heating offer.

The Advantages ofHydronic Heating The advantages of a well designedproperly maintained hydronic systemare long term comfort and economy. You’ll never experience hot or coldspots, nor will you feel drafts socommon with forced air systems. Nodrafts and no moving air means nocirculation of smoke, odor, pollen ordust from room to room making yourhome cleaner and healthier—which isjust another benefit of the comfort ofhydronic heat. Hydronic systems can be easilyzoned, saving fuel and providingcomfortable tem-peratures in thevarious living areasof your home.Zoning allows thethermostats ofdifferent areas orrooms of your hometo be adjusted to thedesired temperaturefor the use of thatarea. For example, you may want yourfamily room warmfor watching TV, butyou want yourbedrooms cooler for more comfortablesleeping. Putting these two areas ontwo different zones allows thisversatility.

Without question, hydronicheating is cleaner, more versatile, and above all, more comfortable thanalternative heating systems.

The Security of theBurnham Hydronics Name When you select Burnham, you’re buying more than just anappliance. Burnham is dedicated toproviding you with a heating systemthat operates efficiently andeffectively. So, if you’re investigating aheating system for your new home,or if you’re planning to modernizeor expand your present hydronicheating system, choose Burnham.Burnham is the one company youcan rely on for your complete homeheating comfort. Whether you preferhot water or steam heat, oil or gas,Burnham has a boiler designed toheat your home and keep you andyour family comfortable. Add to the efficiency of anyboiler with the Alliance™ family ofindirect water heaters, electroniccontrols, radiant heat pipe and

Dimensions

A BurnhamHydronicsOriginal Baseray is the original cast ironradiant baseboard designed byBurnham with performance anddependability in mind. Its lowprofile, sleek design fits well withany décor, and it can be painted witha high-grade enamel paint tocoordinate with your room’scolor scheme.

Comfortable, Even Heat Although its low profile may bemisleading, Baseray cast ironbaseboard supplies more than fivetimes as much radiant heat as thinmetal fabricated baseboard. Itsdesign allows free airflow over theintegral cast iron fins allowing thebaseboard to emit more radiant heatinto the living space. Also, because of Baseray’sdesign, heat is disbursed in both

horizontal and vertical directions.Installed on exterior walls, Baserayradiators radiate uniform heatthroughout the room, resulting in aless than two-degree temperaturevariation from floor to ceiling andeliminating drafts. Once installed, Baseray is filledwith heated water from top to bottom. The cast iron construction of theBaseray baseboard cools slowly, providing evenly balanced comfortlong after the boiler has shut down.Metal fabricated baseboards hold onlya small volume of water, which resultsin rapid temperature reduction.

Durable Constructionand Quiet Operation Since Burnham’s Baseraybaseboard heat distributors areconstructed in one piece of cast iron, you can rest easy knowing that theywill provide uniform heat year afteryear. They are corrosion resistantand can withstand everyday abuse. They won’t dent, bend, or comeapart, unlike the multi-metal fabri-cated baseboard units. Quiet operation is essential to ahomeowner with a hydronic heatingsystem. Expansion noises—thatannoying pinging sound during thewarm-up and cool down cycle—andair trapped in the system are the twomost common homeowner com-plaints. Baseray baseboard’s one-piececast iron construction virtuallyeliminates expansion noises createdduring the heating and coolingcycles. Different metal expansionrates create the noises prevalentwith other hydronic heatdistributors.

BASERAY ® RATINGS Steam and Hot Water

Use of the 2,000 Lb./Hr. ratings is limited to installations where the flow rate through thebaseboard unit is equal to or greater than 2,000 Lb./Hr. (4GPM).

Where the water flow rate through the Baseray is not known, the ratings at the standard flow rateof 500 Lb./Hr. (1GPM)must be used.

I=B=R Ratings are determined from tests made in accordance with the I=B=R Testing and RatingCode for baseboard type radiation, including an allowance of 15% for heating effect permitted bythe Code.

Maximum allowable working pressure - 30 PSI, water; 15 PSI, steam.Water content - 0.3 gal./lineal foot.

For pressure drop information, see installation manual.

Ratings are based on active length. Active length equals total length.

ASSEMBLY CHARTSBaseray assemblies up to and including 6 lineal ft. are shipped in one piece.Longer assemblies are shipped in two or more pieces or sub-assemblies, none of which exceeds 6 lineal feet.

Note: Available in any length with similar sub-assemblies.Maximum recommended length for steam: 10 Ft.

The second most common noisecomplaint—air gurgling in the systempiping—is less likely to occurbecause of the large water cavitydesign of the Baseray. The largervolume of water promotes easier airelimination with the use of manual orautomatic vents, assuring quiet, comfortable heating.

Burnham’s Baseray baseboard is acontemporary, reliable way to getquiet, warm comfort this winter andfor many winters to come.

Comfort forYour Home orOffice Burnham’s line of modern castiron radiators is suitable for bothresidential and commercial applica-tions. Whether you choose theslenderized or radiant design, theysupply a continuous flow of radiantheat. After the boiler has run a fullcycle, the hot water in the radiatorsections continues to emit heat. Theresult is a cozy room with less than atwo-degree temperature variancefrom floor to ceiling. This radiant heat combined withconvected heat provides a warmcomfortable environment throughoutthe entire room. It shields outsidewalls and windows to stop cold airfrom infiltrating a room practicallyeliminating drafts. Also, withradiators, unlike forced air systems,

the chilling effect of blowing airmoving over your body is elimi-nated.

Made of Durable Cast Iron All Burnham radiators areconstructed of durable cast iron. They won’t dent, bend or comeapart, even after years of service. Infact, Burnham radiators could outlastyour home. The radiator’s cast iron construc-tion ensures extended warmingtime. When the circulator shuts offyou will not have a sensation ofsudden cooling because of thevolume of water inside the radiatorsystem and the ability of cast iron toretain and emit heat. Another benefit of cast ironconstruction is the quiet operation.Expansion noises are virtuallyeliminated, so you get home heatingcomfort that is felt, not heard.

Ideal for Remodeling Burnham radiators can be easilyinstalled one room at a time whenreplacing existing bulky, old-fash-ioned radiators. And best of all, noextensive repiping is required. As you expand your home overthe years, your hydronic heatingsystem can usually be expanded toheat additional rooms. Supplementaryradiators can be added to provideheat for a basement family room, anenclosed porch, or a converted attic.Consult your Burnham Home HeatingTeam contractor to discuss andevaluate your expansion capabilities.

Radiant Radiator Advantages Burnham’s Radiant radiator canbe fully or partially recessed into awall to maximize your living or workspace. The piping is on the inside toallow for a cleaner installation, andthe optional grill can be added tocover all piping and valves. So formaximum heat output in a convenientsize, choose the Radiant radiator.
