Base Transciever Station (BTS)

The BTS is a telecoms infrastructure used to facilitate wireless communication between

subscriber device and telecoms operator network. The subscriber device can be mobile phone,wireless internet devices while the operator network could be a GSM, CDMA or TDMA

 platform.

A tpical BTS comprises of a Transceiver !T"#$ which handles transmission and reception of

si%nals& sendin% and reception of si%nals to or from hi%her network entities, a Combiner which

Combines feeds from several T"#s so that the could be sent out throu%h a sin%le antenna thus

reducin% the number of antennas that need be installed, a 'ower amplifier which aids in si%nalamplification from T"# for transmission throu%h the antenna, a Duple(er which is used for

separatin% sendin% and receivin% si%nals to or from the antenna and an Antenna which is an

e(ternal part of the BTS.

The BTS e)uipment are usuall housed in a shelter which protects the telecoms e)uipment from

e(ternal conditions such as dust, corrosion, rust, theft etc.

The shelter thus comprises of the BTS e)uipments alread mentioned, an air conditioner which

is used to cool the space as a result of the heat %enerated b the e)uipment, a batter bank thatsupplies the e)uipment with electrical power and securit li%hts.
