    I asked Abu Abdullahasws

    about the Rasoolas

    , and the Nabias

    , and the Muhaddith.He

    asws said: The Rasool

as is the one to whom

as come the Angels, and he

    as sees

    them with hisas

eyes, and the information reaches to himas

    from Allahazwj

    Blessed andHigh; and the Nabias

    is the one whoas

    sees in hisas

    dream, as if heas

sees him withhisaseyes; and the Muhaddith is the one whoaswshears the speech of the Angels, and they whisper in his

aswsears, and they imprint in his

    aswsheart.

    .

2 It has been narrated to us by Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin AbuNasr, from Taghlub, from Zarara who said:

    I asked Abu Jafarasws

    about the Statement of Allahazwj

Mighty and Majestic [19:51]and he was a Rasool, a Nabi . I said, What is (the difference between) the Rasool

    as

from the Nabias? Heaswssaid: The Nabiasis the one whoassees in hisasdream andhe

ashears the voice but does not see the Angel; and the Rasool

    assees the Angel

and speaks to him. I said, What is hisasstatus? Heaswssaid: Heashears the voice, but does not see in hisas dream, nor does heas see (whilst awake). Then heaswsrecited [22:52] And We did not send before you any Rasool or a Nabi orMuhaddith.

.Heasws said: The Rasoolas is the one to whomas comes the Angel. He narrates tohim

    asand he speaks to him

asjust like one of you narrates to his companion; and the

    Nabias

    is the one whomas

    he comes in hisas

dream, something like the dream ofIbrahim

as. I said, And what makes him know that, that which he

    ashas seen in his

    as

    dream, is true? Heasws

    said: Allahazwj

    Makes himasws

to know that it is true, and hedescends upon himas, and the Rasool Allahsaww was a Nabias as well as the

Muhaddithasws, heaswshears the voice and sees something.

Heas speaks to him just like one of you speaks to his companion. And the Nabiasdoes not see and an Angel with his

aseyes, but rather the Revelation descends upon

    himas

    , and heas

    sees him in hisas

dream. I said, What makes himas

to know that whatheashas seen in hisasdream, is true. Heaswssaid: AllahazwjShows it to himas until

Jibraeel in front of himas. Heassees him and heasspeaks to him. This is the Rasoolas. And as for the Nabi

    as, he

    assees in his

    asdream, something like what Ibrahim

    assaw,

and something like what the Rasool Allahsaww

saw from the causes of the Prophet-hood before the Revelation, until Jibraeel came to him from Allahazwj with theMessage. The Prophet-hood was gathered for Muhammad

    saww, and the Message

Came to himsaww from Allahazwj. Jibraeel came with it, and hesaww spoke to him, infront of him
