    brethren

    over there They are

    planning

    to go

    again th is year

    when

    the

    weather i s

    warmer and hope

    to

    preach

    in

    places where

    there are not yet

    any Christians.

    All

    of

us those who have been l iv ing and working in the Pua area and those

    of

    us

    who

    have gone

    to

    v i s i t

    have been

    concerned about

    the

    lack

    of

    sp i r i tual

    develop

    ment

    in

the Huey Yang congregat ion near

    Pua.

    During our ten

    years

    of

    residence

    there,

    we

    were able

    to

    see very, very slow, yet

    steady

sp i r i tual growth in most of those

    people,

though t did require constant spiri tual nursing.

    Since our departure

    the

    Huey Yang Christ ians

    have

    adopted a

    bi t t e r

    sp i te fu l

    at t i tude

    toward the missionaries

and consequently have taken a downward

spir i tua l turn. Refusing

    to do

    anything to

    help

    themselves

    or

others , they have allowed thei r v illag e to

    become so slovenly

    in

    appearance that the

    public

    officials have

    fel t i t

necessary to rebuke them. One of

t he le ad in g young men took an unbelieving wife, and tv?o of the women who have received

careful Bible teaching-trhrough~i:rhe~ye aT3~have mai rled

    Buddhist~Trieiil The viTXage has

    suffered

    much

    sickness and death,

    and

    a number

of people have been af f l ic ted with

severe mental disorders which resemble demon

    possess ion .

    During

    a

    recent

    v i s i t

    to

    Chiengmai

    Imogene V,lilliams

    was

    able

    to

    point out

    a

    few

    glimmers in

the deepening spir i tua l shadows at Huey Yang. One man

    whom

    everyone con

sidered sp i r i tual ly weak asked

    Imogene

    to

    help

    his daughter who had become

    almost

completely paralyzed dur ing an i l lness Imogene did what she could with ant ibiot ics

    and

    demonstrating

    exercises

    to give

    the

    gi r l

    She

    also

    prayed for her as

    did

    the

    father

    and other

    Chris t ians The

    g i r l

    made a remarkably

    rapid recovery

    and the fa ther

    gave

    a l l

    glory

    and praise

to God. Also, a number of people who have become indebted

    to

    Imogene

    during

    thei r sicknesses are

    now

making an effor t to work off t he i r

    debts.

    There

    on

    furlough,

    Dorothy asked Garl and

    to

    them.

    Since

    his

    David reports

    Immediately

    upon

    packed into our l i t t l e

drove to the beach a t Prachuap, fa r down

    Being
