In many respects, Barcelona can lay claim to being one of the most architecturally
inspiring cities of the world. In addition to the magnificent contributions of Antoni
Gaudí, this culturally rich and dynamic city and its buildings, avenidas and parks
are a collective reflection of style and function that date back to medieval times.
Discover the evolution of Barcelona’s identity from the winding, mysterious
Gothic streets of the Barri Gòtic (Gothic Quarter) to the signature modernist
architecture to the adaptive-reuse projects in old textile factories. Artistic and
architectural treasures await around every corner. On this immersive expedition,
you will have the opportunity to shop at local markets, interact with experts in
the fields of urban renewal and architecture, enjoy exclusive museum visits and
savor the many flavors that mark this city as a world-class destination.

DAY 2 Gaudí’s Barcelona Awaken your senses with a late-morning excursion to La
Boqueria, one of the most famous markets in the world.
Stroll through the aisles at your own pace, savoring the
colors, flavors and sights. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant
overlooking the Mediterranean that specializes in fresh fish
and paella. This afternoon, participate in a discussion with
your L.A. Times journalist before setting out for a tour of
Gaudí’s Sagrada Familia and a private after-hours visit to
La Pedrera (Casa Milà) when it is closed to the public. Sip a
glass of cava as you look out from the rooftop of this unique
private residence. (B, L)

Mies van der Rohe-designed Pavilion, which was built for the
1929 international exposition and has served as the inspiration
for numerous modernist structures. Explore Pritzker Award-
winner Arata Isozaki’s renovation design for the CaixaForum
and see the Calatrava Tower as well as the Olympic cauldron,
an iconic symbol of the 1992 Olympic games. Your guide

DAY 4 Through the Eyes of Dalí
Meet with your host before venturing out for a private visit and light lunch at the Can Framis Museum, a modernist building that serves as an art center devoted to the promotion of contemporary Catalan painting. This afternoon, accompanied by a local architect, you will focus on the changing face of Barcelona and its sustainability efforts with a visit to 22@Barcelona, an urban renewal project in the formerly industrial district of Poblenou. The 1992 Olympics created its own wave of renewal and revitalization in Barcelona. Stroll through Port Olímpic, the marina built for the sailing competition during the ’92 games. (B, L)
